It was a pleasure speaking with you. As I mentioned, I don't have other information on Diego Flores de la Torre except that he married Teresa Gonzalez de Hermosillo who was born about 1632. Their daughter Juan Flores de la Torre was born about 1656 in Juchipila, Zacatecas and she married Tomas Martin del Campo who was born about 1652 in San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco. Their children were: Cecilia (b:1694 in San Juan de Los Lagos, d: 03 mar 1778) Antonia (b: abt 1684); Clara (b:1690), Maria Magdalena (b:1693), Maria (b:1683), Esteban (b:1678) Josefa born in 1692. I hope this information is helpful

Hi Daniel:

I am really impressed with your expertise! How much time do you spend
researching all of the families you mention? How long have you been
researching?

I would like to take you up on your offer of help.

I am interested in knowing how far back in time you have researched "Juan
Gonzalez de Hermosillo"
What have you found out about him?

Thank you.

Daniel Mendez.

I was wondering if you have any families in your database that are from the following last names. Mora, Camarena, Lopez, or Garcia. I am a descendent of Miguel Mora of La Barca, Jalisco born in 1888 in La Barca. His mother was Adelaida Lopez.

No need to feel sorry about not attending the meeting. About 15 people had

only six of us present. Maybe for the next one we'll have a crowd.

Hola Ronnie.
I didn't have time to stick more names that I had found, but now I will.
We are related threw Cristobal but also his grandparents, Juan Gutirrez de Mendoza and Ana Camacho. Cristobal's father, Salvador Gutierres de Mendoza 1660. The information I found out about his family was, which you probably already have or you can also correct me if I'm mistaken, the parents of Juan were Francisco Gutierres de Mendoza Rubio 1594 y Francisca Hurtado 1599. The parents of Francisco were Francisco Gutierres de Mendoza Rubio y Ana Gonzalez Florida. Francisca's father was Rodrigo Olivares.

I just joined your group and am very interested in the line from Jalos. We share the same ancestors (and I agree that that would be the case for many from Jalos). The children mentioned of Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo and Ana Gonzales Florida included Theresa who married Diego Flores de la Torre. Their daughter Juana married Tomas Martin del Campo. They had 9 children. Their daughter Cecilia married Jose Joaquin Gutierrez... These are my ancestors. I'm very pleased to meet others who have done some serious research in Jalos.

I hope to join you when you meet again. I note that you are meeting today in Wildomar. I am looking forward to the next meeting.

have more in the future, just keep your eyes on this forum for the place and
date.
I have done some research in Jalos, mainly on the "Juan Gonzalez de

Melchor, Theresa's brother.

You can contact me directly if you wish.

Does anyone know the legend of Ana Gonzalez Florida II (La Vieja del

Hi Rick:

You are almost right, but not everyone in Los Altos descended from Juan
Gonzalez de Hermosillio. According to "Jalostotitlan a Traves de Los
Siglos" there were other founding families in Los Altos besides the
Gonzalez de Hermosillo, to mention just a few:

Andres de Estrada Bocanegra y su esposa Luisa Flores de Rubí.
Diego Alonso y su esposa Paula de Torres y su hermano Nicolas Ramirez
Francisco Muñoz de La Barba.
Juan y Blas Becerra.
Diego Gonzalez y Polonia de Torres.
Juan Jimenez de Castro
Bernabe de Olivarez.
Bernabe y Blas Ramirez.
Juan Acevez
Silvestre Camacho y su esposa Teresa de Hermosillo.
and others...all of these just in Jalos.

What is the legend of Ana Gonzalez Florida II? I have never heard of it.

I would like to help you but the following is the only information that I
have:

Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo married to Ana Gonzalez Florida II.
their children: Melchor, Theresa, Maria, and Mariana. I have 1638 for
Mariana's birth date, but no other information on her.
I have not researched the children, except Melchor, from whom I descend in

I wish I could help more. I am sure some other member of NR will come up

Saludos,

Ricardo

Rick my name is Daniel A. Esparza, I recently attended the So. Calif. gathering that was held by John gonzalez, where I learned about a couple of books that are out there and that you migh be able to give me a lead on how and where to get them without going to Mexico. The first one is Retonos de Espana en la Nueva Galica by Mariano Gonzalez Leal; the second one is Sagrada Mitra de Antiguo Obispado de la Nueva Galica by Maria de la Luce Montjano Hilton.

Do you know where I migh be able to find them here in the USA or do you know of anyone who will be attending your meeting in Mexico who would be willing to get them while they are there. Many thanks.

Daniel,
I recently borrowed SANTA MITRA, etc. through the loan system. I got it from UT-PanAm in Edinburgh, Texas, because I live in the area. Not sure what other libraries have it.
Ask your library.

Juanita thank you so much for providing me with info. Rick responded and told me that he can get me a copy of the book and suggested that maybe someone who will attend the conference there in Jalisco can bring the book back and mail it to me from the USA, I agree with that suggestion.

I once knew a co-worker (MSW) who was from Edinbrugh, TX her name was Enelda, but I just can't remember her last name, I remember she was very bright and very active there in her hometown. What a small world. Again, thank you, stay safe, be blessed.

I would be very interested in participating in the Los Altos trip. I travelled there with my husband in 1997. My Rodriguez line is fromTeocaltiche, Jalisco, with some ties to San Juan de Los Lagos, which I visited in 2006.

I met the cronista Mr. Rameriz during the trip and some Rodriguez who are related somehow at the great-great-grandfather line,as all others settled in Needles, Ca in 1917.

Comment

Daniel,
I wonder how much it costs in Mexico. I know it goes for $160.00 here.(USmoney)!
By the way, are you researching the ESPARZA line? My husband was Esparza thru his mother, and there is a family tree book on them at LDS in Harlingen. I never went that route since the couple did not marry but did have a child together.

Ricardo,

Yo voy a viajar a Guadalajara
reunion si me interesa mucho.

No hemos

Tomas Alejandro Villegas – Guadalajara
Jorge Luis Ramirez – Tepatitlán
Ricardo Rodriguez – Valle de Guadalupe
John Gonzalez – Wildomar, California
Gaby Olague – Chicago, Illinois

Ricardo

Dear Rick--

I like your ideas about having various reunions in the
upcoming years.

I have a very good friend named Hugo Moises Orosco
Barba who lives in Capilla de Guadalupe and works in
Guadalajara. I know he would be very interested in
joining with us as he has done genealogy for many
years and has a number of friends who are prime
researchers in Los Altos.

My husband and I were in Jalisco in March and hope to
return again in July or August. Our home base is
Santa Rita, of the municipio of Ayotlan.

Greetings to all.

Sincerely,
Patricia Diane Godinez

Saludos.Jorge Luis Ramírez Gómez.

Hi Sophia:

The "Gonzalez de Hermosillo " originated in a small village called
Hermosilla, just a few miles North of Burgos, Spain. You can Google it and
find information about it.

I like to recommend a book: "Jalostotitlan a Traves de Los Siglos" by Jose
Antonio Gutierrez Gutierrez. This book has a lot of information not only
about the founding families of Jalos, but also about the region known as Los
Altos de Jalisco. You'll find it very useful in your research.

I bought my copy at:

Libros Latinos
301 9th St. Ste. "B"
Redlands, CA. 92374

Since you lived in Spain, let me give you some information about a book:
"Hermosilla, Su Historia y sus Gentes" by Dionisio Cueva.

You might be able to get it if you still have connections in either,
Hermosilla or Madrid. I got it through a friend who lives in Madrid and he
was kind enough to go to Hermosilla to take some pictures and try to do a
little research for me. He sent me a picture of the house where the Gonzalez
used to live. The descendents are no longer in Hermosilla, they moved to
Burgos.
In one of the pictures that he took there was a poster with the announcement
of a book on the history of Hermosilla. I went to the web and found the
Hermosilla web page where I posted a message asking for information on how
to locate Presbitero Dionisio Cueva, the author. It wasn't long before I
had a phone number in Madrid, I asked my friend to call it and he was able
to get in touch with the author. It took a few weeks to get the book
because they were being kept in Hermosilla and I would have to wait until
Dionisio Cuevas went back to get the book. The book is fairly new, it was
published in 2006.

If you do get, it you'll be fascinated by it, the book includes census taken
in 1508, 1512, 1518,,1524, and 1530. The census are very short since very
few people lived there at that time.

You might want to try: WWW.escolopios.es they are the publishers and they
can probably help you to get a hold of Padre Dionisio Cueva or Saturio
Laredo, author and co-author of the book, both of them are from Hermosilla.

Good luck!

Just an opinion, we don't really know because they weren't their but by research and estimation" I could say based on my research in Los Altos that the families we're constantly moving from place to place. I have several families moving everywhere in Los Altos from Lagos to San Juan, Teo., Aguas to Ayo and Jalos. all over. It is interesting that they always moved to a certain location based on what time of the year? Prob it was dryer in Ayo than Jalo im not sure. We could say European civilization was in it's creation form in the mid 1500-1600's so maybe the natives attacked like in Aguas? Well the Hermosillos came from D.F. if im not mistaken before coming to Los Altos and Muñoz came directly from Spain and The Mendozas I believe came from Guadalajara the prob. is not sure which one since there were 2 or 3 Guadalajaras Diego Hurtado de Mendoza came from D.F. to "La Guadalajara" (Cited from Gary Félix site "Genealogy of México" Page on Early Settlers of "La Nueva Galicia" He was son of Rodrigo de Mendoza and Inés de Tapia he married a daughter of a conquistador de Hispanola" He was said to have two daughters and two sons. I believe on of these daughter to be "La Infamosa Isabel de Los Altos"
If this is accurate I have her genealogy going back for centuries. One son was said to go to Michoacán, which could probably explain the Mendoza-de la Mora line. (Cited from Gary Félix site "Genealogy of México" Page on Early Settlers of "La Nueva Galicia")Does anyone know about Rodrigo de Olivares? It's akward in records you dont hear about him and boom he shows up instantly. Did he come from Spain directly to Jalisco? -Daniel

Hola Ronnie, this is what I found.

el rostro, pasando la desdichada el resto de sus días con la cara cubierta;

I have a book somewhere that talks more about it but I'll have to look for
it.

Saludos,

Rick

Hola Sophia,

You can add me as another cousin. I also descend from Francisco Gutierres
de Mendoza Rubio and Ana Gonzalez Florida several times over. One line is
through their daughter Catalina Gutierrez Rubio, another one through their
son Miguel Gutierrez Rubio and a third one through their daughter Ana
Gonzalez Florida (named after her mother and married to Juan Gonzalez de
Hermosillo).

As Ronnie points out, if you are researching in Los Altos we all end up
connecting somehow because of the frequency of consanguinity in the
marriages. Much has been written about this topic by several authors. Some
of the more well known are: "Retonos de Espana en la Nueva Galicia" by Lic.
Jalisco" by Professor Martha Duron Jimenez. The people of los Altos are
often accused of being an elitist group. Professor Duron writes in her

Anyway, if you haven't already read these books I highly recommend them.

Saludos de tu nueva prima,

Maria Cortez

New DNA results for Gutierrez

That's very interesting. Thanks for letting us know.

My nephew was born with the Mongolian blue spot. The only person in our family we believe was ever born that way. Like your haplogroups, his purplish spot at the base of his spine is like a signpost pointing across the Pacific.

That IS interesting!!!!! My sister Patsy, who is the third of us four
girls and is a guera, had the same spot at the base of her spine. My
oldest daughter, Kerin, also had it as a baby. I know we descend from
Moctezuma on my father's mother's side but don't know what sort of
Indian blood my father's father's family had. Marge:)

My family descends from Montezuma as well. So that blue spot might be a recessive gene in our deep, deep, ancient, Atzlan background. A badge of honor:)

I wanted to change my surname to Moctezuma. But my only sister didn't want us to have different surnames, so Alderete it will remain.

They say all Alderetes in Mexico are descended from the vilest conquistador, Julian Alderete. The gachupin who held Cuauhtemoc's feet to the fire. That's probably why Alderete is not as popular a surname in Mexico as elsewhere in Latin America, and Iberia.

My paternal grandparents are both mexican born. He in San Luis Potosi and she in Guadalajara. No one ever believes I have Mexican ancestry.
Even my moms half Portuguese, but I'm tall with light skin and blue eyes.
I had a Y-DNA test done to discover the origin of my Robledo family from San Luis Potosi. My records for them run out about 1800.

My results were a surprising Haplogroup O. I have had this confirmed by two more thorough tests. My family originated in southern Asia. My closest genetic matches are in the Philipines. This completly out of the blue, many family members are amused, some , especially the ones in Mexico, don't beleive it. This explains what doctors called a "birthmark" at the base of my back. It's a mongolian spot! My son also has one.
My daughter was getting her haircut by an Asian lady and she asked my wife if her husband was Asian . She felt my daughters eyes were distinctly Asian..

My further research shows an estimate of 140, 000 people of Chinese, Japanese and Filipino descent arrived in Mexico during the colonial period, mostly by the Manila Galleon routes. There are a few towns in the Acapulco area with long known connections to the Phillipines

Has anyone else seen this result in Mexican ancestry?

Comment

One of my daughters had the black "Mongolian mark" as a child and has eyes
like chinnese, another one develop the mark later on her adolecent years.
I have not done my DNA but I am very curios to do it. I was a blond girl,
light skin that I pass as american, and if I speak they think I am
Eurpoean. No one believes I am mexican either.

Beltran de la Cueva

Hello-

I am researching the family of Beltran de La Cueva, or Beltran or De La
Cueva in the 17th century in Aguascalientes.

I am looking for info on:

Nicolasa Beltran de la Cueva AKA Nicolasa Theresa de la Cueva born abt.

Comments

Comment

Stephanie,

Pedro de la Cueva and Elena Beltran had two children: Juan and Nicolasa
Theresa Beltran de la Cueva. Nicolasa was baptized 2 Nov 1684 at "Parroquia
de la Asunción de las Aguas Calientes". She married Miguel de Alba y
Estrada Bocanegra on August 30, 1707 at the same church where she was
baptized. They had four daughters: Theresa, baptized 11 Nov 1708,
Gertrudis, born 03 Aug 1710 and baptized 25 Aug 1710, Elena born 21 Jun 1712
and baptized 16 Jul 1712 and Catharina, baptized 19 Sep 1715, all baptized
at the Parroquia de la Asunción. Elena de Alba Bocanegra was confirmed
14 Nov 1728. She married Florentino de Jesus Xaime on 12 Feb 1736 in
Aguascalientes. Elena died before 1752, but I don't know the exact date.
I do have some information about Elena's descendants, in case you're
interested.

Juan Beltran de la Cueva married Theresa Macias Valadez on 03 Sep 1709 at
Parroquia de la Asunción. They had at least two children: Maria de la Cueva
and Juan Joseph de la Cueva.

I'm not related to any of these people but have compiled lots of
genealogical
and historical info. for this area. My database consists of more than 8,500
early settlers of Aguascalientes, Zacatecas and Altos de Jalisco. Are you a
descendant of Nicolasa Beltran de la Cueva? Which other lines do you have
in Aguascalientes?

Hope this info. is useful to you.

Welcome, Gabriela,

My father Guadalupe Olague was born in Jerez in 1903. His father was Francisco Olague Felix Tinajero, born in Salitrillo. Francisco's parents were Pedro Olague and Rafaela Felix Tinajero. My father's mother was Gorgonia Garcia; her parents were Ignacio Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez.

I have my trees in the GEDCOM files in this group. Look under Emilie Garcia. I have some DeLaTorres and Munoz in my trees.

I'm glad to help. I'm not from this area but you'll find a lot of the
members are Alteños. Welcome to the group and please move discussions
about genealogy of our area of Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes
to the research@nuestrosranchos.org list. thanks

Anyone here have any Lola Beltran CD's. She has this great song about
Jalisco and I'm not sure its about Los Altos or about Jalisco in general

I've gone ahead and moved this answer to the research list.

Introduction to Nuestros Ranchos.

I stumbled upon this sight while browsing through Yahoo. My family is
from Jalisco, mostly Jamay and La Barca. I lived in Jamay, Jalisco for
seven years from 1983 to 1990 and graduated from the ITESO in
Guadalajara. I ended up marrying a girl from Jamay (Castellanos
Flores). Her ancestors are from Jamay, Zapotlan del Rey and Rincon de
Portezuelo. Her father was Ruben Castellanos Muniz, he was the mayor of
Jamay back in 1978. My mother's brother (David Lopez Ornelas) was the
mayor of Jamay in 1973. My cousin is Esther Jordan (Lopez) and she is
also a member of NR. While in Mexico I had the privilege of
participating in the government at the local and state level. I was
named the regional delegate of the State of Jalisco's cultural, social
en sports institute (CREA). I also held several positions in a state
political party. My father's first cousin, Felix Banuelos Jimenez moved
to Arandas from Jamay and founded Tequila Cazadores, Dulceria la
Vaquita, Liquor de Cafe Kakatua, Tequila Espuelas de Oro and Aguardiente
Gallo Giro. He recently began to produce Tequila Hacienda Vieja. He
was also just recently a state congressman for the state of Jalisco.
Hopefully this connection might help the group in the future if we reach
any road blocks acquiring documents from the government, who knows. As
far as I know, my great grandfather Francisco Gomez Macias was the son
of a Prussian. Unfortunately, he was born out of wedlock and nobody
knew his fathers name.

I am completely new to genealogy research and I am very curious in
finding out more about my ancestors and willing to help anyone that I
can.

Thank you for accepting me as a member.

Daniel Jimenez Lopez

My name is Anita Morales and my research is in Zacatecas, Tepetango and Juanchorrey, Zacatecas Mexico and Distrito Federal Mexico.  My ancestors are as follows:

Maria Gonzalez b: May 24, 1885 in Zacatecas Zac  d: May 11, 1967 in San Antonio Tx.  Her 1st marriage was to Juan Brena.  He was a doctor and they lived in DF Mex until his death about 1917.  Her 2nd marriage was to Pedro Alvarado b:  Feb 23, 1890 in Matehuala SLP Mex d: Feb 18, 1989

She was the daughter of Marcelo Gonzalez b: abt 1857 in Zacatecas, married Aug 27, 1879 to Nestora Rodriguez b: Feb 26, 1864 d: May 09, 1941 in San Antonio Tx

Marcelo was the son of Juan Jose Jesus Gonzalez b: abt Feb 08, 1833 in Tepetango, married March 04, 1851 to Maria de Jesus Banuelos b:  abt 1837 in Rancho de la Macita Zac.

Juan Jose was son of Juan Nepomuceno Gonzalez b:  abt 1794 in Juanchorrey and married Feb 04, 1822 to Maria Vicenta Carlos and secondly to Marcela Carlos on July 16, 1835

Juan Nepomuceno was son of Juan Jose Faustino Gonzalez and Maria Gertrudis Salinas

Juan Jose Faustino was son of Fernando Gonzalez and Barbara Gallegos

This is where I lose my trail.  Oral history from various relatives have raised some interesting question which I will ask of the group in future posting.  For now, does anyone have any info on my ancestors or any suggestions as to where to go next.  Thanks

Thank you, Daniel, for your reply.  Yes, my line ends about 1730 and quite possibly in Jerez as one of my source document shows "San Juan Bautista de Tepetongo ---- de Parroquia de Xerez".  I am not familiar with locations and parishes in that area.  Possibly Joseph Phelipe de Jesus Gonzalaes Gallegos was a brother.  Luck has it, I cannot find my source document showing Juan Jose Faustino Gonzalez, born 23 Feb 1766, father Fernando Gonzalez and mother Barbara Gallegos.  This info is in my notes.  Am I correct in assuming that the info you gave me was from FHC films. Can I find this on FamilySearch.com?  Again, Thanks - Anita

Yes, you can trust me! Here is the film

1761 - 1771 Jérez

Im pretty sure it was included in the previous post. As you may have notice the farther back you get the easier its suppose to be. My guess would be to order marriage years for abt when Fernando and Bárbara should have married. -daniel
