Familia Brambila y Arriaga (Brambila y Arriaga Family)

Hola:

http://es.scribd.com/doc/39986340/Esbozos-Historicos-de-Tecolotlan

Saludos
Salvador Agraz

Eventhough I do not descend from the Brambila y Arriaga (sometimes de la Brambila y Arriaga)
it appears that couple of families used this name namely three branches I have found on in
Mexico City early as 1640 the obvious one in Jalisco and another in Michoacan. The
Brambila y Arriaga of Zamora, Michoacan shared close ties to my family Mendez de Torres,
in the marriage of my 7th great grandfather Capt. Joseph Mendez de Torres, Alferez de Zamora
is noted that his padrino was don Alexandro Brambila y Arriaga dated 3 May 1682 in Zamora
don JOseph married Antonia de Solis y Mota Padilla.

Also in another marriage record dated 28 Feb 1683 in Zamora, Michoacan:
Goncalo de Zepeda esp hijo lexitimo del capt. Blas de Zepeda y Dna. Luisa
de Lebana difuncta con Da. Josepha de Brambila y Arriaga hl de don Alexandro de
Brambila y Catalina Arriaga esps. vecinos desta villa (de Zamora).

Im not sure how these fit into that line of Jalisco if they even do but I thought I would
share this.

Hi Daniel:

Thank you for the information previously given. I have read once that the Brambilas' first settled in Michoacán, because Juan Antonio's Brambila (the first Brambila in Mexico) father-in-law, Don Antonio de Arriaga, had as an "encomienda" the Tlazazalca territory in Michoacán. Then some of their descendents went to Jalisco.

So as conclusion, what you said is another clue for saying that the Brambilas' first had their settlement in Michoacan than in any other Mexican state.

Thank you for your time, I'll continue with my research and any new information, I'll tell you.

Can anyone researching Zacatecas tell me where San Jose de la Ysla is located?
I notice in the earlier years many people are coming to Jerez Zacatecas from
there.  So many names have changed through the years I also wondered if it still
exists.

I'm researching death dates in Jerez and have found that in 1831 most of the
deaths are from viruelas.. My translator does not tell me what this is.. also
heredia seems to be a cause of death for the older folks.. what are these in
English?  Also is there a translation in Spanish for Spanish flu or influenca?

Miggy,

Chicken pox is varicela. Smallpox is viruela. Another way to find the
translation to words is to look it up in Wikipedia then click on the link on
the left for the desired language you want it translated to.

Not really related but those were some terrifying times. In Santa Maria
de Los Angeles during the same time period maybe just a little later in
the 30's there was page after page of deaths caused by cholera. I found
it scary just looking at all the deaths one after the other with the
word cholera as the reason.

Check for gaps in IGI batch files

Hi everyone, I want to share something I discovered today. I found a gap in the records for Arandas in batch no. C602951 covering baptisms from 1768-1785 (film no. 279526).

I had a similar problem in the Bautismos for Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco. In the link for the images to Bautismos 1854-1866 it says "1854-1860". The images for 1860-1866 were put up, but not indexed and the link is wrong. I assume that with such a massive task of uploading and indexing, batches will be missed in one way or another. I alerted Feedback at Family Search and they said they would let their engineers know of the problem.

No records were returned (nor for 1784). When I set the year to 1783, it returned 145 results.

Thank you for following up. My Great Grandfather, Francisco Martin(ez) was born "about 1864" in Encarncion de Diaz, Jalisco. I ha I have failed so far, to discover his baptisimo. Perhaps what you uncovered is the reason.

Emilie,

The Encarnación de Díaz links are listed the same way the microfilms have
always been named. Meaning both 1155474 and 1155475 were named Bautismos
1854-1860 and are likely in the same link and have all the years needed.
Since two different films have the same name they probably can't make two
seperate links and instead we have to search through one big link. There are
1660 records for the link to Bautismos 1854-1860 and I see images for 1854
as well as 1863. 1863-1866 starts at image 1599.

To see how films are named and see their corresponding film number for
Encarnacion you can look at both of the following links

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/show?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fcatal…

Salvador,

In the website for the city of Nochistlan, the only "persona Ilustre" with the surname Quirarte is
a lady who is/was a "historiadora". Maybe she is/was a relative of yours.

I?m looking marriage and baptism records about Pedro Munoz and Maria Trinidad Aguilar. Their child Cosme Munoz Aguilar married may 1858 at Villa de Cos, Zacatecas, with Carlota Moreno Guerra Valades. Does anyone knows about? I search at the parrish and I didn?t find anything. May you suggest a Parrish significant close to Villa de Cos? I mean significant because migration or commerce, or something like that. Thanks in advance. And remember I am in Coahuila, I can send you information of my state.

Hi Paul,

There is an interesting story behind this place. In colonial times the jurisdiction was called Santa Maria de Mecatabasco which
was also the name for the parish. With the reforms of Benito Juarez the municipio was named Tabasco and the parish still
was named S. Maria de Mecatabasco. For some reason Villa del Refugio was also attached to this place. Have not found
this one yet. But all the records will be under Tabasco, Zacatecas. There was rapid movemento in this area which I call
the long lost zone. People from all over would travel to Tabasco it must have been an important site as far as I have studied.
People from Nochistlan, Juchipila, Tlatenango, Villanueva, Zacatecas, Colotlan, Calvillo, Aguascalientes, Jalpa and Teocaltiche
would travel to Tabasco for whatever reasons. I have many lines going in-and-out of this area. The church records start
1747 so I would assume everyone stayed in their parish.

What do you have on your Ibarra and Salas, we might share lines in this area.

This is great news, George! I worked very hard with FS indexing on Nayarit. My father and his mother and father were born in Nayarit, as well as multiple numbers of paternal (Gomez) and maternal (Lizarraga) grandparents were born in that state, orignally part of Nueva Galicia.

Hello Nancy,

I looked up the marriage you mentioned which showed to be in film 279299. I
looked up the name of the volume by going to
https://www.familysearch.org/#form=catalog&catSearchType=film_number then
putting in the film number then I went down the list until I found it
corresponds with Matrimonios 1791-1800. Then I went to Mexico, Jalisco,
Catholic Church Records Jalostotitlán - Nuestra Señora de la Asunción
like you mentioned and I clicked on the link for Matrimonios 1791-1800. Then
I checked some pages until I found image 241 which has the marriage record
you were looking for. The film record number in the index definitely matches
where the record actually is. There is a difference between the records of
Matrimonios which is a record of the actual marriage and Información
Matrimonial which is a record of the declarations of the involved parties
and the witnesses. The names found in the records of the Información
Matrimonial unfortunately were not indexed but at least they are available
online now.

The batch number can be used to specify your searches within that batch. If
you already have a batch number and do an advanced search there is an option
to put the batch number in there. The batch search helps if you are
researching a specific surname in a specific area instead of a specific
person.

If you are tracking which images have which dates it would be great if you
could share that with us in an online spreadsheet through Google docs. I
have an incomplete example at
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?hl=en&key=t3TFSBZqgC-ld…

Armando

information record that has 3,100 pages, they are being done 1 by 1 so I don't
miss the family connections since they list the dispensations that go back 4 and
5 generations.

Sometimes we are very lucky and find someone working on the same lines and they
share their information that connects us and takes us back generations.

As for me I have started listing the page numbers from the Familysearch online
pilot program you are using now.  This will make it much easier for you and
others to find what they are looking for without having to search the complete
month or year to find what they are looking for.  I am also entering into my
records the page number for each month on the film I work on.. so much easier to
find if you have the first page of each month..

Happy hunting, Linda in B.C.

A huge thank you to Daniel Méndez Camino who sent me in the right direction!!!
:)
After only a few weeks at familysearch.org...I can trace our Casillas family
back from Blase Alexander Casillas (my little grandson) to Blase> Blase> Blas>
Cristino> Pilar> Crisanto> Carlos> Santiago> and our last found
ancestor...Joseph Cabrera Casillas who was married to Paula de Villasensor in
1771 and referenced as the parents of Santiago in his marriage records.  Is
there an easier way to access the records in familysearch.org.  I found the
actual hand written marriage record of José de Santiago Casillas and Maria de
San José Vasquez (Basquez) in 1797, but I had to scroll through the records
after I went from:
1) Scrolling down the page at familysearch.org to where it says "Browse by
location"
2) Choosing "USA, Canada, and Mexico"
3) Scrolling down on next page to: "Mexico, Jalisco, Catholic Church Records"
4) Clicking on the BLUE link that says "Browse through 5 Million + records"
5) Next page Click on "Jalostotitlan"
6) Next page Click on BLUE link that says "Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion"
7) Next page you have to choose the year you are searching for example:
"Information matrimonial 1797", and scroll through 100's of records.
They had film record numbers on their indexes which didn't match the film number
where I found Santiago's marriage record, and what good is the batch number?  It
goes nowhere?  Can anyone give me a hint?  Is there an easier way than going
blind like this..... or is this it?

Linda,
What sort of record is it that lists so many generations back?!  The matrimonial entries I've researched online are very short, sometimes don't even list parents.  Then the corresponding informacion matrimonial to the entry, is not much longer.  I've never even seen grandparents mentioned, usually just testigos giving the same formulaic responses.
What you're doing sounds very long and drawn, but with the promise of great results.
Please let me know.  Are these documents you are researching from another source other than familysearch online or microfilm?
Thanks so much.  Sounds exciting!   Alice Blake

Alice these are marriage information records for Jerez, Zacatecas. I'm working
on 1891-1902 so it's no wonder there are more than 3,100 pages. Not all marriage
information records give as much information as the later ones but they do
usually mention the inlaws and of course the witnesses.  I am also now intering
if they could read or write also, that information is on the marriage
information records too and also for the witnesses and parents.  Some older
records simply state they had a dispensation and how many generations, 2nd, 3rd
or 4th degree.  I find marriage information records give more information than
any other church record.
I am only working on the Familysearch pilot program now since I can work from
home.  Going to Jerez and Jalisco was of no help since they were understaffed,
overworked and had no copy machines.  I think others have had better experiences
finding records in Mexico than I did.

Thank you for the heads up....I have been researching now over 30 years....but the   French side of the family.   The French were fanatics at record keeping and  indexing records.  They also linked the records pretty fast, when digitalizing of records began.   T he University of Montréal is a wealth of information as well as the PRDH and have links to the actual records that are indexed, so you don't have to scroll through 1000's of them .   With all the effort that was done to compile the index at familysearch.org....it would have been heaven if someone would have thought to put  the page numbers down  as they indexed everything.  Can you imagine how sweet that would have been.   With what I am looking for  in Jalostotitlan, it'll only be about 400-1000 to scroll through... ...wish me luck!! :)

Since I'm relatively new at this, I thought that maybe there is another source I just didn't know about dealing specifically with dispensations for marriage that offered more information than the informacion matrimonials online.  It's true I'm currently dealing mostly with early to mid 1700's, so things must have been different then or different from parish to parish.  Continued good luck on your gold mine!

Alice, one thing I've learned is whenever possible don't enter a surname for the
wife unless her name is Maria.  The females used so many surnames it sometimes
simplifies things. Also expect females to have more than one surname. Another
thing is if the surname is not usual for the area then expand your search to all
states.
Also the Sagrada Mitra does deal with only dispensations for the earlier years.
I have not tried the Guadalajara records but they sound very informative.
good luck in your search.. the ancestors are waiting for you to find them!

Thank you, Linda. Good suggestions. I,too, have found the importance of jotting down page numbers attached to dates;otherwise you find yourself, researching pages more times than one. In the end, however, research remains that, i.e., lots of tedious plowing through page of page, looking for that elusive family member. But what satisfaction in "discovery",no?

Nancy, welcome to the wonderful world of research!  I'm working on a marriage
information record that has 3,100 pages, they are being done 1 by 1 so I don't
miss the family connections since they list the dispensations that go back 4 and
5 generations.

Paul, I should have mentioned there is no thrill like finding it yourself.. for
this reason when putting things in my online baptism files I put the childs
name, date of birth and city and the parents only.  I give the film and page
number to allow the reader to find the grandparents and padrinos for
themselves.  I do list the grandparents but not how they are listed in the
record.  I totally agree with you!!!

Thank you, Linda. Good suggestions. I,too, have found the importance of jotting
down page numbers attached to dates;otherwise you find yourself, researching
pages more times than one. In the end, however, research remains that, i.e.,
lots of tedious plowing through page of page, looking for that elusive family
member. But what satisfaction in "discovery",no?

Can you give us some details about what your extractions include? Is this all the births, marriages, and deaths? Or only for those families to which you are related?

Perhaps, if you could give us the table of contents?

It does not include an index I decided to exclude because the price was going to be much higher. I rather have people pay
for the actual content and work and not the index.

Felipe Cadena Lopez 1859 - 1939 Married to Zenobia Carrillo de Lopez

Hello, I'm trying to find relatives of Felipe Cadena Lopez and Zenobia Carrillo de Lopez from Corral Blanco, Jalisco area.

Comentario

The best place to find your relatives is at
www.familysearch.org
When you first get to the site, you type in some names, where it first
opens. When you are there, you have to scroll down a bit, and click "advance
search" to add a spouse or child. You make a choice by clicking on the drop
down box, and chose "child, spouse, or parent". That is how I found all the
indexed records I have.
Once you find out where they were married or baptized, you can go directly
to the records for Corral Blanco by:
1) Scroll down the page to where it says "Browse by location"
2) Chose " USA, Canada, and Mexico"
3) Scroll down on next page to: "Mexico, Jalisco, Catholic Church Records"
4) Click on the BLUE link that says "Browse through Million +
records"....yes just do it :)
5) Next page Click on "Location"
6) Next page Click on BLUE link that is "Name of Church"
7) Next page you have to choose the year you are searching for example:
"Information matrimonial 1771"
8) Next Scroll through the records. Pay attention to the dates on the
records you open versus where they may be in the records....if you see May
for example and you are looking for January....go back in the records....if
you are looking for October or November go forward in the records. They are
all in Spanish....under "learn" at this site they have lessons on how to
search. You may only have a couple hundred records to scroll through this
way. Also you have to click on an arrow at the top right hand side to load
each record. Sometimes the first 6 or 7 pages are blank. Good Luck! :)

I am  trying to research my grandfather Gabino Gutierrez.  He was born in Valle
de Guadalupe, Jalisco, Mexico about 1889.  He migrated to the United States
about 1907, living in Ohio.  He married and had three children, my mother being
one.  My grandparents divorced about 1924 and he returned to Mexico, marrying a
Casillasand having two sons(Juan and Benjamin).  She died and he married her
younger sister Cecilla Casillas and had one son(Manual). My grandfather died
somewhere between 1968 and 1972.  I traveled to Mexico with my family  in 1964
to meet my grandfather  and Cecilla.  I have been trying to find if he has any
relatives still living and his history.  I have found some in Family Search, but
cannot tie all ends.  I see where he crossed the border in 1940 to visit a
sister in Los Angles.  I found her in the 1930 censuswith their parents living
with her.  I also found where his mother died in Los Angles and I know it is her
as it was stated her mother's maiden namewas Cruz and all the dates matched.
But have not been able to see his sister's birth or any records. Any help would
be greatly appreciated. I am including link

I found on Family search what I believe was when he was born. If I have it right, his father was Monico Gutierrez and mother was Toribia Albarez with a birthdate of February 19, 1889. I know this date is about right as I have his age on my mom's birth certificate and I found a border crossing in 1940 that I know was him that gave 1889 as birthdate and it gave Cecilla Casillas of Valle de Guadualupe as his contact. As for his death I know it was around the time I gave birth to one of my daughters, but can't remember which one. One was born 1968 and the other 1972. I lean toward the 1972.

Hello,

I am researching Gonzalez, Saucedo (or Sauceda/Sausedo), and de
Santos. I have records of my great-grandparents crossing to the U.S.
in 1948 and1952. My great-grandfather, Hilario Saucedo de Santos, was
born in January of 1910 and the record says he came from Encarnacion
de Diaz, Jalisco. It says "Pa: Celerino Saucedo" and "Ma: Amada de
Santos." I believe they meant "padre" and "madre," but they are listed
as "partner" and "maid." Hilario's wife, Maria Gonzalez-France (France
is on the record, but could have been misspelled or abbreviated) was
born in June of 1917 and the record says she also came from this town.
In 1952 their oldest child was 15, so they might have married around
1935 or 1936.

Amada and Celerino married in November of 1889, according to church
records. Amada was baptized in Encarnacion de Diaz in Sep. 1874. This
means she would have been 36 when Hilario was born. Her parents' names
vary according to a couple of sources so I am still working on them.
Celerino was born between 1867-1870, most likely in San Matias in
Pinos, Zacatecas. His parents are Jose Refugio Saucedo and Victoriana
Salas, and his great grandfather could be Demencio Saucedo.

I have not been able to find wedding or baptism records for Hilario
Saucedo de Santos and Maria Gonzalez, so this is what I am focusing
on, since I would like to verify the names of parents, grandparents or
in-laws.

Any questions or input welcome, thanks.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Monica Medina Zavala Ochoa, and I am/have been, researching the Medina/Lopes(z) (maternal grandfather), and Tirado/Barrientos/Ramires  (maternal grandmother) families from the parishes of San Jose de Anaclo and Villa  Encarnacion de Diaz Jalisco and El Sagrario Aguascalientes,  since I was a girl with my mom who passed 10 years ago. I have found many records at the Family search site, and have become obsessed with piecing together as much as I can. So far I have gone back 4 generations on my maternal grandmothers side.

I am fluent in both English and Spanish so any specific links or databases that you may suggest would be welcome, and if there are any questions for me as far as records or information I am more than willing to share/upload what I have so far.

Thanks!

I expect the Oaxaca records will get moved to Mexico, where they belong. Some other records for Mexico were initially placed with the US records, and were soon moved.
