Nuestros Ranchos Somos Primos submission

this appeared in the latest Somos Primos newsletter:

*Nuestros Ranchos: Jalisco, Zacatecas y Aguascalientes
*

Are you researching your ancestors that at sometime lived in or were
from Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes? If you are a
"/Serious/" researcher the http://nuestrosranchos.org group might be
an environment helpful to you. We are a group of about 150 individuals
researching this area and would welcome you if you are willing to abide
by the two simple requirements for membership:

1) State that you are willing to do your own work. There are many groups
on the internet for the "/Casual/" genealogist, but Nuestros Ranchos
is not such a group. By "/Casual/" I mean those that do very little or
nothing to advance their genealogy and are only looking for others to do
the work and then claim it as their own. The "/Casual/" genealogist is
not welcome in the http://nuestrosranchos.org group.

2) Demonstrate your willingness to do your own work by sending in a
small "/representative/" branch of your genealogy tree that shows your
connection to our area of research. [Note: no we are not wanting you to
send it every document you ever discovered or your gedcom or your years
and years of research findings, just a "/representative/" tree. The
group is open to all levels of researchers so if you are just beginning
and really have nothing to submit then we'll accept a short account from
your family's "/Oral History/" that gives you the understanding that
Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Aguascalientes are the states of your genealogy
research].

If you need time to think about membership I would encourage you to go
to the http://nuestrosranchos.org site and read through the extensive
"/Public/" archives. [Note: Submitted genealogies are considered the
copyright protected property of the submitter and are kept in a
"/private to group members only/" area of the group].

"The Library of Congress has a lot of documents, books and manuscripts
on their website. One manuscript of particular interest to this group is
the title in my subject line, written by Mexican lawyer, Matias de la
Mota Padilla in 1742. It is hand-written, but very legible. It contains
a lot of names of people and places dating from the Conquest to 1742 in
Nueva Galicia. The link to the Library of Congress is already in the
links section. You can find the book by clicking on "Collections" and
then browsing through the list of Selections from the National Library
of Spain."

Dear Primos and near Primos. . . .

I would like to dedicate this issue to */Johanna De Soto/*, with the
greatest gratitude for her faithful support, tireless in seeking out
fascinating websites and tidbits of information. She will be missed,
but family lifetime changes have prompted the decision, which I received
sadly. We wish her great joy in her retirement.

This issue completes the 7th year of Somos Primos online, and the 84th
monthly issue fully available on the web. Thank you for your wonderful
letters. They are greatly appreciated. Please feel welcomed to share
in 2007 your family research or articles of interest that you come across.

Wishing you all the warmest wishes for a wonderful Merry Christmas with
the blessings of health and family.

Sincerely, Mimi

Introduction - Lucy Sweeney

My name is Lucy Jennings Sweeney. I have just uploaded the Gedcom for my
maternal line, which is entirely in Jalisco. Thank you, Arturo. Here are
the areas of Jalisco, the family lines, and the ranchos I have found in
my research.

In the Jalostotitlán area - Lozano and Muños lines:
- Eleno Lozano was born on Rancho Rincon de Chavez (San Miguel).
- Salomé Muños was born on Rancho La Estanzuela.
- The Lozano/ Muños children were born on Ranchos El Peñon, La Laguna,
and El Potrero Blanco.

In the Mascota area - Ramírez/ Aréchiga line:
- They lived on Hacienda de Aguacatepec, Hacienda Los Volcanes, and in
Atenguillo.

In the Tecolotlán area – Medina line

In the Puerto Vallarta area – Ramírez/ Medina and Mantecón lines:
- Rancho El Coapinole
All lines converge in Puerto Vallarta in the early 1900’s.

I am excited about working with a group that has so much knowledge about
genealogy in this part of México. You are willing to share tips and
sources with beginners like me.

Mariano González-Leal.

Figen and I and John Robles

Figen and I have been married since 1995. . .not a real long time but
sort of. Anyway it's amazing how she and I think alike at times and at
the same time.

I had been thinking something this morning and she just piped in with
the same thought and I wanted to share it with you as it is about a
Nuestros Ranchos Member: John Robles and his group: El Son del Pueblo
(http://www.elsondelpueblo.com/).

Figen and I are having company later today and also next weekend. So
that means doing a clean up which usually means me doing the Kitchen and
my messed up desk and She does the lion's share of other areas though we
often split the bathrooms. . . .hmmm, I have gotten off the subject.

so anyway as we clean usually she says "why is there no music?" so today
I beat her to the punch and said "why is there no music?" and she said
she was thinking the same thing.

Now I don't like over doing my listening of any one thing to much so
after listening to 75% of the tracks of John Robles CD
(http://cdbaby.com/cd/esdp) when I first got it awhile back I thought it
would be in order to give the CD another listen while we cleaned. Well I
was soooooo enjoying it and then in one of the tracks either John or
Jorge Mijangos sang out something like "el pueblo mas bonito, Santa
Paula" and it brought back memories of my Dad who was born in Santa
Paula and Mom who worked there and they were married there and started
their family their. But as the CD played on I just kept marveling that
it just kept on "staying good" track after track. So then I'm thinking
that and suddenly Figen chimed in "I really like that music." Wow. She
is from Turkey and has no reason to like something Mexican other than it
being good and this Music is good especially if you like the Veracruz
folk harp (arpa jarocha). . .hard not to dance around listening to it.

John and I have been talking about him doing an Audio presentation for
the http://NuestraFamiliaUnida.com podcast project on the History of the
music style he plays from Veracruz.

Just wanted to give others my feed back that this music is definitely
worth adding to your collection (and no I'm not on the payroll or a
stock holder, neither did I get a discount or a percentage).

have a listen,

joseph

Now in San Francisco

I am now quite at home by-the-sea in San Francisco.

I updated my email address but still have not received any emailings from our group:(

I was SHOCKED to find out that there is no Family History Center in San Francisco! Only one on Pacific that is open by appointment only.

Even worse, there is no Home Depot, and no 99 centavos Only stores.

How am I supposed to get my new apartment building on its feet without Home Depot?

I made a major genealogical break through. A stranger from Corpus Christi emailed me. He told me his own (Jurado) grandmother left him a box full of letters and old documents, and recipes from someone named Maria del Rayo Caballero.

From the content of the documents and civil filings he concluded Maria del Rayo Caballero was a wealthy woman, and his grandmother might have worked for her.

Then he found my maternal website. The first time he knew who Maria del Rayo Caballero was.

My ggggrandmother who was born around 1782. Not only did he have her correspondence, but her picture! I never dreamed there could be a photo of any of my relatives that far back, seven generations. She was born before photography, but in her old age lived into that era.

He went on to tell me the recipes were written in her own hand, dozens of them, dated in the 1830s, in beautiful, perfectly legible script, with a notation that these recipes were cooked in her kitchen.

Of course he never gave me so much as a recipe for frijoles!
He says he's going to publish a book based on my family recipes, which is just fine. I had hoped to share them with you here. But if I have to buy a copy I will be glad to!

He also told me that he has a novena card of hers dated 1802 with the prayers she recited as a child.

But his nudge encouraged me to further research Maria del Rayo Caballero.
I was able to push my ancestry through her all the way back to Cristobal Caballero and Ana de Pena who were born in Cordoba, Spain around the 1630s.

I almost feel like I knew Maria del Rayo Caballero. I feel a deep affection for her.

one of the following things:*/_

1) emailed moderator@nuestrosranchos.org with a request for the specific

*Note you might be a new researcher with very little or nothing to
submit. In this case you'll be able to meet this requirement by sending
in a short account of your family's "Oral History" relating your roots
to Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.

2) send moderator@nuestrosranchos.org an email with your

Posting family files

I've been on the road since the end of Sept but have made it a point to read the postings even though I haven't responded. I'm happy to see so many new Spanish speaking members even though I don't read it very well my knowledge is expanding because of them by way of bablefish.. Welcome.

I also want to welcome Daniel Mendez who's gr-grandfather Francisco Mendez was brother to my gr-mother Maria Mendez from Tamazula Jalisco. Because he saw my postings on Ancestry.com he was able to contact me about some serious errors I had made on the Mendez family tree in the 1900's. I took names on old photo's as fact and put them in my records in error. I thank Daniel for taking the time to contact me with the corrections on his family tree. It turned out an unknown photo was Daniels father and older brother taken at my uncles home 20 or so years ago, long before I started working the genealogy of the Mendez family in Tamazula Jalisco.

I'm very happy to be back online in Everett Wa. again

Atentamente Celestino Villalobos.

To whom it may concern,

Hello, my name is Juanita G. Delgado. I live on the Texas-Mexico border.
I have been researching my late husband's family name for several years now. Of course, I started with the information beginning with the people I knew had come from
Nuevo Leon, and then traced them to San Matias, Pinos, Zacatecas. I am fortunate because I was able to get much information at the public library where I am a volunteer.

I would like to "complete" my work on the family name, so I am desperately seeking information on the name in Pinos. The only date I have is a 1701 between Bartolome
Delgado and Francisca Melcalin y Chavaria. I am assuming they married in Zac.
Their son, Juan Manuel Delgado did marry in Pinos, in 1728, in Pinos.

Thank you for allowing me in this group. I am confident that I will be able to obtain
more information on this family.

Thank you,

Juanita G. Delgado

Joseph,

You forgot part of the history where on the order of Onate, Vicente Zaldivar bushwhacked my ancestor
Alonso ALbernoz de Sosa. De Sosa had asked Onate for permission to return to Mexico.
The people became very afraid of Onate's dictatorship and his ruthless ness. While most of the soldiers
in the company were on a foraging expedition, th ose disgruntled with Onate left New Mexico. In this group was the widow of Alonso Albernoz de Sosa, Beatriz Rodriguez Navarro, her children, and
her new husband Captain Bernabe de la Casas. THe group reported to Zacatecas where they told the authorities of Onate's atrocities. The people who fled were pardoned. Beatriz and her family moved to
Saltillo, Coahuila with her father, Juan Navarro Rodriguez. The granddaughter of Beatriz and ALonso
married Vicente Zaldivar, a descendant of Vicente de Zald
