Hi,

I'm tracing the line of Leonor Cortez Moctezuma, the daughter that was never recognized by his mother Isabel Moctezuma. I have found some records about she was married with Juan de Tolosa, but in others mention that she was married first with Crist?bal de Valderrama, infact the line that goes to Petronila de Moctezuma comes from this one.

Juan de Altamirano (his descendants become the counts of Santiago Calimaya) took care of Leonor Cortez.

I'd like to know if this Leonor Cortez married with Crist?bal de Valderrama is the same that later married with Tolosa. You can check this link:

In the history of Coacalco mentions that Leonor Moctezuma (half sister of Isabel) married with Crist?bal de Valderrama. Then there is a contradiction between the genealogical tree that is accessed by the link I just posted in my first comments.

If we go by the Coacalco information, then Petronila de Moctezuma would be descendant of Leonor Moctezuma, but not from Isabel and Hern?n Cortez. Does anyone has a record that could prove one theory or the other one?

The word that sometimes looks like "puerto," when identifying the place
where the person in question lived, is "puesto." While it can literally
mean "place" or "position," it also translates to a "post" or "station,"
which is what I have assumed to be the appropriate use here -- perhaps
similar to the Pony Express stations or railroad depots of America's western
frontier in the 1800s? I'd be interested in learning more.

Yo tambien soy nuevo relativamente en este grupo y ya he participado
varias veces
y como pueden ver anteriormente ya me presente y mi genealogia via paterna
es de
la region de los altos de Jalisco, mi inquietud por investigar mi
genealogia se remonta al año de 1985 cuando fallecio mi abuelita paterna
Mucia Gutierrez Ramirez vda de Villegas, y al abrir la petaquilla donde ella
guardaba sus recierdos mas preciados
encontramos varias fotos antiguas de principios de 1900 y lo que mas me
impacto
fue un cuadernillo tamaño oficio o legal, sin empastar, donde mi querido
abuelo
Francisco Villegas Navarro, anoto de puño y letra los nacimientos de todos
sus hijos
anotando su fecha y hora de nacidos y el dia que se bautizaron, que
sacerdote los bautizo y cuales fueron sus padrinos de bautizmo, esto
anterior estaba bajo el apartado de Nacimientos y en otra seccion del
cuadernillo bajo el nombre de "Defunciones" anoto desde la defuncion de su
madre (Mi Bisabuela) Paula Navarro Franco y las defunciones de 3 de sus
hijos (hermanos de mi padre) que murieron infantes, y en el registro de
estas actas mi abuelo les ponia algo que para mi fue muy emocionante, al
final de cada acta generalmente terminaba con la frase: "Dedico este
recuerdo a mis hijos" y las firmaba, estas actas de recuerdo asi como las
fotos antiguas que guardaba
mi abuelita Mucia, fueron las que me inspiraron para iniciar mi
investigacion genealogica, dedique varios años en 1895 a 1989 aprox. a
investigar, pero el proceso e investigacion era muy lento en comparacion de
ahora, ya que no existia el Internet y yo no sabia nada de los Mormones o
los miembros de la Igesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Ultimos Dias,
que son los mayores genealogistas del mundo, yo trate de
buscar personas con experiencia genealogica para que me ayudaran, pero
encontre una persona de mucha experiencia y prestigioi con la cual fui muy
ilisionado con esperanzas de que me ayudara en mi investigacion, y o
desepcion, en vez de ayudarme y alentarme, hizo lo contrario, me regaño y me
dio un sermon y me desilusiono enormenmente y gracias a esto olvide mis
investigaciones por muchos
años, incluso perdi muchas anotaciones de lo que habia investigado, y solo
retome
la investigacion hasta finales de 1999, y ya con internet, supe de los
mormones y empece a ir a los Centros de Historia Familiar ademas del
Arzobispado de GUadalajara, y ahora a pesar de que las investigaciones
siguen siendo muy
tardadas y minuciosas, ya es una gran ayuda el IGI y el intercambio con
otros
Genealogistas por medio de internet.

I have been doing research on my fathers family (Asebes) since June 03. Now I have run into a brickwall with Ricardo de Asebes and his wife Ana Maria de Hortis. They are my 4th great grandparents. I cannot find any information about them in the Familysearch program. I have copies of their son, Dionicio/Leonicio (my 3rd great grandfather) and their daughter Maria Quirina, marriages, where it states that they were married (each 2 times) in Nochistlan, Zac. His marriages were in 1799 and 1804, and hers in 1803 and 1820. It also says that he was "originario del Puerto del Arroyo Hondo". We cannot read where she was from. My husband is from Tonala, Jal. and helps me translate. On those records are the names of Ana and Ricardo only, no grandparents. Also I cannot find any birth/baptismal records for Dionicio or Quirina. I would appreaciate any help.
I am also trying to figure out how to submit my Family Tree.

My grandmother "CAMILA ESTRADA" was born around 1894 en EL PAPELOTE JALISCO. She resided in Canadas de Martinez with my grandfather CELSO VAZQUEZ he was 25 years her senior. My great-grandmother and grandfather LUCIO AND LUCINA ESTRADA I am assuming were from EL PAPELOTE. I don't have any information regarding my grandmothers and don't know if EL PAPELOTE would belong to San Julian or San Juan de Los Lagos Jalisco. I don't have any other information regarding my grandmother other than she passed on around 1937, I would like to know more about the rancheria and where these people orginated from. My dad was orphaned very young and does not remember very much about his parents. Any information would be very much appreciated.

for those of you thinking of using your digital cameras at family
history centers instead of their copying equipment here is a short

If your grandfather was baptized in a catholic church, the records are
definitely as detailed as those in Mexico. The listing of great-grandparents
was a requirement under some sort of council and was mandated by the Vatican
beginning in 1810 or so.

Do you know what parrish in Laredo your grandfather was baptized in?

My ancestor Francisco Javier Desiderio Arriola was born in Monterrey in 1707 but moved to Saltillo
and married there and raised a big family that spread over the rest of the state. I have interesting information on his father Desiderio Arriola.

My information is in the Gedcom files. I also stuck on one of my Villarreals. A Josefa Villarreal who married CLemente Ancira de Perez about 1725.

4 Things that you may not have known about me . . . .

I went through some films looking for the marriage dates of my husband's grandparents in Mascota, Jalisco, and came across two different dates. The first date was in April 1900 and the other in January of 1901. I don't know if they had to go to the church first and do something before marrying, or if they came back months later to sign something or what. I looked at another couple who got married the same month. The first date was at the beginning of Paril and the other was a few days later. I don't know if anyone may know why the dates don't match? Is there any way to knkow which is the correct date? Thanks!

Gusto en volver a saludarte, despues de habernos conocido en
Tepatitlan.

Yo no te habia comentado que el programa que yo uso para la genealogia
es precisamente el Famili Tree Maker, yo lo empece a usar por recomendacion
del Dr. Carlos Barna Gómez, ya que es el mismo que el usa, y me dijo que una
de las razones por las que lo eligio era que no tiene limite de entradas
como la mayoria de los programas de genealogia, que te ponen por ejemplo un
limite de 10,000 entradas o individuos, el Family Tree Maker no tiene
limites para el numero de individuos, ellos se autonombran el programa de
genealogia mas vendido y mas popular de Estados _Unidos, lo malo es
precisamente que no esta adaptado a la genealogia hispanica, es un programa
diseñado para Genealogia Sajona solo con un Apellido, el paterno, el doctor
Barba me enseño que para que aceptara 2 apellidos, se ponia por ejemplo:

los 2 apellidos unidos por un gion, asi: Villegas-Gómez, yo asi ponia los 2
apellidos, y asi lo hace el Dr. Barba, pero cuando conoci la pagina de
Genealogia del norte de México y le escribi a Benicio Samuel, el me ensseño,
que existe una forma de que acepte los 2 apellidos de la forma Hispanica,
que solo pongas los 2 apellidos o los apellidos compuestos antiguos entre
dos diagonales, asi:
Lorenzo \Alvarez Tostado Ramírez de Mendoza\
Gertrudis-Efigenia \Ramírez Hermosillo Reynoso\
Tomás-Alejandro \Villegas Gómez\

es decir, que las diagonales \\ es como una orden que se le da al programa
para que lea primero el primer apellido o el paterno, si no lo haces asi y
pones por ejemplo:
Tomás Alejandro Villegas Gómez sin las diagonales el programa te pondra
en el indice de apellidos asi: Gómez, Tomás Alejandro Villegas......es
decir, el Gómez como apellido principal o paterno.

El truco que me enseño el Dr. Barba de Poner los apellidos unidos por
un gion, funcionaba solo para el Family Tree Maker, pero cando querias
exportar el archivo genealogico a otro formato, Gedcom u otro, no te los
aceptaba asi, asi es que eso ,me lo hizo ver, Benifio Samuel y asi me enseño
el truco de poner los apellidos en diagonales, asi si lo aceptan otros
formatos de otros programas de genealogia, con respecto a acentos y eñes,
los pongo asi sin ningun problema, y con respecto a los nombres de pila
unidos por un guion, los pongo asi para que a la hora de imprimir reportes o
arboles genealogicos, me de los 2 o 3 nombres completos, de lo contrario
solo te pone un solo nombre.

The parish is probably San Agustin. Call your local Archdiocese. The person in charge of the ARchives should have a listing of current parishes for Laredo. THe archivist should be able to help you get a copy of the baptism. THe 1930's may not be in the LDS microfilms.

Marriage records for Laredo to 1890s have been extracted. Books are sold at Borderlands Books.

Good morning:
Anyone here originally, formerly, or presently from San Antonio, TX? I am currently reading a (library) book, "HIDDEN KITCHENS", by Nikki Silva and Davia Nelson, based on their NPR series 'Hidden Kitchens'. Story #3 (chapter 3) is "The Chili Queens of San Antonio". A very interesting insight into the chili stands that used to be found at various plazas, and existed for about 100 years (until the health department stepped in in the early 1930's). In addition to the historical background, there are a couple of recipes, and an essay on Lydia Mendoza, "La Alondra de la Frontera" and an essay on West Commerce Mercado. I know this isn't within the realm of Ranchos genealogy, but thought it was an interesting presentation of past history.
Also - is anyone familiar with a film entitled "Chulas Fronteras" (a documentary by Les Blank and Chris Strachwitz)? (DVD of film available from Arhoolie/ www.arhoolie.com; Arhoolie is a small company in California that specializes in obscure music genres and re-issuing old-time recordings. My favorite is "Pachuco Boogie" - yes, it is a part of my personal collection.)

I am new to this forum. I am doing my husband's geneology. His descendants are from Aguascalientes, Mexico. I am new at this Family Geneology searching but I think I made some real strides last night. I went to Familysearch.org looking for my husband Hector's grandmother on his father's side. I noticed that Mexico was one of the choices for location so I gave it a try. Boy, I hit the jackpot. I found his father's birth info, grandparents, great grandparents, and I think even great,greats! I am very interested in more information on Luis Esparza's family tree. I think he may have moved to the states as day laborer and may have had another family in the states. He also had a son named Jesus Esparza, my husband's godfather who was born after Martin Gamez, my husband's father. My husband would really like to speak to anyone who knew his father Martin because he left the household when my husband was very young and never had contact. He found that he died in 1988 right before he had a search company find his records. Heart breaking to say the least. I hope I helped any of you out with the info. Any info would greatly be appreciated!

Hello Hope,

I am familiar with Esteban Villa's work and most of the RCAF artists. Back
in the late 70's I used to drop in their shop at the old Holy Angels
Elementary school. My cousin, Louie Gonzalez, is one of the original
members. If you follow the RCAF link, from the website you sent, you'll
see Louie and Esteban in the same picture. Talk about a small world.

Do you live in the Sacramento area? If so, you might be interested in
attending our next Nor Cal genealogy meeting. We met yesterday for the
third time, and it turned out to be the best meeting ever. We were supposed
to meet from 11 am to 2 pm, but ended up staying until 4 pm. Our next
meeting will probably be a trip to one of the libraries containing a large
collection of Hispanic Research materials. Such as, Sutro or UC Berkley
library.

I know this must sounds like a broken record, but with all the new members, it is worth repeating some basic instructions on posting messages. It is important that members follow some basic rules in order to keep the site useful and out of courtesy for other members.

Please post to the correct list. There are members that have selected specific lists from which to receive emails, e.g. research questions. Posting to the wrong list not only puts your message out to the wrong audience, it takes away from other members' ability to control what type of messages they get in their inbox.

If you receive digests for a list, please do not reply without changing the topic of the message. A message with the title "research Digest, Vol. 6, Issue 23" is not very useful. It also causes the search function of the site to lose its value, since it relies on message titles to rank search results.

Do not hit "reply to all" when responding to a message. Please make sure that there is only one address in the list of recipients of your message. Some members' postings are being duplicated because they are sending messages to both research (at) lists.nuestrosranchos.org and lists (at) nuestrosranchos.org. These two addresses are the same address and including both addresses in your message will cause the message to be posted twice.
