SAN MATIAS SIERRA DE PINOS Matrimonios 1614-1647

Hola prim@s,

These are transcriptions of photocopies of the original books, that were provided by Mary Lou Montagna. I have included nearly all of the entries, minus those that were illegible. There are some missing years/ faltan algunos años: 1617, 1624, 1625, 1629, 1632, 1633, 1636.

This volume includes:
Matrimonios 1614-1626
Matrimonios 1627-1647

Abbreviations used:
pp=padrinos
tt=testigos

Orthography

As this is a transcription, I’ve attempted to stay true to what I see written. This means using the abbreviations of names used during that era. Most of it is intuitive: “Juo” for “Juan,” “Frnco” for “Francisco,” “Ma” for “Maria,” etc.

!Feliz Navidad!

Marcos de Aleman

Can anyone help decipher the name of Juana Petra Robledo's first husband. It looks like Juan de Dios Arangues. Thanks!

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6LMZ-WK7

I had this Marcos de Aleman 6x grandfather married to Maria Velasco y Pena (Maria Pena) no marriage record.

Second Marriage to Agueda de Coronado (6x great aunt) No marriage record.

I recently found that he remarried in Durango. If the same person he marries well into his 60+ years!

I am now trying to confirm it is the same Marcos married to all three though his 3rd marriage does state he was married to Agueda Coronado.

Las Fiestas de Teocaltiche - La Virgen de los Dolores

I was in Teocaltiche, Jalisco last month for Las Fiestas and I fell in love with the spirit of people. It was magical. The festivities were awesome and of course "la Catedral" was AMAZING. One of the most memorable event was the processions into the church with "las bandas" playing "las mananitas" to the virgen. I will be back next year. Que viva Mexico.

He was an Oidor of the Real Audencia Government of Guadalajara (Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico) that had jurisdiccion over several provinces including Texas.

He married the youngest daughter of Conde of Hacienda de San Mateo of Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico - Don Fernando De La Campa y Cos. They had married in 1724 in the Ciudad de Zacatecas.

Ascendencia de Gaspar Martin Barragan

Saludos Primos y Primas,

In another thread (Question regarding the Mollinedo and Villasenor line.), among other things, we discussed the family of Gaspar Martin Barragan and how we don't know what branch of the Martin Barragans he belongs to. Here's what the family looks like:

Gaspar Martin Barragan cc Teresa de Torres y Maciel

  • Maria Manuela Barragan cc Eduardo Francisco Cobian, married in Tamazula 2/9/1755
  • Jose Francisco Barragan cc Aurelia Gertrudis Ortiz de Zarate, married in Tamazula 5/4/1756
  • Vicente Barragan cc Ana Josefa Petra de Cobian, married in: Tamazula 7/11/1757
  • Antonia Barragan cc Miguel de Villasenor y Jaso, married in Tamazula 2/7/1762

  • Based on the info above and baptismal records, this family moved around Tamazula, Zapotlan el Grande, and Tizapan el Alto. The question is who were the parents of Gaspar Martin Barragan and Teresa de Torres y Maciel? The answer lies in the documents related to a capellania that was founded by Juan Martin Barragan, an uncle of Gaspar Martin Barragan. Here's the link to that capellania:

Capellania fundada por Juan Martin Barragan

The capellania is a treasure-trove of information for this family. In it we learn that Juan Martin Barragan, Gaspar's uncle, used to own La Hacienda de San Diego de Zitala, that he bought directly from Diego de Villasenor Bocanegra for the amount of 10,000 pesos.

We also learn that the parents of Gaspar Martin Barragan were:

Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Sanchez Banales (Daughter of Juan Sanchez Banales cc Catalina de Alcaraz)

We also discover that the parents of Teresa de Torres y Maciel were:

Sebastian de Torres cc Francisca Maciel

The question now is, who was Diego Martin Barragan that married Antonia Sanchez Banales?

For now, I don't have an answer. However, here are some clues:

  • We know that Antonia Sanchez Banales was baptized in Tamazula on 7/20/1687.

  • We know that there were at least two Martin Barragan families in Tamazula around the same time-frame as the Sanchez Banales, circa 1680-1720s, Juan Martin Barragan cc Micaela Balbuena and Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Mendez de Torres

  • Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Mendez de Torres can't be the father of Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Sanchez Banales because he already had another son name Diego who married Efigenia de Ochoa and had children around the same time as Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Sanchez Banales, nor did he remarry as Efigenia de Ochoa lived long after Gaspar Martin Barragan was born.

  • We know that whoever fathered Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Sanchez Banales, also had to have fathered Juan Martin Barragan cc Maria de la Parra.

  • The above clues might point to Juan Martin Barragan cc Micaela Balbuena as the possible father of Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Sanchez Banales, the timeline works. However, there's no proof that I've found of this. I'll keep looking, but, I wanted to see if anyone else has any clues as to who fathered Diego Martin Barragan cc Antonia Sanchez Banales and Juan Martin Barragan cc Maria de la Parra.

    Thanks,

    Daniel Serna Valencia

Lagos de Morenos and The Tale of Two Brothers

I recently spoke to my dad’s tia who was born in 1930. She has been a valuable source of family history for me. Several of her stories have been spot on to the date. In talking she told me about two brothers who came to Mexico after the war. One stayed in Lagos de Morenos and had three wives and children. The other brother, Manuel Ocampo?, left and married a women in Altolinga before settling in Los Velas. She died shortly after giving birth to their son. Manuel is the one who flourished our family in that area.

I realize this could be family folklore, however, found that many of these stories have some truth rooted in them. I have traced my Campos family back to the 1600’s (Juan de Campos and Isabel Fernandez de Llamas) but have not been able to go beyond. I would like to find more. Wondering if any of this story rings a bell for anyone, hints and or clues. Thank you in advance.

Finding Pedro De Torres y Sarmiento

    Hi everyone

Somebody have any details about Pedro De Torres y Sarmiento (c.1685) and his wife Lorenza de Borja y Gaitan(c.1690)?

They had at least tree sons and two daughters

Juan Joseph De Torres (Sarmiento) Gaitan
Joseph Thadeo Torres Borja (born 1707 Zapotlan El Grande)
Pedro Torres (born 1709 Zapotlan El Grande)
Juana Maria Torres (born 1715 Zapotlan El Grande)
Gertrudis De los Angeles Torres (born 1722 Zapotlan El Grande)

    Esparzas in Nayarit 1700's

Hi. I'm stuck once again and you've all helped me before. Looking for any records for Esparzas born in Amatalan De Canas. Currently I'm stuck with Onofre Joseph Esparza Y Barbosa, his wife Catharina Banegas. They would have been born around 1720, give or take a few years. their son is Gregorio Antonio de Esparza Y Barbosa married to Mariana Lopez de Aguilar . they had 4 kids, that i know of. the first is Ana Yganacia Barbosa Lopez born around 1759. Juan Esteban Esparza born around 1767. Joseph Raphael de la cruz Esparza born 1768. All born in Amatlan de Canas, and a sister Maria Joespha esparza, born 1783 in cocula, Jalisco.

Here is the Marriage record for Gregorio that has Onofres name. Its the 2nd to last entry bottom right.

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-QQ66-X?i=77&cc=1883377

Hoping to connect them to Lope de Ruiz Esparza. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated

    Indexing Wills/Testamentos

    Estimados Miembros,

    ¡Gracias!

    Sergio Salés

    Dear Members,

Since all the Wills of Guadalajara just became available on the web as was stated yesterday, I would like to propose that we index them like has been done with the Marriage Dispensas. It would be a HUGE task, but it would shed so much light on all our lines!

Is anyone interested in joining me on this task?

    Thanks!

Questions on Nicolas Minjares de Solorzano

Nicolas is first married to Maria de la Sida (or Cida) y Roxas but is known in records as Maria de Roxas. In his second marriage with Manuela Delgado Ruiz she is referred to as Manuela Ruiz. they marry in 1708. In a record of Juana de Dios Minjares de Solorzano her father is Nicolas Minjares de Solorzano and her mother (the scribe writes) Manuela Paaez. Has Anyone researched this family and perhaps know if this is just a mistake and they are all the same Nicolas Minjares? Thanks for the Help!

    1. Álvaro de Velasco;
    2. Andrea de Velasco caso con Juan de la Vega "El Mozo" y fueron padres de María de Salinas.
    3. Rodrigo de Velasco casó María de Arellano hija de Diego Arias de Arellano y de María del Castillo.
    4. Antonio de Velasco "El Mozo";
    5. Juan de Velasco alias Juan de Grijalba Velasco.
    6. Diego de Velasco;
    7. Catalina de Velasco casó con Diego de Ávila Cepeda.
    8. María de Velasco casó con Diego de Rivera.
    9. Isabel de Velasco casó con Martín Fernández de Vaulus y se avecindaron en Aguascalientes.
    10. Mariana de Velasco casó con Juan de Villavaso Covarrubias.
    11. Jerónima de Velasco casó con Joseph de Covarrubias y Villavaso, hermano del anterior y se establecieron en Zapotlán.

    Saludos

    Marcelina

First conquerors of the New Spain

    Hello forum,

I want to share with the group this file I found at PARES:

    http://pares.mcu.es/ParesBusquedas/servlets/Control_servlet?accion=4&tx…

The file lists some family relationships of at least 6 conquerors: Martín de Espinoza, Francisco de Baldenebro Negrete, Juan Serrano, Francisco García Farfán, Pedro Sánchez Farfán and Diego Fernández.

I hope you find it interesting.
