8 Real Coins

I have some significant happenings in my family in 1793 with my GGGG
grandparents Justo Puente and Josefa Sanchez being married in Sombrerete
and also my twin GGG grandfathers both named Jose Tadeo Diaz being born
in Sauz de Los Marquez. So awhile back I went to the local Coin store
and had the guy go to the next coin show and purchase me a 1/2 real very
small silver coin dating 1793 for $30. Unfortunately the date is so worn
that you can just tell that it is 1793. So I have had him hunting for a
better coin from that date but his report to me is that that particular
date is hard to come by BUT there are plenty of excellent condition
coins in the period from 1794-1799 in the 8 Real denomination minted in
Mexico.

I have no financial interest in this just though I'd let folks know that
for between $80-$125 range you can get an 8 Real Coin in good shape in
the 1794-1799 time period minted in Mexico. If you have a local coin
dealer you trust have him/her look into it or let me know and I'll put
you in touch with my coin dealer who says he can get them.

Méjico vs. Mexico

I have noticed that some members of the group spell México with a J, ie. Méjico.

For exmaple in Daniel's message from about a year ago he wrote:

Once you reach Manuel's grandfather who ever he may have been you will connecto to all of us in someway, youll go back so far in your genealogy 1500-1600, and given the right line back to the Kings of Spain and princes of Europe, I connect to royalty thanks to my Spanish, Portuguese and German ancestry. Its a good feeling knowing where you come from but the best is for the perservation for future generations. Since you have alteño ancestors, you're full spanish i suppose, until we can get further possibly italian, portugues, french and others who arrived in Méjico. -Daniel

I was just wondering about the politics/tradition/meaning behind the use of such a spelling and would appreciate any comments.

my beloved braceros

I'm in the "planning" stage of painting a series of my beloved braceros.

I already have several already painted in my mind's eye.

In the 1960s I worked side-by-side with them, listened to their songs of Mexico, sweated as they did, and hurt (as they did) with them.

I know the "meaning of life" because I was one with them.

Calisto Samaniego, Sacerdote

Hello to all!

I just got back from Guadalajara. I was not able to attend the Valle de Guadalupe meeting because my uncle was very ill so I went straight to Guadalajara. Not all was lost. He told me that my GGGG Grandfather, Calisto Samaniego born around 1820, probably in Juchipila, was a priest that left the priesthood to marry/be with Lina Salazar, my GGGG Grandmother. I descend from his son Jesus Samaniego and Cayetana Castaneda. Any idea on how I can get started solving this mystery? I can't find any other info on him/Lina.

Thanks!

I have a full hand of information and still don´t know what to do with it or where to place it because most of all am happy, think first I have to dance. Thank You again.

 Hi everyone,

We have started indexing for the State of Jalisco, starting with Acatlan de Juarez, specifically Los Pozos.  If anyone would like me to look out for names from this location please get back to me.  I can only download 5 badges at a time, as I am sure there will be many others doing Jalisco.

De La Torre

To Linda Romero and Enrique De La Torre

I have uploaded my Excel File for De La Torre research. Please see link below:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/18110

I create these spreadsheets, then link the families together as I go through each film. As you notice I have not done much research on the De La Torre line, so there are many orphan records. In most cases I have a hard copy of the records listed. If you need one, I will scan it to you. These deal mainly with the De La Torre's in Tepatitlan.

Aguascalientes, Sagrario Informacion Matrimonial 1739

I was wondering if anyone who can read Spanish help me out on something?

I am looking at the Informacion Matrimonial films and doing an extraction of my ancestors. I have come across the film 1739 at the Family Search Pilot site and what is listed are not marriages but are list of daughters and their parents....about image 15 starts with Asientos and now I'm at image 43 which appears to list daughters from Lagos. I have never seen anything like this before in all the records I've ever looked at, and it's been too numerous to count.

I hope you can help me solve this mystery.....my research colleague is out of town with no access to the internet.

Thank you

Cortez Alvarado

Ok I need help from the group. Can anyone help me find my grandfather
Antonio Cortez Hernandez....born in Matansas Jalisco the year 1909. His parents were Jose Refugio Cortez and Alejandra Hernandez.

I am also looking for my grandmother Ma Manuela Alvarado Ortiz born in 1913 also in Matansas Jalisco. Her parents were Lorenso Alvarado and Francisca Ortiz.

Antonio Cortez Hernandez was married to Ma Manuela Alvardo Ortiz.

I also have one more question. Can anyone give me advice on how to look for my uncle Eusebio Cortez Alvarado born in Matansas Jalisco. He was my fathers only brother and last I heard he lived in Gonzales Tamaulipas or Manuel Tamaulipas. I just need advice on how I can search for him. I have been looking for him for the past 3 years and have had not luck.

Carlos C. Gutierrez 1902-1959

I am so excited to find this group. Reading the other posts gives me hope. I've run into a dead end at the border for Carlos...

I'm looking for Carlos C. GUTIERREZ from the time he crossed into the USA and earlier. He stated in his naturalization papers (1954) that he immigrated and stayed in the USA continuously from 2 Jul 1926 and crossed at El Paso, Texas "on the El Paso Electric Co." He also stated that he was born 4 Nov 1902 in Union, Jalisco, Mexico.

On the death records for Carlos, it states his parents were Lorenzo GUTIERREZ and Emilia CABILLO.

I would be grateful for suggestions on where to look for Carlos or his parents and family.

Spain and the American Revolution Travel Tour to Spain and . . .

from Judge58@aol.com

Dear TCARA members,

The SAR cordially invites you to participate in our trip to Spain to
honor Spain's assistance during the American Revolutionary War. We're
meeting the King of Spain and conducting a Charter celebration for the
new SAR Society in Spain. We're paying homage to Gen. Bernardo Galvez in
his home town, and at the Malaga Cathedral, where he was successful in
obtaining the money they had saved up to build the south tower of the
cathedral.

Please forward this message to the Bexar County Hispanic Genealogy
Society, the Canary Island Assn, and the Granaderos de Galvez, as I
don't have their respective e-mail addresses.

Details of the trip are as follows:

Please join us for the SAR trip to Spain from May 10 - 20, 2010. Group
airline rates from Washington, DC are available. Stay in outstanding
hotels, and enjoy delicious Spanish food. In Madrid, we are scheduled to
have an audience with King Juan Carlos, who is an SAR member. The tour
includes visits to the Royal Palace, Royal Armory, Army Museum, Navy
Museum, Plaza Mayor, and the incomparable Prado Museum. While in Madrid
we will visit El Escorial, burial site of ancient Spanish Royalty, and
scenic Toledo, where the finest steel swords in the world are made. In
Madrid there will be a reception at the US Embassy, where hopefully we
will visit with the US Ambassador to Spain.

By train and bus we travel to Macharaviaya, the home town of General
Bernardo Galvez for a celebration, followed by a ceremony at the Malaga
Cathedral, where the church donated their fund for the construction of
the South Tower to Gen Galvez. These funds were used for arms and
ammunition to protect the Mississippi River and Gulf Coast from the
British during the Revolutionary War. In Malaga visits are also planned
to Gibralfaro Castle and the Old Quarter.

In Granada we will visit the incomparable Alhambra Palace, where we will
gain insight into the lives of the Moors, who conquered most of Spain
and occupied it for 700 years. On the Costa Del Sol, there will be time
for swimming, shopping, or leisure strolls along the boardwalk. Also
included is a visit to scenic Rhonda. En route we stop to view the
construction of the brig Galveztown.

Consider an extra few days on the post trip extension which will allow
time for visits to historic Gibraltar, and exotic Tangier, Morocco. To
register and insure a place on the tour, send $200.00 per person to
David Eld, Magic Meetings and Incentives, 3901 North Stevens St.,
Alexandria, Virginia, 22133. For additional information contact him at
703-379-8071 or e-mail him at deld@magicglobal.com Final payment due NLT
Feb. 10, 2010.

A $200 deposit per person is required by 9/30/09 for the main trip and
an additional $100 per person for the extension.

We hope that you will join us on this historic event.

Fraternally,

Ed Butler

Compatriots,

Please join us for a wonderful 10 day trip to Spain, May 10-20, 2010. We
will visit the Cathedral in Malaga, where the church members donated the
money for the second tower of the church to Gen Bernardo Galvez, for
guns, ammunition, and supplies to fight the English up the Mississippi
and along the Gulf Coast. There will be time for lounging on the beach
along the Costa Del Sol. Savor the scenic side trips in the south of
Spain to the exotic Alhambra Palace near Granada; enjoy a celebration in
the small home town of Gen. Galvez; delight in the magnificent vista
from Rhonda, historic Gibraltar, and an optional day trip to explore
Tangier, Morocco.

In Madrid tour the Royal Palace and Armory, and hopefully have an
audience with SAR member King Juan Carlos. In Madrid we will visit the
incomparable Prado Museum, see El Cid’s huge sword at the Army Museum
and marvel at the ship models in the Naval Museum. There will be time
for a casual stroll through the magnificent Plaza Major, where you can
savor some tapas. Side trips include visits to historic Toledo and

Are Merced Medina and Merced Macias the same person Calvillo , Ags. 1800's

Calvillo, Aguascalientes church records have me believing that they may be the same person. The names Merced Medina and Merced Macias come up in records naming her as a parent or grandparent. In some records she is called by Medina in another record Macias. I have been unable to clear up the relationship. I only have my suspicions.

Concider these conflicting entries.
Matrimony of Diego Serna and Marcela Lopez , June 11 1829
Diegos parents Juan Manuel Serna and Merced Macias

Diegos' and Marcela childrens entries of Grandparents are as follows

That's great! It's amazing how we find some of our ancestors information.
Good luck and I will keep posting on my findings. I, too, usually stick to
