my research

I would like to share my research and records and hopefully someone in the group can help fill in the holes where I only have on spouse named in a dispensation.
The first link is to my line from Jerez and Tepetongo Zacatecas Mexico. It starts with my Dad Chet (Aniceto) Castanon.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=mexico&id=I00…

The second link is my maternal line starting with my mother Dolores Gutierrez from Tamazula, Jalisco going back to Michoacan.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=mexico&id=I41…

I just updated my files and they contain 20 years of work and over 110 thousand people. I only meant to do my immediate lines but ended up doing the lines of the families they married into.

My file name is Mexico and if you go to the index hopefully you will see something of interesting to you and your line.

Ximenes de Alvarado - Jalisco

Hello, I am looking for information on the "Ximenes de Alvarado" line from Teocaltiche, Jalisco. This is what I have so far: Luis Ximenes de Alvarado (mid 1600's) married to Maria Delgadillo, Cristobal Ximenes de Alvarado married to Petrona Delgadillo, Mariano Ximenes de Alvarado married to Gertrudis Yanes. I'm searching for documentation of a second marriage of Mariano to "Luiza Martin" around 1770-1772.

Luiza may be of the Martin de Campo line - father Francisco Leandro - mother Maria Anna Gomes Hurtado, but I cannot make this assumption. I need verification. I'm searching page by page, but I have not found their marriage records yet as of today since there are many districts where this could be recorded.

Their children's birth records are in San Lagos and Mexticacan, but they do not list grandparents. My line is through Mariano Ximenes and Luiza Martin's son Nicolas. There are ties to this family in Nochistlán, Zacatecas, Mexico and I found a Nicolas Ximenes - in that district - same time era - with parents listed as Mariano Ximenes and Luiza Martin'es' - no grandparents listed.

Thank you

Libro verde

I have long believed that the "Libro verde" would be a great source of information. I want to share my recent experience with a Libro verde.

I found some information on a line that I am researching and felt that I had hit a jackpot. When I got to the end I was disappointed because the information in the book was different than information that I had. I became very disappointed and did not sleep well that night because if the Libro verde was correct, than a lot of the research that I have been doing was for naught since it stated that the couple that I was researching did not have any children. I did notice a little mistake in the records where they stated that the wife was illegitimate. I knew for sure that this was a mistake since it was a well known fact that she was born legitimate, so I started to have hope that if they made a little mistake, than maybe they made another and my research would still be useful. The next morning, with only a little hope, I returned the Libro Verde and realized that on the far right side was an additional comment stating that it was in error and that the people that I was researching had children. I continued my research into this family and realized that some of the other information that they laid out was not true since I had seen some primary sources on the family.

It was only after this that I then researched the accuracy of the Libro Verde. It turns out that this Libro Verde is well known for its mistakes and that other Libro verde versions do not have the same information. It also turns out that the sources for many of the family trees in the Libro Verdes were documents that we can ourselves pull and should check for accuracy. I took an even closer look at this Libro verde and found many other mistakes on the family that I am researching.

Before using information from a Libro verde, it would be wise to check on its reputation for accuracy.

¿Alguien puede aclarar esto?

Anyone have or know to find Defunciones Years 1705 - 1709 of Mezquitic, Jalisco, Mexico?

Does anyone know where to get access to the Defunciones records of Mezquitic, Jalisco, Mexico during the years of 1705 - 1709?

My 7th generation great grandfather Antonio Madera had passed away sometime between 1705 - 1709 because I have seen baptismo record where he was a padrino in 1705 which means he was still alive but in 1709 during another document where his daughter Manuela Madera gets married with Xristobal Robles and it mentions that Antonio Madera as defunto.

I want to find his defunto record that should be in Mezquitic around 1705 - 1709. Those years are not online in the familysearch.org website.

Can anyone help? He is the husband of Maria De La Candelaria Angon (1655 - 1735)

Juan Arias and Theresia Macias

Juan Arias and Theresia Macias were married in Aguascalientes on Nov. 9, 1678. The marriage record is annotated that they had a dispensation because they were under age; parents names are not given in the record. I have not found their matrimonial investigation, nor their dispensation. The had several children baptized and married in Aguascalientes (at least these: Lorenzo, Getrudes, Maria, Cristobal, Joseph, Manuela, Cayetano, Joseph Antonio, and Juan Antonio).

Does anyone have information on their ancestors?

Has anyone read "The Encomderos of New Spain 1521-1555"

I copied and pasted this review. Has anyone read this book?

While the Spanish conquistadors have been stereotyped as rapacious treasure seekers, many firstcomers to the New World realized that its greatest wealth lay in the native populations whose labor could be harnessed to build a new Spain. Hence, the early arrivals in Mexico sought encomiendas—”a grant of the Indians of a prescribed indigenous polity, who were to provide the grantee (the encomendero) tribute in the form of commoditiesand service in return for protection and religious instruction.”

This study profiles the 506 known encomenderos in New Spain (present-day Mexico) during the years 1521-1555, using their life histories to chart the rise, florescence, and decline of the encomienda system. The first part draws general conclusions about the actual workings of the encomienda system. The second part provides concise biographies of the encomenderos themselves.

Gutierrez from Jalos

Hi Everyone.

My name is Mario Gutierrez, and I am interested in researching genealogy information on my paternal side (Gutierrez); as well as looking into leads from my grandmother's (Maria del Refugio Romero born in Sombrerete, Zacatecas) side of the family.

My Grandfather was Jose Genovevo Gutierrez. My family says he was born in Jalostitlan on January 3, 1872. His parents were Albino Gutierrez and Amada Guerrero. From what I have found, I was able to connect an Albino Gutierrez and Amada Guerrero as the indicated parents of Jose Genovevo Gutierrez

I found possible information on my grandfather (Jose Genovevo Gutierrez) being baptized on January 6, 1884 in Jalostotitlan according to FHL Film Number 279275.

Other information that might connect Jose Genovevo Gutierrez with his parents is: a marriage between an Albino Gutierrez and Amada Guerrerro on February 23, 1876 at Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion in Jalostotitlan as per FHL Film Number: 279306. That same film citation places Albino's birth year as 1855.

My grandfather (Jose Genovevo) worked in the railroad in Aguascalientes before immigrating to the United States to work for the Santa Fe railroad. He settled in El Paso, Texas.

If anyone one has any information connecting to my grandfather, I would greatly appreciate it. I will continue searching, and I hope I, too, can help all of you.

Juan Gonzales de Hermosillo

Thank you all who contributed to the discussion of Juan Gonzales Hermosillo and Ana Gonzales Florida. These gems bring people to life.
However, as I was reading and comparing my notes I discovered that I had falsely combined two persons:
1. Juan Gonzales de Hermosillo, married to Ana Gonzales Florida, and parents of:
Catherine, Leonor, Melchor, Maria, Ana, Theresa, Miguel, and Juan.

2. Juan Sebastian Gonzales de Hermosillo (deceased 24 June, 1699) and married to Leonor Carabajal.

And which Juan is the son of Juan Gonzales de Hermosillo and Maria Beatris Munoz.

I've tried numbering or giving them nicknames, but I still get confused with so many people with the same name. Any ideas for dealing with this would be welcome.

Thank you, Deedra Corona

Guadalajara Dispensas Master Location Lists

I compiled a comprehensive list of the indexed films of the Guadalajara marriage dispensations to help track of which films have been indexed. The sources included are the following:

**Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara by Maria de la Luz Montejano Hilton (book)

** http://www.guadalajaradispensas.com/ by Claudia Casillas

** http://guadalajaradispensas.tumblr.com/ by Katy Brecht

There are three files; I created lists by year, source, and FHL film number. The link to the reference folder is the following:

http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/21881

Within each file, I created hyperlinks for each indexed list of names and for each film link at familysearch.org. In the Word document, simply press "CTRL" and click on the link to go to the page.

I couldn't find the link for one particular film, and another film location at Familysearch includes an incorrect film.

Please let me know if there are any errors or questions, and I hope you find this helpful.

how to get or buy "Genealogía de Nochistlán antiguo reino de la Nueva Galicia"

"Genealogía de Nochistlán antiguo reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII según sus archivos parroquiales" my Libary here in TEXAS has a copy but only to use in the Libary. a book like this needs to be looked at slowly carefully for research and have for a couple of days if any one knows how to buy or get a copy that would be great thanks

about records not available on familysearch

Is there anyway to view either a digital copy or at least an index with parents names for records in towns such as colotlan, jerez, tepetongo, huejucar, or tlaltnenango. For example, there's record gaps in jerez and tlaltnenago.

In jerez there's no baptism records between 1840-1866,1720 's (-ish)-1745,1785-1796,1801-1805,1816-1818 or 1829-1835, but yet you can find baptism records between mid 1600's-early 1700's, 1746-1749,1755-1758, 1761-1784,1797-1800, 1806-1815,1819-1828, 1836-1840, and 1867-1960. Another example would be how there's no marriage records from 1705-1712 in the tlaltenango matrimonios 1626-1723.

i'd also like to see more marriage records in tepetongo pre-1819(there's only a few select marriage records from 1770's in one of the tepetongo baptism record collection),pre-1720 colotlan marriage records, or pre-1765 baptisms and marriage records in huejucar.
