Vicente Carlos Servantes?

Does anyone have Vicente Carlos Servantes in their tree?

I estimate his birth circa 1735-45 in Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas.
I'm about a 1/4 of the way through the Baptism records for this period.
His mother was Juana Carlos based on his marriage record to Maria Phelipa de Herrera on 31Aug1756 in Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman. His father's name was not recorded on his marriage record.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JZXT-PVW

I have found 4 daughters - Rita, Fr.Xaviera,Laurena Rosalia, Ysabel...one, possibly two sons - Diego Josef and/or Diego Carlos.

On 06Apr1761 he was a witness at the marriage of my 4th GGF
Marcelino de los Santos Herrera y Agustina Dorotea Sanchez.

He is my only clue to my unknown 3rd Great Grandfather.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Saludos,
Roy

Medina Surname

Although I don't have the Medina surname in my tree, I have also been curious about it because the name is common in northwestern Durango. I have various books about northern Mexico in the 1600/1700's, and information about early settlers with that surname has never turned up.With the Inquisition being a powerful institution in Mexico in the 1600-1700's, it seems a name like Medina would have aroused suspicion of a non-Christian background. Maybe a search on the Pares website will turn up some clues.

Medina Origin

Hello Nuestros Ranchos members, I have a general question. I want to know where the Medina family comes from. I have noticed, after researching my Medina family, that in Zacatecas there is a very high population of people with that last name. I have gone through several records for Rio Grande Zacatecas where my family is from and other locations and after spending a small amount of time flipping through the records I found a high volume of people with that last name.

Hello,

My great-grandfather was Emigdio Medina. In the 1880's he resided in El
Paso del Norte and antagonized the USA in the famous Cutting Case. He did
marry a woman in the Orendain familiy beforehand, but I think they met in
California, USA.

Well, the name originally is Arabic.  I found one of many references but
chose this one to peruse--just a start:

familia Castaneda Flores

I am stuck on my great great grandfather Manuel Castaneda. My great grandfather's birth record from Moyahua, Zacatecas (Hiliario de Jesus Castaneda) lists Rafael Castaneda and Simona Flores as paternal grandparents but I have not been able to find their birth or marriage records or for Hilario's father, Manuel Castaneda. I do know that Manuel Castaneda was married to Secundina Yniguez, but do not know when or where. I have found one record that leads me to believe they may have come from Juchipila, but I can't be certain this is correct. Is anyone else out there looking into these names???

Parents of Maria de la Merced Tiscareno

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for information on the parents of my 7th Great Grandmother Maria de la Merced Tiscareno. I'm not sure where or when Maria was born, but she married my 7th Great Grandfather Raphael Antonio de Cuellar on 12 May 1777 in Aguascalientes, so she was probably born around 1760. On the marriage certificate her parents are listed as Juan Joseph de Tiscareno and Maria Theresa de Altuna. They would've probably been born in the 1730s in the Aguascalientes area. I'm unable to find any information on them other than a baptism of one of their children. Any information on Juan Joseph de Tiscareno and Maria Theresa de Altuna or their parents would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Primary source on Francisca Gauadi (Gabay)

Hello

I was going through baptisms for 1616 to 1662,Sagrario Aguascalientes AG, and I came across a reference to Francisca Gauadi as the madrina for a child born to Maria Siordia and Luis de Medina. The padrino is named as Martin Ruiz de Esparza "su hijo". They are both described as "vecinos de esta villa" The date is 3 Aug 1617 and I was wondering if anyone has an earlier reference to Francisca Gabay placing her in Aguascalientes.

All I could make out were the first four letters (Tete.....). I couldn't be sure about the others. I even compared the word with the Cubas book, but I didn't see anything promising.  Good luck!

Francisco Romo child of Juan Romo and Maria Gabai

Hello

I came across an indexed record of birth for a Francisco Romo, espl., son of Jn Romo and Maria Gabai. When I went to the record, I saw that the madrina was Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza. I think that Maria Gabai was her daughter. As the Gedcom turned up no hits for a Francisco Romo born in 1659, I thought I would post it here, and ask the forum if Maria Tiscarino de Molina has in other documents been referred to as Maria Gabai.

Here is the link:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11824-52310-14?cc=1502404&…

it's the last entry on the right hand page.

Here is the citation:

Would someone like to have a go at reading a word in this document?

I can read all but the name of the town in this document; can someone fill in the missing word? "... Domingo Gerrero [Guerrero] español originario, y vesino de la siudad de __?__ del Reino de la Nueva España ...".

I should be most grateful. I'm not going to prejudice anyone by posting my guess as to what this name might be.

Best wishes,

Hello all:
I have been reading the Church Records from Guerrero, Coahuila and came across a term I have not seen before and for which I do not know the colloquial meaning. I can't seem to find a definition online.
The baptism records are from late 1780s to 1820. The term is "havidos por españoles." It is found in several records and is used in reference to the racial status of parents. I assumed it was supposed to be "habidos por Españoles," literally "had by Spaniards," but I still don't get it in this context. Maybe a term indicating Spanish (European) descent of indeterminate nature? I've asked a couple of people I know, but nobody can tell me what is meant in this usage. Can anybody shed some light on the terminology for me?
Thanks, all

Diego Nabarro - Ocotlan - Dec 1648 marriage of Diego Peres and Geronima Garcia

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18684-23858-66?cc=1874591&wc…

In looking at the record above. Right side page, last two records.

I am related to the married couple - Diego Peres and Geronima Garcia through my maternal grandmother's line.

Can anyone decifer or tell me if the parents of Geronima were slaves of Diego Nabarro?

I can make out that Diego Peres was raised by Nabarro, but on the sixth line of the record it begins with "...Daniel de Prado obispo de michoacan con geronima garcia, hija de lorenso garcia i de ana guillen, mestizos, esclabos de diego nabarro..."

Am I reading this right?

Thanks for the help.

Dear Primos and Friends . . .

Wishing you all hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Somos Primos is going to make a slight shift of focus, away from current social confusion, to remembering the past. With so many elderly whose stories have not been told, let me encourage each of you to gather, record, and share the histories of the senior generations of your family.

Even if your ancestors lived quiet lives and assumed no leadership roles in the community, they cared for and affected you and should be honored for their role in your life. What were their strengths, their weaknesses. What did you learn and pass on to your children, or did you?
Maybe you have not analyzed your life yet . . maybe it is time.
Here are two story starters:
1) A healing that I remember at the hands of my grandmother was . . .
2) During Easter Sunday we always used to . . . .
Please share . . . . warm regards, Mimi

Sermeño-Ornelas Puzzle

The line I am researching is documented back to Antonio Sermeño (bap. 17 Feb 1679, Santa María de los Lagos), who married Augustina Magaña, 22 Jun 1711 in Jalos. Antonio Sermeño is the son of Juan Sermeño and María de Ornelas (from his marriage record: "... Anttº Sermeño español ... hijo Legº de Juan Sermeño difunto, y de Maria de Ornelas ..."); Juan and María are my current dead-end.

Does anyone have documented information about Juan Sermeño and María de Ornelas, including dates of birth, death, and/or marriage? Antonio Sermeño has at least one documented sibling, Eleutheria, who was baptized 03 Apr 1681 in Lagos.

Saludos,
Lawrence Bouett
Orinda, CA

Andrés Magaña casado con Ana Ramires de Hermosillo

Does anyone have any further information about the above-captioned couple? They had at least six documented children, including Augustina (ca. 1683), Rosa María (bau. 21 Feb 1696), Petrona (nac. 10 Oct 1698), Francisca Efigenia (bau. 19 Jul 1704), Joseph Manuel (bau. 23 Oct 1706), and María Beatrís (bau. 15 Dec 1708). They were both living as of 22 Jun 1711, when Augustina married Antonio Sermeño in Jalostotitlán. These birth and baptism dates are about at the date limit of the images of the online registers at FamilySearch.org.

Also, I am trying to determine the time sequence of place names at that time. Rosa María and Petrona show "Nuestra Señora de San Juan" as their place of birth, while the others show "del Saus, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción". Both are in Jalos, and I think it it likely that they are the same place; but the historian in me would like to know for sure, and I haven't yet been able to find anything definitive.

Best wishes,
Lawrence Bouett
