Also go on the PARES website and do a search for "Flota de Nueva España."
Click on "Casa de la Contratación" and you should find a list with the title
"Registro de navio: (name of the ship will be listed). Click on any of the
ships in the list and you will find details. In some cases documents have
been digitized and can be viewed. You can also do searches for "Lista de
pasajeros" for any particular ship in a fleet. Try filtering your searches
for dates of sailings using the above book as a guide for those years.

I am trying to locate an archive of the names of spanish galleons that
sailed to Mexico during the colonial period.
I know that the term "Flota de Indias" was referred to the Spanish
galleons.
While I was trying to find it, I ran across an interesting Capitan name
Blas de Lezo who was a Capitan of Spanish Armada and was known as one of the
best naval strategic capitans of the Spanish Armada:

Dear Friends and Family:
I have exciting news to share about the National Museum of the Latino Community. A featured session which I attended at the 2013 NCLR conference in New Orleans was entitled: The Making of America: Untold Stores from American Latino History. The panel was assembled under the auspices of the PBS Project, Latino Americans, a three-part, six-hour documentary series set to air nationally in the fall.
Description of the panel:
Despite a 500-year presence in North America, Latino culture, heritage, and history are severely underrepresented in educational curriculum, historic landmarks, and cultural institutions. National groups are working intently to uncover, document, and bring forward the many contributions that Hispanic Americans have made to this country since its formation.
Since most Latino activism has focused on issues of education, employment, medical needs, immigration, etc.it was of particular interest to note attention being paid to our history. The main topic which kept repeating itself throughout the panel discussion was the need for public family stories written from the Latino perspective.
Estuardo Rodriguez and Maria Cardona, both members of the Friends of the American Latino Museum, and Eduardo Diaz, Executive Director of the Smithsonian Latino Center pleaded for personal family stories to be written and shared.
Since I had already decided that in 2014, Somos Primos was going to move towards an even more heavy emphasis on personal and family histories, I was delighted.
I hope all of us can support the National Museum of the Latino Community by starting now to collect, compile, write or record our memories The Smithsonian wants YOUR memories in preparation for the Museum's projected archives.
Let me recommend a system which got me started writing my personal stories, First Writes, based on slotting sentences. Go to the Somos Primos website and scroll down to Write Your Own Personal History with First Writes.
Naturally Somos Primos wants your cuentos too.
Your experiences matter . .
Your perspective matters . .
Your stories matter . .

Sincerely, Mimi

Old Map of Xerez, Zacatecas, Mexico 1772 and María Emerenciancia de la Torre painting
I was reading a blog:
http://www.miguelberumen.blogspot.com/
Which talks about history of Villa de Xerez and has a map of the year 1772:
http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/594/n2kx.jpg
Also talks about the migration of the Berumen family to Zacatecas, Mexico?
And in the blog it mentions that in Villa de Xerex around the year 1802, there was a very beautiful woman named: María Emerenciancia de la Torre who has pretty green eys and long hair and this is painting of her:
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9268/avjb.jpg
Help in Zacoalco de Torres
Hi, Everyone,
I am tracing my ancestry back in Zacoalco de Torres through the 1800s and I got stuck on my great-great-great-grandparents. Here is what I have:
Jose Santos Reynaga b. Abt 1864 m. Cristina Frias b. Abt. 1864
-Maria Concepcion Reynaga b. 21 May 1884, Zacoalco m. Crispiniano Toribio b. Abt 1871, Zacoalco
+Victoria Toribio Reynaga de Ruiz b. 5 Sep1904, Zacoalco
+Jose Alfonso Toribio Reynaga b. 14 Aug 1906, Zacoalco
I need to find parents for both Jose Santos Reynaga and Cristina Frias. I can't find any record of their births or marriage. I've searched many volumes of records from Zacoalco. I do not know if they were born in Zacoalco. I checked the hijos naturales, as well, and still had no luck. There are a few other people across Mexico with similar names, but I am just lost on how to find the next generation back. I estimated their DOB based on their child's DOB.
Also, I can't find a birth or baptism record for Maria Concepcion Reynaga. I found her DOB on her immigration record when she came up to California to visit her daughter Victoria. She lived in Tijuana for a time with Jose Alfonso.
Do any of you have these people in your tree? Can you help me find their records?
Thank you!

Huizar, Flores and Salamanca
Hi, My name is Rich and I am trying to research my heritage. I have been
able to compile some data, but have come to a stop. Any suggestions is
appreciated, below is what I have found so far.
My Father was Jose de Jesus Huizar born abt 1905 and believe came to the US
in 1925. His sisters were Sostenes Huizar unknown birth, Josefina Huizar
born 1910 and Amalia Huizar born 1912, all being from Colotlan, Jalisco,
Mexico.
I believe their parents were Apolonio Huizar born abt 1874 and Ma Cruz
Flores born abt 1881. I believe Apolonio had a brother named Ygnacio Huizar
which was born abt 1887 (my uncle).
I have found paperwork showing Ynacio's parents were Luis Huizar and
Francisca Salamanca, which would make them my great grandparents. I found
documents showing they were married in San Luis, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico
on Feb 1, 1871. I also found documents showing maybe they had a daughter
named Domitila Huizar which was christened in June of 1879 in San Luis
Obispo, Colotlan, Jalisco, Mexico.
I have not been able to locate birth certificates or death certificates to
confirm any of this yet.
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help, Rich

Surnames/Apellidos
I have found a baptism record that lists the father as Ramon Becerra, and the paternal grandparents as Alejandro Becerra and Aurelia Garcia. However, on a military document, Ramon is listed as Ramon Becerra Franco. Is it likely that he's Ramon Becerra Franco Garcia, and the "Franco" was part of his father's surname? I'm having difficulty finding any additional documents about Ramon or his parents.

I can't read much of this, I'd appreciate some help.

Gabay or Gabai: origin of surname
Has anyone been able to find from which side of the family did Ana Francisca and Maria Gabay got their surname? I have tried to find that surname among Spanish surnames with little success. However, I have found that Gabay or Gabai is a Jewish surname. Further I learned that Gabay is a person that performs duties similar to an usher. Here is a description:
"In Judaism, a person who helps to organize the running of a synagogue service; one or more gabai may be involved. Duties include welcoming visitors, ensuring that everyone has a siddur (prayer book), organizing the seating arrangements, and choosing the congregants who will open the ark or read from the Torah. The gabai will also ensure that the wine is present for the kiddush, a prayer recited over wine before it is shared by the congregation."
Any ideas?

EXISTE ALGUN DOCUMENTO DONDE SE PUEDA PROBAR SI JUAN HERNANDEZ DESCIENDE DE LOS HERNANDEZ GAMINO?
YO DESCIENDO DE JUAN HERNANDEZ Y DE ANA DOMINGUEZ DE LOS INOJOS HIJA DEL CAPITAN PEDRO ALONSO DE LOS INOJOS Y DE ANA DOMINGUEZ (BAUT 1639) AGUASCALIENTES
