Dear Maria;
Thank you ever so much for your suggestion. Could you tell me how to see
an Italian or German telephone book on the Internet ? I will quickly do what
you have suggested. I have done 1890 to 1895 so far for the church in
Argentina. I still have another 1,800 names to extract before I am finished.
I will go over the names once again to try any new names that I find. I
didn't recognize them as Hispanic/Spanish names, they appear odd, "Buachasa
Lorenjasa", "Julijenta Chuebulan" and others that I have never seen before,
or they appear spelled as I just spelled them or maybe I mistook the letters
in the name and they are spelled altogether differently. Also, the church
fathers making the entries use script and it is so hard to read. If they
would use calligraphy so I could use my book, that would be fine or print,
that would be fine. Each new priest has different script writing. Some you
may be familiar with are that some make a "J" and put a line through it and
Jose Luis, I know that there has been a significant number of Italian and German Immigrants in Argentina. Perhaps that's why the names seem so different from those found in other Latin American countries. Maybe you could try looking for Italian and German phone books on the Internet? The names could've also been changed by the priest to sound more Spanish. Like the name Lomelin was changed from the original Italian surname of Lomellini in Mexico. Just a thought. Dear Group Members:For those of you researching Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico, I am viewing a film from the Teocaltiche church records #0639009, baptisms 1889-1890. I am searching for my maternal grandmothers' informaton, Juana Fuentes. She married Cresencio Avila, son of Narciso Avila and Senovia Carrillo, date unknown. If you have any names during that time line that you want me to look for while I search, please let me know, I will be happy to do this. Hilda McGuire

Joseph,
Thank you for the kind words
about the work I do on extraction. Joseph, I have a problem that I hope that you could help with. When I am doing the names on the records I often find strange names and spellings. I had a baby name book for naming kids and I wonder if there exists such a book for Latino kids. I thought that a phone book would help so I got one for a local city that has a lot of Hispanic families. There seems to be a limited number of first names and surnames. I need a better source. For example, I found a name that looked like "Eulalio Chuc" . I have never seen the surname "Chuc" or "Toco" or "Andurate" Moratalla. I am doing a church in Argentina and I guess the names are different or I am not that familiar with "Oligalla Zulipata". See, I am not sure if such names exist or if I am not reading them right. If I knew or had seen names like that, then I would recognize them like " Jose", "Juan" or "Julio". You are a helpful person and if |

Joseph,
That was very interesting about your Gedcom. I don't know anything about those. I started looking at the list of all the people on your Gedcom, and I realized there are 1,610 individuals in there. Who are all those people? And this is just on your father's side!!?? Are they all your ancestors---your gggggg-grandparents, their siblings, and in-laws and all their descendants too?

I believe it took place in 1519, when Cortes first set foot on what is now Mexico. At that time there were only rumors about the big city of Tenochtitlan. I think Cortes was the third expedition to Mexico, because the first two had failed with many casualties. The author of the book, Bernal Diaz del Castillo, was actually part of those three expeditions, including the battles against the aztecs and the conquest of Tenochtitlan. --- In ranchos@yahoogroups.com, Alberto Duartewrote: > What year did this take place? > > Alberto. > --- "Steve G. Well, Joey, Pepe, Don Jose, my boy, I was just trying to give you the respect due a Webmaster, ha, ha. OK, I will refer to you in future as Joseph. You are not an old guy, I know; and at 66 I am probably the oldest member of this group.
I will send the links to you off-line and then you can see if you can put them on a file of links that point to my trees in World Connect? Is that what you will do? It will take me a while to figure out again how to bring up my trees so I can copy and paste the URL. It always takes me a while whenever I send the link to others, since I am technologically challenged. I used to try and send the trees from the Ancestry.com site that I use to update them, but my sister said she was blocked from accessing my trees from that site because she is not a subscriber to that site, etc.
Hasta Luego,

The date that Gonzalo Guerrero, father of the first Mestizos, arrived in the new world was around the Spring of 1511 on a ship that landed on the Yucatan Peninsula, possibly in Cozumel, or Zama or Tulum or Ple la Xelha of today, according to the article about the "Estatua de Gonzalo Guerrero". Good idea, Deena,
I had told Mr. Puentes that I do not have a genealogy program on my computer because it is old and does not have enough memory for one, so I was unable to upload any gedcoms to the Ranchos files. However, I have many trees on World Connect and I offered to send a link to them. I would need instructions on how to do that, since I am not all that computer literate. I got my trees on World Connect by using the online Family Tree program at Ancestry.com. It is very user friendly for me, plus I can store all my trees outside of my computer at a safe place where they won't get lost and where everyone interested can see them. I update them there from time to time as I find more information. I have been contacted by and been able to help others researching the same lines also.
