Looking for Cordero/Flores from Tlajomulco, Jalisco Mexico.

I have researched my grandmother's family from Tlajomulco,Jalisco, Mexico. Her mother's family surname was originally Cordero Torres and around 1887 I noticed a surname change to Flores. The records show where my grandmother's mother & grandfather's surname where changed from Cordero to Flores in some records. Her grandfather's sister,Felix. also started out with the surname Cordero Torres & later became Flores. Records pertaining to Felix's grandchildren also named her as Flores. Anyone out there who experienced a surname change? Here are the other surnames I'm rsearching from the same town: Gomez-Gonzalez, Zuniga-Morillo, Solorzano-Gomez.

Mulatta from Spain?

Hello,

I am a bit confused regarding the parents of my ancestor Francisco de Esqueda Acosta. According to his will (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_Esqueda_Acosta-3), his father Francisco de Acosta Esqueda was from Coria, Reinos de Castilla. He also mentions that his mother Anna Maria was from Coria, Reinos de Castilla.

Francisco de Acosta Esqueda married Anna Maria in Aguascalientes on March 10, 1627. He is classified as Español and Anna Maria as mulata. Is it possible that Anna Maria was a mulata from Spain, since her son stated that she was from Coria, Reinos de Castilla.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11824-52325-19?cc=1502404&…

Do any of you know what can be going on? Are any of you familiar with this couple?

I descend from a daughter Francisco de Esqueda and his wife Maria Diaz named Sebastiana de Esqueda who married Juan de Soto. Juan and Sebastiana then had Onofre de Soto who married Cayetana de Estrada y Robalcaba. They later had Lucas de Soto who married Petra de Chavez. Lucas and Petra had Antonio Guadalupe de Soto who married Gertrudis de Avila.

This is what Francisco de Esqueda's testament reads:
26 junio 1708

I got Francisco Munos de Nava married to Maria Gonzalez as the parents of two brothers (Juan Lopez and Andres Munos de Nava) who respectively married two sisters (Luisa Marques and Luisa de Tiscareno) daughters of Luis Tiscareno de Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza. Juan and Luisa Marques married first, August 30, 1650 in Aguascalientes, followed by Andres and Luisa, who were married on Sept 3, 1652. Juan and Luisa were the godparents of Andres and Luisa.
I also have Luisa de Nava, daughter of Francisco Munos de Nava and Maria Sanchez, who married Diego Alonso Gonzales de Hermosillo February 25, 1645, in Teocaltiche, Jalisco.
I got a few questions: Is Francisco Munos de Nava one and the same? If yes, is Maria Gonzalez and Maria Sanches the same person? Finally, does anyone has additional ancestral information on the Munos de Nava, Sanchez and Gonzalez lines I mentioned?

Thanks

Capitan

Just curious about the title of CAPITAN of the 16th and 17th centuries in Mexico.

Was it just a military title and / or was it an honorary title awarded to influential prominent and educated men?

Was it also a title much like the British do when it dubs prominent men with Knighthood and the title of SIR?

Many of my ancestors carry that title but I wonder if they were really military officers.

Just asking.

Romo de Vivar in Aguascalientes

There were several men named Francisco Xavier Romo de Vivar in Aguascalientes in the early 1700's. My research is focused on the man that was married to Juana Dias Montanes de Sandi. I estimate he was born between 1700 and 1715. I've identified three individuals that appear to be the children of Francisco Xavier and Juana.

Lazaro Salvador who was baptized Feb 26, 1748
Antonia Leandra who was baptized April 6, 1742
Ana Maria who was married in Teocaltiche on Jan 22, 1753 (probably born around 1735)

I believe, but cannot prove, that Francisco Xavier is the son of Nicolas Romo de Viva and Francisca Xaviera Gallardo.

It is equally possible that Francisco Xavier is the son of Cristobal Romo de Vivar and and his first, Josefa Macias. Following her death Cristobal married Maria Munoz de la Barba.

I've pretty much been able to rule out all other possibilities, but there may be someone I missed.

I have looked though most marriage and Informacion Matrimonial records looking for some document that confirms the names of the parents of Francisco Xavier (again keeping in mind there are others by this name that are not of the right age). So far no luck.

If anyone has come across any record that can aid me in my research please let me know.

Thanks.

Alguien sabe si Nicolas Jimenez era espanol o mestizo?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask the members of this group if they have or know where to obtain information on the Jimenez de Mendoza lineage in Los Altos de Jalisco.
I have Nicolas Jimenez and Juana Reegina de Mendoza (daughter of Juan Jimenez and Isabel de Olivares), married in aprox. 1646 in Jalostotitlan, but I'm not sure if this is where this lineage begins in Los Altos.
Also, does anyone know if Nicolas Jimenez was spanish or mestizo?

Gracias,

Ricardo Rodriguez

Surnames and families missing from retonos

Hello Steve,

I jumped three feet in the air when I read that you wrote :

" I want to step in and present what I
> have collected on certain Alteño branches and additional lines NOT in
> Retoños such as Aldana, Barajas, Gutiérrez de Híjar, Hernández Gamiño,
> Marentes de Otadui y Avendaño, Nuño Rasura de Laín Calvo, Ornelas,
> Sánchez de Mendoza, Vital-Ibarra de Anguiano, and few others. "

I have worked on some of these families myself. I was disappointed when I did not find these lines in Mariano Gonzalez leal's books. My mother in laws great grandmother is Aldana, and she has Vital-Ibarra and Hernandez gamino also from arandas and Ayo el Chico. I also have done some work on the Marentes lines in Jalos and Tepa.
Have you done any work on Suazo and Carmona lines?

Good luck on your research.

regarding the update family search did to the guadalajara dispensas

news: for some odd reason they split up some dispensations into parts, essentially renumbering some part of the original. this will affect the page number many of these marriages can be found on.

what do you guys want me to do in regard to my guadalajara dispensation indexes? renumber the indexs i already made or just leave them be and make future indexes based on the new organization of these collections.
http://guadalajaradispensas.tumblr.com/

i also might change the theme/layout of that blog, but that's another story
