I want to take a few lines to thanks our great volunteers.

Arturo and I are your moderators and he is way way beyond a moderator as
our website designer/webmaster. thank you Arturo the group would be
nothing like it is today without you.

Translation help for my poor spanish is done by Sandra Gomez Mendoza,

For a long time Kitty Cortez was doing both the 15 and 30 day notices
and recently due to family concerns needed to yield that job to Esther

tremendous job you are doing in keeping our prospective applicants

I had a similar problem when searching for the Herrera surname around the
same time period. I think it was Arturo who pointed out to me that the Herrera
surname was attached to the surname "Marin de Herrera". Only later, can one
see the "marin" portion dropped or visa-versa. Anyway, this opened a whole
new door to research.

If I were to take a guess, I would suspect that "de la Torre y Romero" were
attached surnames much like "Marin de Herrera". I would proceed down the path
of Antonio de la Torre y Romero (maybe the one writing was too lazy to write
the whole name?)

Hola a todos.

Solo quería decirles que acaba de finalizar nuestra conferencia de HISTORIA
DE LOS ALTOS DE JALISCO y fue un gran éxito. Tuvimos la asistencia de 73
personas, entre ellas 7 miembros de Nuestros Ranchos y muchos más futuros
miembros, así como cronistas de casi todos los municipios de la región de
Los Altos, invitados especiales, y por supuesto al Dr. Don Mariano Gonzalez
Leal y su familia.

Entre lo más destacado se encuentra la excelente conferencia, única en su
clase, que nos ofreció Don Mariano Gonzalez donde nos platico desde los
orígenes de nuestros ancestros españoles y la formación de su sociedad desde
antes de que vinieran a la Nueva España, hasta los mitos de sefarditas y
franceses alteños. También les platico que el Dr. Mariano nos deleitó las
mentes y nos despertó aun más la ansiedad al darnos la noticia de la próxima
publicación de sus nuevos tomos de RETOÑOS DE ESPAÑA EN LA NUEVA GALICIA,
VOLUMENES I-VII que saldrán a la venta a fines de este año. Don Mariano,
además de honrarnos con su muy grata presencia a esta primera conferencia de
Nuestros Ranchos en Los Altos de Jalisco, nos concedió el honor de utilizar
esta reunión para presentar oficialmente sus nuevas publicaciones
genealógicas, tan esperadas por todos nosotros.

Después de la conferencia pasamos a una convivencia familiar aquí mismo en
Valle de Guadalupe, donde el ambiente que se respiraba era tan placentero
como el de una reunión entre amigos. Aquí aprovechamos la ocasión para
convivir con Don Mariano y con algunos de los cronistas de municipios
alteños como Encarnación de Díaz, San Juan de los Lagos, Tepatitlán, Valle
de Guadalupe, Cañadas de Obregón, Acatic, Mexticacán y Capilla de Guadalupe,
entre otros. Se aprovechó este espacio para hablar con los cronistas de sus
publicaciones, además de la convivencia entre estos y miembros de Nuestros
Ranchos donde se dio el intercambio de información genealógica.

Pero más importante, se dio comienzo a una relación más estrecha entre el
Dr. Mariano Gonzalez Leal, los autores de libros de historia alteña y los
cronistas de la región con miembros de Nuestros Ranchos y personas
interesadas en la investigación genealógica, dando lugar al intercambio de
ideas que nos sirvió de mecha para planear la realización de futuros eventos
como este y fomentar el conocimiento de nuestro pasado genealógico.

Cuando esté listo el video de la conferencia se les hará saber para que los
que estén interesados lo puedan tener, así como las fotos del evento.

Hello everyone,

I found some church records for San Julian, Jalisco on the Somos
Primos site and was able to make some progress on my research!

I was wondering if any of you, that have experience with the Los Altos
de Jalisco area can tell me where I can write for more church records.

Family Search does not have any listings for San Julian or San Miguel
El Alto or Union de Guadalupe. The records I found on San Julian
ended just short of the 1901 birth date of my grandmother. It was not
a loss because I found her mother's baptism complete with grand
parents! An I now know that she was a Padilla from Rancho Palos
Verdes. Still, I need to see my g-mothers record so that I can proceed
with the Moreno line.

So... if anyone can point me in the general direction I would greatly
appreciate it.

He encontrado registros de bautismos de San Julian, Jalisco en el
sitio Somos Primos y pude progresar bastante con mi linea de Padilla!
Por desgracia los registros que encontre no incluieron el ano 1901, el
ano del nacimeinto de mi abuela. Lo que si encontre fue el bautism de
mi bisabuela con los nombres de mis tatarabuelos! Tambien se que elle
viene de los Padilla del Rancho Palos Verdes. De todos modos necesito
localizar el registro de mi abuela para poder seguir con mi linea de
Moreno.

Great message Daniel, I feel the same.  I would love to travel to the land of my ancestors and feel of their spirits.  I want to see the land where they lived and I would like to find the living family.  I would like to find the ranches that my grandfather owned.  I would like to find pictures of family members long gone.  I have always wanted to see what they looked like.  I just would like to know them better.

Hi all. I am planning a trip to Mexico in the fall (leisure trip to Cabo San Lucas, B.C. Sur) and was wondering if anybody knows of a bookstore chain - or national bookseller - in Mexico that I can reasearch and perhaps order some geneaology books from.

Also, any ideas on upstanding book publishers (south of the border) that specialize in geneology finds???

Yes, indeed I have some Luna, Estrada, and Rodrigues:

LUNA
A fifth great-grand-mother was Maria Timotea de Luna married to Diego de Aro (Haro) early-1800's
A sixth great-grand-mother was Maria Geronima de Luna married to Jose Miguel Carrillo in the late-1700's

RODRIGUES
A third gg-mother, Nemesia (or Demesia) Rodrigues married Jose Aniceto Reynoso in 1847.
(I've recorded about 20 additional Rodrigues relatives).

ESTRADA
I have a Trinidad Estrada, who married my third gg-aunt, Maria Luisa de Reynoso-Renteria in the mid-1800's

Hi Sofia,

Funny you should ask about visiting the graveyards in Los Altos. Some years
back I asked my Dad to take me to the cemetery and he looked at me as if I
had taken leave of my senses. He asked me why I would want to go there and
I explained that I hoped to read inscriptions on the tombstones and gather
genealogical facts that way. He said there were few tombstones and mostly
crosses. After that bit of disappointing news I did not go.

I know that in earlier times the more affluent would be buried inside or as
close to the chapels as possible. I don't know when this practice ended,
but I would guess it would be sometime between the Independence from Spain
and the Mexican Revolution. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Can you help me decipher the Reynoso-Renteria name swap? I am still struggling with this. A few Reynosos are recorded are Renterias in official records.

Point being that I believe that Ana Munoz de La Barba and Catalina de La Barba are sisters . Similarities Jose de La barba -Jose Munoz de LaBarba :

Hola Miggy,did you ever find out who the Parents of Jose Romo de Vivar who married Maria Jimenez de Hermosillo.I couldn't find any on a Juan Jose Romo de Vivar who married a Maria Gertrudis Gonzalez.I do have a little info on Baltazar Romo de Vivar and Catalina de la Barba(Ihave parents of her being a Jose de la Barba and a Catalina de Nava Munoz). I believe that her father's name should read Jose Munoz de la Barba and her Mother Munoz de Nava,but couldn't find anything under the IGI.

What is worth to navigate?
About two days ago I got curious about Daniel Mendez family tree and thought maybe he has it in rootsweb site, I tried some surnames and voila! found out we descend from Juan De Leon and María De Escapa, difference is his Juan has "Quezada" surname and the Coss Y Leon, mine is only De Leon, we already communicate about this.
That was so worthy!
I got an answer about Jose De Leon, I didn´t know if he was born in America or in Spain, he was the unknown link between Europe and America, and Daniel´s tree have him being born in America, in Silao, Guanajuato.
By navigate I mean that from time to time I like to just go here and there trough the internet galaxy, and some times I discover treasures like that link and the new enigma on the "Quezada" surname.
Yes, it is worth to navigate.

My family comes from Jalostotitlan, and I'm curious if your
Gomez are Gomez Hurtado de Mendoza or Gomez de Portugal. I've been
researching my paternal Gomez line, and it is Gomez Hurtado de Mendoza.
If it's the same, then maybe we can compare lines and see where your
Francisco Gomez might tie in. Also do you have a Rancho for your Gomez?

Greetings to all. I am learning quite a bit from these postings…general information such as the whys of dispensas and social classifications. Thanks to everyone.

My main area of research is Zacatecas, however, is there anyone doing research in San Luis Potosi who can offer suggestions. Names: Alvarado, Galvan, Rodriguez, Soto, Garcia, Ybarra, Lozano, Mireles. My trail ends with Calistro Alvarado born abt 1763, married to Geronima Mireles .

Places: Matehuala, La Morita or La Mesita, Piotillo, Rancho de la Viuda, Encarnacion. And for Lozano, I have a mention of place of birth as Boca de Caballeros (city of San Luis Potosi) a place I cannot identify.
Any suggestions, leads, or direction as to where I can research will be greatly appreciated.

Any comments on the Alvarados, where they originated, who came and when, etc.

Wow... these seem to be an inventory of some sort, no?  If only we knew where these were.
It is very unusual to find information on Juchipila and Moyahua for 1700-1800... at least I've had a very hard time.
