Nuestros Ranchos Site

There have been a number of members who have recently been "unsubscribed" from the mailing lists or have stopped getting email messages from the list.

One reason we have identified for this is the server being used to send out the listserv messages is a dedicated listserv server that hosts mailing lists for a number of different organizations, not just Nuestros Ranchos. All such messages come stamped with the server name and IP and the server has been put on a "black list" of anti-spam filters.

Therefore messages from the list are being blocked and bounced by members' email servers and in some cases our server detects that the address is not accepting messages and unsubscribes it from the mailing list(s).

Many email servers have a way of adding specific email addresses or domains to a "safe list" of addresses which do not go through the anti-spam filtering process. If you are having trouble, this would be one way to try to resolve it, by putting our server IP and/or domain name on your email provider's "safe list."

The Nuestros Ranchos mailing list server IP is 66.33.206.23 and the domain name from which Nuestros Ranchos messages come is is lists.nuestrosranchos.org. If you need to add specific email addresses, they would be research@lists.nuestrosranchos.org, general@lists.nuestrosranchos.org and announcelists.nuestrosranchos.org.

Ha habido un número de miembros que recientemente han sido "desuscritos" de las listas de correo-e o han dejado de recibir de correos electrónicos de la lista.

I apologize for adding to the immense quantity of messages on this site. I prefer communicating with only those to whom my research is relevant, but I don't have your individual e-mail address.
I viewed your folder on the Nuestros Ranchos website, but only saw a two generation listing of Duran. Is this all you have posted to date? I would very much like to compare my Aguayo research -- the descendents of Antonio Aguayo, ca. 1542 to 1672, from around Purificacion and Nochistlan -- with whatever you might know. I have also connected my immediate Aguayo ancestors going back from my father to his GGG Grandfather in Aguascalientes. This takes me back to ca. 1780.

In the February 2007 issue of the Journal of Marriage and Family authors Natalia Sarkisian, Mariana Gerena, Naomi Gerstel write, "Feminist scholars who first developed the intersectional framework pointed out the interlocking nature of race, gender, and class inequalities. Their primary concern was bringing race/ethnicity and class to the center of gender studies. We argue that it is equally important to introduce gender and class into race/ethnicity studies. In this article, we demonstrate the importance of such an intersectional approach to race/ ethnicity by focusing on Mexican American extended families in the United States and comparing them to those of Euro Americans. The article addresses a contemporary debate concerning racial/ethnic differences in extended family life..."

Me alegro de que seas español pues así no tendrás ningún problema porque me dirija a ti en tu lengua materna, esta bella lengua española. En principio, tienes mucha razón: en México existe racismo. No a nivel oficial, en ningún documento encontrarás que tengas que anotar la “raza” de nadie, pero sí como un pesado atavismo que nos dejó el eurocentrismo desde la época colonial. Un atavismo que afecta muchas relaciones informales y no pocas formales, aunque nadie estaría dispuesto a confesarlo. Si tú no conoces el país y ves la televisión mexicana, por ejemplo, pensarás que en México hay un elevado porcentaje de la población con ojos claros. No es un problema exclusivamente mexicano, lo verás en general en Latinoamérica. Los comerciales de la televisión peruana, como otro ejemplo, te harían pensar que la población del Perú es muy similar a la de Dinamarca. Asimismo en Colombia, donde hay un elevado porcentaje de población negra. Si tú ves un comercial de la televisión colombiana no habrá un negro pero ni pasando por allá lejos. En cambio, como paradoja, observa a los jugadores de la Selección Colombiana de Fútbol.

En México es común que en una misma familia existan miembros “güeritos” y “prietitos”. Por un amigo de la época estudiantil, yo conocí a una familia chiapaneca, de muy buena posición económica pues poseía una finca cafetalera en los Altos de Chiapas. De lo seis hermanos, dos tenían muchos problemas psicológicos y habían caído en el alcoholismo como resultado de la sobreprotección que la madre había ejercido sobre ellos a causa de que eran morenos. Es decir que los veía como si hubieran nacido con algún impedimento físico o algún tipo de invalidez.

México es un país esencialmente mestizo, en sus raíces étnicas y en sus raíces culturales. No podría entenderse el México actual solamente a través de su herencia indígena, como no podría entenderse exclusivamente a través de su herencia española. Las civilizaciones indígenas que se desarrollaron en el territorio nacional, en su momento no eran México. No hay duda que los españoles trajeron consigo una parte muy importante sin la cual no habría sido posible el México que se desarrolló a partir de ese choque cultural que aún hoy en día sigue sintiéndose y estremeciendo los cimientos de nuestra sociedad.
Sin embargo, ya que hablamos de hoy en día, en esta actualidad de principios del siglo XXI el conocimiento del genoma humano permite asegurar que no existen razas humanas, esas diferencias, a nuestros ojos tan notables, que distinguen a los miembros de unos y otros grupos étnicos resultan, desde el punto de vista biológico, por completo insignificantes. Es más, a partir del ADN humano se está haciendo posible trazar la historia de la humanidad hasta encontrar un origen en una Eva y un Adán que vivieron en el África hace unos sesenta mil años. Estarás tú de acuerdo conmigo en que la piel es nuestro vestido natural, pues bien la importancia de la diferencia que hay entre una persona de piel clara y otra de piel oscura es equiparable a la importancia de la diferencia que hay entre una persona que lleva un vestido claro y una que lleva un vestido oscuro. Aquí el único problema es que la piel no se puede quitar y poner. Pero, también, como en la ropa, hay otros significados subyacentes. Existen, por ejemplo, uniformes amigos y uniformes enemigos.
Demos marcha atrás en el tiempo y situémonos en una época remota. Vayamos hasta fines del paleolítico o principios del neolítico. Para esta época la especie humana en general ha dejado de ser víctima propicia de los grandes predadores. Esa es la clave: otro color de piel, u otra lengua, o la misma lengua hablada con acento y giros diferentes, u otra religión y otras costumbres, etcétera.

La historia de la humanidad, ya en calidad de tal, se escribe en decenas de miles de años y solamente en los últimos quinientos años las sociedades humanas iniciaron la tendencia a convertirse en una sola sociedad humana, con un intercambio y una interacción crecientes entre grupos humanos que todavía representan una vasta diversidad. Se explica por tanto que en esta temprana etapa de la integración, sobrevivan esos sentimientos instintivos que llevan a desconfiar y temer al diferente, al extranjero, al que tiene otros rasgos, en fin, no obstante que el diferente sea nuestro vecino de junto o nuestro conciudadano.

Lo que yo sugiero es que vayas al Centro de La Historia Familiar mas cercana. Alli puedes pedir el microfilm de los matrimonios en Encarnacion para los anyos 1871-1900. Recuerda que no todos los microfilmes tienen un indice correspondiente. Luego puedes leer el micro y estudiar el informe. Tardan mucho los filmes para llegar pero vale la pena. Especialmente en tu situacion.

En cuanto al apellido Martinez- se usan abreviaturas en los manuscritos de partidas. Martin. es una de esas abrreviaturas. La 's' en Fraustos puede ser el resultado de una equivocacion. Que tengas muy buena suerte en tu busqueda. Si crees que pueda yo ayduarte, escribe.

Joseph, I have both, Gutierrez and Dias in my mother's side of the family; however, they are from Ocotlan and surrounding areas. I was just curious if San Juan de Los Lagos was close to Guadalajara, if so we could have a connection at some point.

I have not received any email from Nuestros Ranchos since last weekend. As
far as I know, nothing in my system has changed. I've been getting other
email as usual. However, it is possible that a disruption in service from
NetAddress may have caused a few emails to bounce, but I am not aware of any
problems they may have had. I went online to check the website this morning
and answered a question from one of the members, but even that message did
not make it back to my email address. For some unknown reason, the system
decided to lock me out. I would appreciate your looking into this matter.

I wanted to share the fact that I was recently contacted by a priest in the Peoria, Illinois diocese for some help confirming the relationship of some men in the diocese to Saint Cristobal Magallanes Jara. He had found my database online and I was able to trace the men's mother's ancestry back to a shared common root to the Saint. Father Jared was kind enough to mention me in his article in the Catholic Post.

Three Mendota families have a saint in their genealogical tree

MENDOTA — It’s not often that Catholics can say they have a canonized saint in the family, but three families of Holy Cross Parish are honored to call a Mexican priest and martyr of the 20th century “cousin.”

Two of the families are those of brothers: Rogelio Magallanes and his wife Herminia, and Jose Magallanes and his wife Martha and daughters Elizabeth and Lorena. The third family is that of Manuel Magallanes, cousin of Rogelio and Jose’s father.

Through their fathers, the three men are distant cousins of St. Cristóbal Magallanes Jara (1869-1927), one of a group of 25 Mexican martyrs canonized in 2000 by Pope John Paul II. However, Rogelio and Jose have an even closer kinship to St. Cristóbal on their mother’s side.

Jose has lived in the U.S. for 22 years, but Rogelio arrived here about 10 years earlier. They and Manuel are among the two-thirds of the Mexican immigrants living in Mendota who come from St. Cristóbal’s home town of Totatiche, located in the Central Mexican state of Jalisco, according to Father Fredi Gomez Torres, administrator of Holy Cross Parish.

Rogelio and Jose’s maternal grandmother Juana, or “Juanita,” was the granddaughter of St. Cristóbal’s first cousin, Albino Jara Araña. Juana’s kinship to the saint was confirmed by Arturo Ramos of Washington, D.C., a researcher who specializes in Northern Jalisco genealogy.

Juana made sure that her family was aware that Totatiche’s martyred pastor was their cousin, according to Rogelio.

While Rogelio and Jose do not attribute any specific graces or miracles in their lives to his intercession, they do believe that they benefit from his protection and guidance.

“We feel very, very happy and blessed to have him in the family,” Rogelio said.

“Devotion to St. Cristóbal is very popular in Mexico. The devotion is growing year by year. There are many pilgrims who visit from Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco,” about 150 miles from Totatiche, said Rogelio.

He added, “The faith of the people is growing and growing.”

TLALTENANGO, Zac.— El desbordamiento del río Xaloco dejó 15 mil damnificados, la mitad de la población de este municipio al sur de Zacatecas, así como tres muertos, 23 desaparecidos, cinco comunidades incomunicadas, 2 mil viviendas dañadas y 500 vehículos afectados.
El río pasa por el centro de la cabecera municipal y hasta ahora no se había registrado una corriente de agua importante, pero los escurrimientos de la sierra de Morones alimentaron su cauce e inundó la zona.

A las dos de la mañana, la fuerza del agua comenzó a golpear las casas y despertó a sus habitantes, y en dos horas más el agua alcanzó dos metros de altura y arrastraba todo lo que encontraba a su paso, lo que obligó a la gente a refugiarse en los techos de sus casas.

Varias horas después, cuando descendió el nivel del agua y la fuerza de la corriente, el ambiente era desolador y los pobladores pasaron del miedo a la impotencia y a la desolación. Dos menores y una anciana habían muerto, al menos 23 personas habían desaparecido. “A dondequiera que volteábamos a ver había lodo y destrozos”, dijo uno de los vecinos.

En el centro de la cabecera municipal había vehículos amontonados, viviendas destruidas, muebles rotos. “Nos quedamos sin nada”, agregó otro vecino.

Los habitantes de otras cinco comunidades —Ciénega, Mesa de Palmira, Carrecillos, Fresno y Morones— quedaron incomunicados y en la cabecera municipal, en los barrios de Veracruz, Alameda, Obispo, San José y San Pascual, las viviendas se inundaron.

Ante la magnitud del desastre, el Ejército implementó el Plan DN-III y soldados de la 11 Zona Militar llegaron al lugar para desalojar a los habitantes y llevarlos a cuatro albergues instalados en el municipio.

Por la tarde, la gobernadora de Zacatecas, Amalia García, recorrió la zona afectada acompañada por varios funcionarios y prometió la ayuda estatal y federal necesaria para reparar el daño. Poco después, la Secretaría de Gobernación emitió una declaratoria de emergencia para el municipio para aplicar los recursos del Fondo de Desastres Naturales.

Condolencia presidencial

El presidente Felipe Calderón expresó sus condolencias a las familias de Zacatecas que perdieron a sus parientes y sufrieron daños por el desbordamiento del río Xaloco en los límites con Jalisco y aseguró que el gobierno federal apoyará a todos los afectados por las lluvias en el país.

“Quiero externar estas condolencias a nombre del gobierno federal a estas familias en Zacatecas y al gobierno del estado”, dijo.

Calderón indicó que el secretario de Desarrollo Social, Ernesto Cordero, viajó a Zacatecas para recorrer la zona. “Externo a Zacatecas, Veracruz e Hidalgo, a los que han sufrido las inclemencias, que el gobierno federal apoyará con todo a las familias que viven esta desgracia”, añadió el presidente Calderón. entrevistas a familiares mi arbol genealogico hasta una septima generacion,
lo cual representa casi 200 años. me he encontrado problemas en la linea de
mi abuelo materno solo he avanzado 4 generaciones, los datos con que cuento
son los siguientes:

Does anyone know how I can obtain information about this rancho. "EL PAPELOTE EN JALISCO"? I have tried looking it up on the internet and found nothing at all. No census or if it even exists? Can anyone tell something about it or at least guide me. My paternal grandmother was from this rancho and I can't find anything on her either. Her name CAMILA ESTRADA born abt. 1894 passed away around 1937. I wonder if San Juan de Los Lagos would be a place to find some kind of documents on her.

I do have some Tepetongo films, but not this one. If you look up the record, it may list the grandparents' names. If so, that may help me to see if your Banuelos family connects with mine. I have at a few Banuelos women marrying Gonzales men.

Hello to everyone, my name is Cecilia and I am re-introducing myself to the group. I have been a member for a little while and I thank all of you sent me information on my Olivar Family. I have been reading the discussions about the Villalobos family. My great-grandfather was Tomas Villalobos married to Carmen De Los Santos who died in childbirth when my grandmother Jacoba Villaobos was born July 25 1901, Jacoba married Jose Olivar. It is said that Tomas died in a mine accident in Arizona in about 1914. That's all I know about the Villalobos side of my family. I have more on the Olivar side and you can see it on my family tree. But I really am stuck and any little bit of info on my families is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all, and hello again
