Any suggestions?

Hello everyone , sorry i haven't been on here much anymore. We lost my grandmother to cancer In October and had lots of things going on and didnt do too much genealogical work. Anyhow, I finally downloaded a family tree program and put in 1129 relatives BUT, I've wanted to make it public for all my relatives to see. This particular website wants to charge me money to publish the tree?? Anyone want to recommend anywhere I can publish a family tree for free or even somewhere I can make a family site? Thank you very much, Lorenzo Carrillo.

CALVILLO, PONCE, MASIAS, VASQUES MERCADO

While catching up with older postings I came across Christopher's query about the above names, which are all in my line. Here's two more children to add to the family of Francisco Xavier CALVILLO and Maria Micaela MASIAS:

1. Joseph Raphael CALBILLO, c. 1761, wife Maria Josepha MERCADO Gamboa.
She might also be VASQUES del MERCADO?

Child: Jose Miguel CALVILLO, bap 11 May 1803 [name taken from old notes, I'm unable to relocate image #, but entry was from Ags Ags Sag. Film is very out of order.]

2. Maria Gertrudis CALBILLO Masias, born c. 1755, spouse Juan VASQUES-MERCADO Lopes-De Nava, aka Juan MERCADO, born c. 1748

Children:
Maria Victoriana Dolores MERCADO (spouse Joseph Lucas RUIZ ESPARZA)
Maria Gabriela MERCADO ( Joseph Vicente RANGEL)
Joseph Manuel Asencio VASQUES-MERCADO Calvillo (Ma. Dorotea CASTAÑEDA)
Maria Josepha MERCADO (bap 8 Feb 1787; Mex CCrec Ags Ags Sag Bau 1785-1788, Image 163)

----

An interesting fact about Juan Nepomuceno VASQUES-MERCADO Lopes-De Nava: When he and Ma. Gertrudis CALBILLO were married 15 Feb 1770 (Mex CCRec Ags Ags Sag Mat 1765-1767, Image 99), she was 15, he was 22, and he was already twice a widower.

His first wife, Maria Buenaventura RODRIGUES Contreras, and Juan were married 27 Apr 1767 (Mex CCRec Ags Ags Sag Mat 1765-1767, Image 99).

About three months after her death, Juan married his second wife, Maria Fabiana ESPARZA Alonso, while she was on her deathbed, 8 Apr 1769; she died two days after their marriage. (Mex CCRec Ags Ags Sag Mat 1767-1771, Image 96). About 8 months later he married Ma. Gertrudis CALBILLO.

If anyone learns more about Francisco Xavier CALBILLO I hope they pass it along to our group. I wonder if he might be part of the difficult and elusive MARTINES-CALBILLO family?

Hope someone finds this additional information useful.

Who's Stuck? Who Doesn't Know Where To Start?

Are you stuck? Are you wondering where to start? Well one good place would be to ask your questions on the research@nuestrosranchos.org list. We might not be able to help but we'll try.

If you are just starting out in genealogy then you need to familiarize yourself with your local Family History Center. Your local FHC is part of the LDS church and is an absolute goldmine of information for Mexican Genealogy and other locations around the world. Go to www.familysearch.org to find your closest location with the best hours to fit your schedule: go to the site and click on "Library" and "Family History Centers" to find your location. Give them a call and pay them a visit. Ask questions about how the center works.

If you know your specific location then go to the familysearch.org site and do a "place search." go to the site and click on "Library" and then on "Family History LIbrary Catalog" and then click on "Place Search" [Note if your location doesn't come up in the results maybe it was too small to support a church in earlier times. In cases like that then go to one of the online maps - Expedia.com is one I use - and see if you can find your location. Then slowly start entering in the towns closest to your location in the "Place Search." Keep doing that until you find a location that gives you some results from the "Place Search."

Once you've found a location you should see something like this:

Place
México, Zacatecas, Sombrerete

Topics
México, Zacatecas, Sombrerete - Census
México, Zacatecas, Sombrerete - Church records
México, Zacatecas, Sombrerete - Civil registration

© 2002 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.

---------------------

then you would click on the live links for each to familarize yourself with which films are available.

Under "Church records" you'll see something like this with the film numbers you can then order from your local family history center [note: you can only view the films at the FHC as they cannot be removed from the building]:

Topic
México, Zacatecas, Sombrerete - Church records

Titles
Registros parroquiales, 1678-1940 / Iglesia Católica. San Juan Bautista (Sombrerete, Zacatecas)

and if you click on this you'll see the following [note: to see it like this you'll need to click on "See Film Notes" at the top. If you see a film that might be when your relatives lived in that area then that would be the one you would order at the Family History Center:

Title

Does anyone know the place of birth of Diego Gonzalez Hermosillo?

I have two dates of birth 1) 1486 and the other 1525? It may possibly be a father and son situation. I have accessed Google, Red de Antepasados, GeneaNet, etc. and have not found any info on them. Would someone let me know if they have anything on them---I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Urzúa, López, Díaz, Martínez

Buenas Noches:

Primero que nada les agradezco que me hayan permitido pertenecer a este interesante grupo de investigación genealogía de las áreas mas bonitas de nuestro país. Dice mi padre;

Hola Armando and Members ,Back in the 15 of march ,2012 I was inquiring about Jose Munoz de Nava married to Micaela Gomez de Mendoza. I don't remember if I answered you about Jose Munoz de Nava being the son of Francisco Munoz de Nava and Leonor Ramirez de Hermosillo. I found a dispensa film# 168374 -year 1743-1754 page # 88 for Antonio Munoz (son of Jose Munoz de Nava and Micaela Gomez de Mendoza) and Paula Gertrudis Garcia de Hermosillo. Its states that Leonor Ramirez de Hermosillo gave birth/procreated Joseph Munoz de Nava. So far this is the only proof I found.

Help in Teocaltiche

Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether anyone could help me in locating information on Juan de Medina and Maria Gaitan from Teocaltiche around 1675. I found a baptism record for a child of theirs in 1678 and 1691, both in Teocaltiche, but, I can't seem to find any marriage info or any other information on them. Any information that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much everyone.

Longoria Family from Northern Mexico

Joseph,

Raul Longoria's website really is a great genealogy site. I have one line
of de la Garza's that I had traced to the early 1700's in San Luis Potosi,
and fortunately for me, it tied to one of Raul Longoria's de la Garza's
lines. I e-mailed Raul and he was able to point me to the documents I
needed to expand my tree by 5-7 generations. This line connects back to the
early Spanish families of Nuevo Leon.

Aguilera

Hi, I am Christie. I have been doing my family genealogy for the last several years. I majority of my family roots are out of Nuevo Leon (Trevino, de la Garza, Montemayor, etc..) if anyone is needing any direction in that area, please feel free to contact me.

My Current project is for an Uncle. His parents never spoke of their families that they had left in Mexico when they came to the states. I had very little to work with. Fortunately, I have found quite a bit on his paternal line thus far.

I am however 'stalled" on JOSE AGUILERA who married ANNA MARIA DE CHAVEZ. I have found 4 records containg their names:

1. Juana Maria Aguilera (baptized 4/22/1738 Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco; died UNKNOWN)

2. Ygnacia Gertrudis Rosalia Aguilera (baptized 2/3/1743 Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco; died UNKNOWN)

3. (Marriage Record) Manuela Aguilera (baptized UNKNOWN; died UNKNOWN) She married Domingo Queseda (born UNKNOWN; died UNKNOWN) on 4/12/1758 Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco; son of Joseph Queseda & Antonia Gutierrez

4. **Juan Joseph Aguilera (baptized UNKNOWN; died UNKNOWN) He married Maria Antonia Esqueda (baptized 7/29/1738 Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco; died 11/29/1769 Teocaltiche, Jalisco) on 9/27/1758 Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores, Teocaltiche, Jalisco; daughter of Xavier Esqueda & Anna Maria de Carvajal

I have gone thru the Teocaltiche & Aguascalientes Church records. These records are all that I have found (am I over looking??) Is there maybe another Parish I should search in that might contain more records? According to the they were residents of San Marcos.

ANY help will be appreciated!!

Thank You!!

A word on 'Ownership' and 'Privacy' - and how technology is shattering some very old views

Hello all--

I don't chime in here often with postings, as I am dedicating most of my genealogy time to researching, editing and managing the GuadalajaraDispensas.com blog as I grow my family tree, but I find it much beyond my control not to respond to the recent postings implying piracy of genealogical data (again).

As some of you have experienced--the index project at GuadalajaraDispensas.com is an invaluable tool for anyone conducting family history in many areas of Mexico--useful to the novice and advanced alike.

I started the above-mentioned indexing as a 'personal research project,' and I kept copious notes on my laptop as I viewed hundreds of images at Familysearch.org. Then, an awful thing happened--I lost ALL OF MY NOTES...dozens of hours of work...lost to a computer failure. Yes, my 'personal and private' work was lost forever and I would have to work harder and longer now for the same list of names that I had already compiled.

That experience prompted me to keep my notes 'on the cloud,' so to speak, and so an idea was born. Why not publish my findings on the Internet so I will never lose them again? And a RADICAL THOUGHT entered my mind: Why not share my indices so that others can find their ancestors. My logic was not motivated by altruism, but by a genuine desire to collaborate.

I predicted that if someone else advanced THEIR tree...when they did, they would post their findings at nuestrosranchos.org and share their info...and THAT NEW INFO shared would complete another puzzle for me, or for someone else who would then also collaborate, and thus I would have new info to advance MY TREE. I envisioned a Win-Win-Win scenario all-around. And it has been just so.

Although not a perfectly polished site--the GuadalajaraDispensas.com would have a permanent home online, available to be viewed by ANYONE AND EVERYONE who had Internet access. FOR FREE.

I worked on this project for months--alone. Then, one day, a member of Nuestros Ranchos offered to assist in the indexing work. I never requested volunteers. I never asked anyone to do any indexing on my behalf. Then, a second person came forward...then a third...and then a fourth.

To date, we have had a total of TEN (10) volunteers doing indexing of Dispensa documents for everyone's consumption. How many of your brick walls would still be up if it were not for the generosity of these volunteers?

As some of you may relate, there is a frustration that builds after knowing that so many others before us have already searched through these SAME thousands of documents and have the capacity to share their knowledge--but either don't share, or have published obscure works that nobody has access to due to limited publication. This idea compelled me to compare the differences between the modern researcher versus a researcher twenty or thirty years ago.

Yes, in Mexico twenty or thirty years ago, only some very few people had access to the records most of the World population of Mexican descent now can view easily online. Twenty or thirty years ago, it cost a researcher in Mexico much more time and money to assemble a family tree of only maybe four or five generations than it costs anyone nowadays. I see how this disparity has perhaps fueled a sense of ownership in some older researchers.

Individuals in Mexico who have had the privilege to view and possess original documents and family heirlooms should consider themselves fortunate--but not unparalleled. You see, Technology has evened the score for the rest of us.

I understand how some who are stuck in the old paradigm feel a sense of being robbed, and all I can say is that we are living in the year 2013. Get with the program. You do not own anything and no one is stealing from you, or robbing you of anything. [I am speaking of information on ancestors who lived 100 years ago or more.] Information technology is advancing at such a rapid rate, that in a few years' time, in terms of genealogy, most of the developed World will have access to their 'personal' family tree going back many-many generations--without doing a minute of research themselves. Get with the program or just don’t participate in any forums like NuestrosRanchos or anywhere else on the Internet. You won’t be much missed.

I recall a comment that was posted here by a respected Mexican researcher. He said that (and I am paraphrasing)...there were some genealogists who work without any purpose--these are the ones who assemble projects of general utility for the community as a whole--but that, although meritorious, they 'have no grace.' I believe he was directing that comment at me, as he was responding to a post I wrote dealing with the issue of Genealogy and piracy.

Now let us define 'Grace.' Grace is: elegance or refinement. I am sure most of you will agree that our GuadalajaraDispensas.com volunteers are all the epitome of Grace, in the complete definition of the word when compared to those who hoard their supposedly personal information and heirlooms.

My humble opinion.

Dear Primos and Friends:
Hope that you are all dealing well with the changes that are sweeping across the
country. It is comforting to see much effort and many moves towards bi-partisan
solutions.

Under the United States you will see a beautiful painting "Mending the Nation"
by John McNaughton answering what will it take to mend and rebuild America?
Each family member featured in the painting represents a different
value: courage, family, hope, faith, and love. McNaughton says those five are
the keys to rebuilding America: "Each value is required to make it work. Remove
one and the whole system fails."

Research Digest, Vol 84, Issue 12

With many stories they can get jumbled through the generations. My father's aunt married into the de Alba family from San Juan, so I have done a little research. I have a Jose Teodoro de Alba baptized 02 Apr 1854 in San Juan whose parents were Gabino & Inez de Alba. Gabino's mother was a Gonzales: Ma Dolores Gonzales. His father was Ramon de Alba, so there still may be some truth to the story. In my research as I told Steve, some stories turn out to be true, and some not so true. :)
