Research Digest, Vol 89, Issue 13

Hello, Everyone!

Can someone give information or contacts with people doing research on the Tamez/Tames families from Nuevo Leon?
I understand some books about the last name have been published but cannot locate any of them. Can anyone point me in the right direction here as I have no publisher or name of authors but have only heard about the books existing.

Also, does anyone know for sure the origin of the last name? So far all I have found says its either Jewish or Arabic.

Hoping to get a response,

Elvira

Marriage Record for Jose Maria Roman and Ygnacia Orosco in Jerez 1794

Hello,
I have found the marriage record for my 4th Great Grandfather, Jose (Baptism name is Joseph) Maria Roman and his wife Ygnacia de Orosco. I am getting a tad bit better with reading baptism records but marriage records are a whole new world. If I am understanding this correctly, it says that his parents, father-Bernardo, and mother Ysavel is deceased by the time of this marriage, or just his mother is. And that Jose is from San Juan?
I do not understand much on this record and any help will help a great deal.

Thank you so very much in advance!

Here is the link to family search. The entry is on the bottom of the left page and it carries up to the top of the right page.

Y-DNA 37 for Surnames Macias and Guerra

I am looking for other people with the surnames of Macias and Guerra with or without documentation to take a Y-DNA 37 marker test in order to find matches. I have learned I descend from Alonso Guerra Valadez the son of Mateo Macías Valadez according to documentation. Y-DNA matches can help us prove lineages.

This is very exciting, so I hope some of you may be interested. Feel free to email if you have any questions.

Need help finding Gabriel Torres & Maria Jacova Guerra

Hello,
I need help in finding my great grandparents Gabriel Torres and Maria Jacova Guerra. My grandfather Santiago Torres always said he was from Matanzas, Jalisco. After much research I was able to find his baptismal record in Lagos de Moreno baptismal records. The record says that his parents, Gabriel Torres and Maria Jacova Guerra were residents of Rancho Nuevo, Jalisco and that they registered his birth in the Hacienda Cienega de Mata. (See bap. record translation below)
Isn't Rancho Nuevo close to Teocaltiche? If yes, then why would they have baptised him in Lagos de Moreno?

I have tried searching for his parents birth records based on their reported ages in family search but haven't been successful. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what municipalities I can search? Any other suggestions? I have hit a brick wall with my grandfather's side of the family.

Thank you, Arlene Torres

Hernando de Torres Espitia y Juana Vásquez Macías

I had posted the following on February 24, 2012 -

"I also descend from Espitia/Aspitia. I finally understand why my ancestors
used so many surnames. Nicolás Macias Espitia and Ana Muñoz had children in
Lagos de Moreno between 1645 and 1664. Sometimes they used the surname
Torres. After looking at records in Aguascalientes I see Hernando de Torres
Espitia married Juana Vásquez Macias alias Juana Vásquez de Retamosa 11 Jan
1615 in Aguascalientes film 299421. This makes me think that my ancestor
was their son Nicolás Torres Vásquez baptized 2 May 1622 film 299421."

The following is an email I had sitting in my drafts for more than a year
but edited today -

I have been looking at the marriage record of Hernando de Torres and Juana
Vasquez Macias, alias Juana Vásquez de Retamosa, and the baptisms of their
children. Most of the padrinos and testigos are from the Macías Valadez
family and the Ramirez de Tavera y de la Torre family. This makes me think
the father of Juana Vásquez Macias was the Felipe Macias Valadez that
married María Tavera, the daughter of Nicolás Ramirez de Tavera and
Apolonia de la Torre, on 1 July 1618. Since Juana married in 1615 it means
that the mother of Juana was someone other than María Tavera. However it
seems the Ramírez de Tavera y de la Torre family

For the wedding Francisco Macías, who I believe to be was the husband of
Jacinta de Ortega and many think to be the son of Alonso Macías Valadez and
María de Retamosa, as a testigo. For the velación the padrinos were Gaspar
Macías and Mariana Torres, the daughter of Nicolás Ramirez de Tavera and
Apolonia de la Torre and sister of María Tavera. (Gaspar Macías is thought
to be a son of Alonso Macías Valadez and María de Retamosa. In which case
he would be a brother of Felipe Macías Valadez the husband of María Tavera)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11824-50852-3?cc=1410092&w…

For the baptism of Magdalena Torres Vásquez de Retamosa the padrinos were
Diego [Alonso] Ramírez [del Pedroso y Hermosillo] y su hermana (in reality
they were cuñados) Francisca de Torres (another daughter of Nicolás Ramirez
de Tavera and Apolonia de la Torre and sister of María Tavera)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11824-51657-98?cc=1410092&…

For the baptism of Juan de Torres Macías the padrino was Antonio Tavera a
son of Nicolás Ramirez de Tavera and Apolonia de la Torre and brother of
María Tavera.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11824-51177-21?cc=1410092&…

Therefore, I believe, the padrinos of the baptisms of these children were
in a sense great uncles since their sister or sister in law had married,
who I think to be the grandfather of the children, Felipe Macias Valadez y
Vásquez de Retamosa the son of Alonso Macías Valdez and María Vásquez de
Retamosa. Also note that the wife of Hernando de Torres Espitia used both
the Macias surname as well as the Vásquez and Retamosa surnames meaning
that it is extremely likely that she descends from Alonso Macías Valadez
and María Vásquez de Retamosa meaning her father was probably their son and
since her father was named Felipe Macías Valadez and he was a son of Alonso
Macías Valadez and María Vásquez de Retamosa they should be the same person
and with the Ramírez de Tavera y de la Torre having been padrinos this
makes it even more believable.

Saludos,
Armando

Baptisms in Aguascalientes

Hi,
For the past 5 years I have put in countless but unsuccessful hours searching for the baptismal records of 2 aunts. Today my cousin told me that she was told that they were baptized in a "fort" in Aguascalientes. Does anyone know of a place that fits this description? What type of records would I look for?
Thank you!

Joseph,

The films corresponding to the parish of La Asunción de María (also known as
El Sagrario) are available online under the city of Aguascalientes. The link

Thank you Nuestros Ranchos

Hello everybody,
I just wanted to give a big shout out to this site and to my primo here who helped me set up my account. If it wasn't for him and everyone on this site, I wouldn't have been able to get so far with my research.
As a non-Spanish speaker, researching has been a bit difficult. So I just wanted to thank everyone who has been so generous and kind.
I love this site and am always referring back here, to either search the archives for past forum discussions for topics that relates to things I am currently looking for or for new topics that are currently being discussed.

So anyways, thanks again everyone!

Kristine

El Sagrario, Aguascalientes film offline at FamilySearch?

Maybe I've been asleep at the wheel, missed an issue or two here, or something. Can someone tell me when and why the FamilySearch.org site took the online copy of their microfilm records for Aguascalientes' church El Sagrario off line? I have 300 years (or more) of family in that church and it's now back to microfilm access only.

So frustrating to have to go back to the microfilm and nights at the local FHS (not to mention paying for more film transport) after this wonderful access.

Thanks!
Annette
(That will teach me to focus on other areas of the family tree for too long!)

Sacerdocio

Estimados Miembros,

Muchas gracias!

Sergio
