Banuelos y-DNA

So how would we go about finding a direct descendant of Baltasar Temiño
de Bañuelos??? Are there trees out there for this line already? I'd love
to compare the YDNA from the groups Banuelos SIG with the YDNA of a
direct descendant of Baltasar Temiño de Bañuelos.

Can someone point me to a direct descendant so I can ask them for a YDNA
sample???

thanks,

joseph

ps: I've got $20 that I can invest in getting some YDNA testing for a
direct descendant of Baltasar Temiño de Bañuelos if they haven't already
done so.

INURRIAGA in Jalisco - c. 1800-1875--hint

Monday, August 25, 2008

Dear Claudia--

Not sure if anyone else has been able to help you yet with the name of Inurriaga. It looked a bit familiar to me but I have it spelled two different ways--

1.TURRIAGA
2.YTURRIAGA

You might try both of these spellings and see if they will lead you to the names you want. I found seven people with this as their last name in the time period of 1812 to 1881, in Jalisco. That was the father's name, his son's, and the grandfather's five grandchildren. These were not direct line relatives so I did not go further but I am sure there will be more with this name and it is probably YTURRIAGA.

Good luck.

YAHUALICA, Jalisco, LISARDE and other misread names...

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Dear Ranchos Group--

I have two comments in regard to this listing by Daniel.

1. My husband and I had the opportunity a few years ago to visit Yahualica, Jalisco. It is a most beautiful place and unlike any other part in Mexico. If this is where your families lines go, try to plan a trip to see the land. It is absolutely incredible. At the time of our visit, we only had a camera for pictures. However the grandeur and scope of the place can only be appreciated first hand or as a poor second choice, through the offerings of a video camera. Additionally, this place was seen by Pope John Paul II and there is a statue near the church to commemorate his visit.

2. It is a fact of life that mistakes can be made in reading old documents. One of the things that bothered me, way back, was finding the marriage for one of our Godinez ancestors to a De La Torre ancestor, listed as 1892 when it should have been 1882. On the other side of the coin, the couple married in a place I never would have recognized and because there was a film number, I could look at a copy of the document and correct it. Personally, I would rather have many names to look at and possibly find the correct one than to have little to no information to review.

Bottom line...isn't Family History the greatest way to pass the time of day? Every new find leads to another and another and when we can't get it quite right, we can still make guesses. All in all, our understanding grows (along with our list of cousins and new friends) as we seek to know who we are and where we came from.

Good hunting to all.

Sincerely,
Patricia Burton

finding Bustamante

Hi all, I'm going to try this again. I have been trying to locate information on the Bustamante family from Aguascalientes. Cruz was born about 1878, it is called Santa Rosalie on some postings, but his death cert. has aguascalientes. He married Rafaela Garcia where they ended up in El Paso Texas. My question is how do I even find Cruz Bustamante? I can't seem to locate any Bustamantes in Aguas., I can find him on the Pilot program, but want to work with Nuestros. I just can't seem to find any information on them. Cruz might have been a Jr., as I find in my search others, with different birth years. I do know that Rafaela Garcia's family was F. Concepcion Garcia and M. was Cristina Sosa. Any suggestions on how to find them? Any would be a help. Thanks lupe

YAHUALICA, Jalisco - GONZALEZ, LISARDE, VASQUEZ, LEDESMA (Marriage films anyone?)

Hola amigos, primos and fellow geneologists.

My search this week is in Yahualica, where I am working on extending my Gonzalez line, and I am stuck. Maybe a fellow member can assist with the following...

I descend from the Gonzalez-Lisarde, Gonzalez-Vasquez, and Vasquez-Ledesma from that area. I am having difficulty finding the parents in the following marriages that took place at parroquia San Miguel in Yahualica:

DATE: 25 Apr 1836
GROOM: German Gonzalez
BRIDE: Ancelma Lisarde
no parents listed in IGI

DATE: 13 Sep 1797
GROOM: Jose Geronimo Vasquez
BRIDE: Maria del Refugio Ledesma
no parents listed in IGI

Does anyone have access to the films for Yahualica on these dates?

JALISCO SURNAMES: Sanchez, Salcedo, Garcia, Huidor, Macias, Gomez, Velazquez, Ramirez

HI, I am new to the list. I am looking for the ancestors of two couples who lived in San Marcos, Jalisco Gregorio Sanchez (b. abt 1879) and his wife Heliodora Sanchez (b. abt 1883) ; Brigido Garcia (b. abt 1839) and his wife Maria Yldelfonsa Huidor (b. abt 1864) who had had least one child, Cirilo, christened in San Francisco de Asis, Zocalco de Torres, Jalisco on 31 July 1887.

Also looking for ancestry of Gregorio Macias (abt 1875 - 1937) and his wife Cipriana Elvira Gomez (abt 1879 - 1979) who lived in Tizapan el Alta, Jalisco where their son Federico was born. Gregorio may have been born at San Juan Evangelista,

Also looking for ancestry of Aurora Vazquez, who was born 19 Mar 1906 Huejotitan, Jalisco, daughter of
Jose Vazquez and Agustina Ramirez. Aurora died 8 Mar 1957 at Zapotitan, Jalisco, Mexico. She marriread Federico Macias (above) abt 1900.

curiosity about ranchos

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is a list of ranchos / haciendas and who owned
them for the state of Jalisco.

Specifically I'm looking for info on San Jeronimo, which is now near or
a part of La Union de Guadalupe. Supposedly my grandfather's family
owned it as late as 1893, but I can't confirm that.

Also, does anyone have any info on Domingo de Chavez and Juana de Garza
living in Teocuitatlan De Corona, Jalisco around 1740. I found records
on the christening of a couple of their children, but nothing more. Just
thought I'd throw that out there while I wait for films to come in.

thanks,
-Angelina-

Olivar Family

Good Evening Jonathan and All,
I've hit the wall with my family and wondered if your vast knowledge and resources could help tear it down. The only actual/documented information I've obtained is from Laredo border crossings:
2/12/1917 #4774 GGrandfather, Rosalio Onate age 60 (b. 1857/58?) Villa Garcia, Zacatecas.
2/18/1917 #4785 GrAunt, daughter, Angela Onate age 30 (b.1887/88?), Villa Garcia.
3/11/18 #4775 GrUncle, son, Adolfo Onate age 22 (b. 9/27/96) Aguascalientes, Aguas. Adolfo's bdate was taken from a US work permit that stated his birthplace as Villa Garcia, Zac.
My grandfather, Luis Onate,is not listed on any crossings. If it weren't for these bits of info, I wouldn't even know that my family existed! I can't find birth records/film for anyone, even my mother! I've searched films for both Villa Garcia and Aguascalientes. I even made a trip to Aguas, Aguas last spring to search for Rosalio's tomb I visited as a young woman with my mother in a church there. Everyone in the group appears to be so helpful, so knowledgable, and so related. For two years I've read all the emails, and never find a family connection. I've done everything I know to do and research, but I know that someone out there must know or have some other resources that could help. I thank you in advance for your assistance and I will continue reading. Alice BB

Temino or Tremino

Can someone have a look at this record and tell me if the surname in
this record from Sombrerete is Temino or probably Tremino.

thanks,

and here is a cleaned up version:

I guess I got curious if this surname might be related to the Tremino de
Valasco's that Esther Harold mentioned. Is the Tremino name centered in
a particular area. My Josefa was from Fresnillo.

thanks,

Terms & Place Names In Records

Hi, Everyone:
I am currently going through a film for the marriage records of the San
Diego Parish of Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco for the 1800's. Well, I have
found a new term I have never run across before and wanted to ask if anyone
knows what it means. The term is "puesto." They will say so and so was
originally from and a resident "del puesto de San Antonio." I looked up the
word and the only thing that would make sense is that it means a military
post or a post of some kind. But, there is no other information given in
these records to indicate this is so. Also, this is
used interchangeably with a person being originally from and a resident "del
Hacienda de San Antonio." So, I'm wondering, is it a military post or a
Hacienda, or does "puesto" refer to something on this hacienda? Well, if
you may know, I would appreciate some info about this, because so many of
the place names given are refered interchangeably as "puesto de," "hacienda
de," and "rancho de."

Now, for names, this I have seen very frequently on all sorts of records
saying where someone was from or a resident of. These, I am assuming are
place names, but I am not sure if they are merely land forms or actual names
of towns, etc. Perhaps, they are the names of ranchos or haciendas? This
is not always said, but translated literally, they become something else.
For example, someone may be from "La Boquilla," which is not always in
capital letters. Well, the word "boquilla," supposedly refers to a feature
of a river canyon, but it could be a nearby rancho or little pueblo. It
never says as far as this name goes. Another one is saying that someone is
a resident of "La Cienaga," which can be both a place name or a land
description where this person may have a dwelling. So many people in
Mexico, even now, lived in little cliff dwellings and handmade shelters in
river canyons and so forth, I am only left to wonder if these are
descriptions of such places. But, I do realize that place names are given
based on the descriptions of them and hacienda names can be shortened in
common usage. Such as, instead of always saying to each other, "oh, he
lives on the Hacienda de la Boquilla," they would shorten it to, "oh, he
lives on the boquilla." Unless you were there, you are not going to know
this.

So, rattling on and on, I hope that in all of this, there is someone out
there who may enlighten me on this perplexing issue.

Updated My File

Hi, Everyone:
I updated my genealogy file folder. I added some more names to my surname
list and I placed my updated ancestral charts in the file, removing the old
charts. You will note that one of these charts is called a "Preliminary"
chart. This is because it is the information I am basing my research on. I
put it into chart form to aid my research and show Nuestros Ranchos members
more clearly the direction this body of research is heading.

This "Preliminary Cabral Ancestral Chart" is based on the research I have
done on my Cabral family history, plus what I have found on the IGI and
Family Search Pilot website. I put this all together with the information I
have been so fortunate to receive from my newly found cousins in
Guadalajara. Using this chart, I hope to follow this as a guide to learning
more about my Cabral ancestry. I cannot say enough kind words of gratitude
and appreciation to Sergio Alatorre for all his hard work and willingness to
share so much with me. And, I give thanks to his brother, Roberto Alatorre,
and also to Eduardo and Rodrigo Cardenas. I am so happy to have found out
about all of you and I hope that I will be able to meet all of you in
person. Hopefully that will be sooner than later. I also hope that we can
continue to help one another with our research.

My Cabral family history research began with the stories handed down and
certainly embellished and filled in where memory began to fail. It was said
that Benigno Cabral, my great-great-grandfather, was a Portuguese merchant
sea captain and that he had met Pioquinta Gonzalez Figueroa and eloped from
Spain to Zacatecas, Mexico. The full account is a wonderful story, but its
truth yet awaits discovery. I can imagine the embellishments added to
comfort a disquieted child who can't sleep late into the night. Yet, fact
or fiction, it is like a lantern that is held far ahead on the path and
beckons me to follow.

So far, the search has remained primarily in Guadalajara where the children
of Pioquinta and Benigno lived out their lives and where, one by one, they
have all been buried. Finding their birth records on the Family Search
pilot website, I was led to Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco. In Pioquinta's
death record that Sergio Alatorre found, it states she had come from there
and it gave her parent's names, Ignacio Gonzalez and Antonia Figueroa.
There was also found a record of one Jose Benigno Cabral born to Jose
Manuel Toribio Cabral and Josefa Limas in Huejucar, Jalisco. So, this is
where I am looking now. I had not been too successful in the past, but I
have had so much help that I feel I am finally making progress.

USCIS ESTABLISHES GENEALOGY PROGRAM

News Release

August 13, 2008

USCIS ESTABLISHES GENEALOGY PROGRAM
Fee-for-Service Program Replaces Lengthy FOIA Process

WASHINGTON — Customers can now turn to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services (USCIS) for help in researching their family’s immigration
history through the agency’s new Genealogy Program.

USCIS maintains historical records documenting the arrival and
naturalization of millions of immigrants who arrived in the United
States since the late 1800s or and naturalized between 1906 and 1956.
Until today, the process to request these records was handled through a
Freedom of Information Act / Privacy Act (FOIA) request.

“In many cases USCIS is the only government agency that has certain
historical records that provide the missing link which genealogists or
family historians need,” said Jonathan “Jock” Scharfen, USCIS’ Acting
Director.

The agency anticipates interest in genealogy to continue to grow. In the
past four years alone, USCIS received more than 40,000 FOIA requests for
historical records. The new genealogy program will create a dedicated
queue for genealogists, historians and others seeking genealogical and
historical records and reference services that generally require no FOIA
expertise. As a result, USCIS will provide more timely responses to
requests for records of deceased individuals.

Individuals may submit genealogy records requests by using the new
forms, G-1041 -Genealogy Index Search Request, and G-1041A - Genealogy
Records Request. Both forms are available on the new USCIS Genealogy
Program page at: http://www.uscis.gov/genealogy. The fees include:

* Genealogy Index Search - $20
* Copy of a File on Microfilm - $20
* Copy of a Textual File Copy - $35.
