Odd names[ranchos]

The legend with my name is; my mother gave me a name which upon hearing, my teenage brother said "It is a "helluva" name, lets call her Helyn." When I was about eleven years of age, my mother went to the court house, and for $1.50 had my name legally changed as I had been using the new name in school.
The old name is now a family secret....hmmm

Alberto,

See http://www.hispanicmagazine.com/2000/mar/Letters/ and http://

See http://www.snopes.com/disney/waltdisn/illegit.htm and http://www.neta.com/

Disney for him being Hispanic; he does have a good history for bigotry and alcoholism
however.

The new year seems like a perfect time to introduce a few changes.

I don´t think they are related with my family. Mine are from ranchos belonging to the municipality of Jesus Maria and Arandas in  also in Jalisco.   Some restaurant and taquerias (because my cousins point it to be a diference) names are "Jalisco", "Mexico", "Mexico Lindo", some of these are in a town named Killean (or something that sounds similar) Tx., one in Austin, Tx. is "Arandina" in honor of Arandas, Jal. Those in Virginia I don´t know the name yet.   Leticia Leon wishes you a year of realizations and hope.

Regarding Tomas Alva Edison...
A couple of years ago, I had a number of people from
Zacatecas tell me that Tomas Edison was originally
from Zacatecas. Hard to believe it, but possible.
And why not, Walt Disney was of latino parents. So was
Rita Hayward, Anthony Quinn, George Bush Jr., Governor

baseball player to hit over .400 (William's I
believe), Linda Ronstadt, and many others that I
cannot remember. And I sure there will many more

Hey, don't forget we come from great stock.

Sor Juana

You're welcome. And for those of you out there who have ancestry from
Los Altos, you can also claim a parentesco with Sor Juana Ines de la
Cruz. Her great-grandfather, Diego Ramirez de Santillana-Arellano, is
also the ancestor of many, many alteños. Another son of his named
Gonzalo settled in Jalostotitlan and got intertwined with the Mendoza
lineage establishing the Ramirez de Mendoza lineage.

Please open the attached file. You may want to first print it if you
actually plan on being able to read it.

I also have the alteño lineage of Tomas de Alva (aka Alva Edison) from
either Lagos de Moreno or Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco. According to
the legend, his parents travelled up to the United States and was
adopted by the Edison family. There might be something to the legend,
because in Lagos and Encarnacion there a lot of members of the family
de ALBA\ALVA. If you check out the 1850, 1860, and 1870 United States
Censuses on Ancestry.com, you will see that he as not
