My Dream/Mi Sueño
Hello,
Back in 2002 my wife, Figen and I were involved in a serious car
accident in which a drunk driver crashed into us. We survived but I was
out of work for about 6 months and during that time I googled "Puentes"
and found a message from someone looking for information about my father
and uncles. It turned out to be a cousin who was doing genealogy and
that started me on this trip of doing my families genealogical research.
I knew that I didn't know anything about genealogy and even less on how
to do Mexican Genealogy so I decided to surround myself with others that
were doing research in my geographical area: Jalisco and Zacatecas. So
in 2002 I started the Yahoo group: Ranchos which was only for Jalisco
and Zacatecas but later Aguascalientes was added. With the help of many
volunteers the group has become what it is today but the groups
existence would probably be in doubt if it hadn't been for the
tremendous amount of work that Arturo Ramos has put in by building and
maintaining our beautiful website. If anyone in the group should be
remembered with an overnight express package of frozen tamales or
something it should be Arturo. Thank you Arturo.
[Detrás en 2002 mi esposa, Figen y yo estuvieron implicados en un
accidente de tráfico serio en el cual un conductor borracho se estrelló
en nosotros. Sobrevivimos pero estaba sin trabajo por cerca de 6 meses y
durante ese tiempo googled el " Puentes" y encontrado un mensaje alguien
que busca la información sobre mi padre y tíos. Resultó ser un primo que
hacía la genealogía y ésa me comenzó en este viaje de hacer mi
investigación genealógica de las familias. Sabía que no sabia cualquier
cosa sobre la genealogía e incluso menos en cómo hacer la genealogía
mexicana así que decidía rodearme con otros que hacían la investigación
en mi área geográfica: Jalisco y Zacatecas. Tan en 2002 comencé el grupo
de Yahoo: Los ranchos que estaba solamente para Jalisco y Zacatecas pero
Aguascalientes posterior fueron agregados. Con la ayuda de muchos
voluntarios el grupo se ha convertido en cuáles es hoy pero la
existencia de los grupos sería probablemente en duda si él estado para
la cantidad enorme de trabajo que Arturo Ramos ha introducido
construyendo y manteniendo nuestro Web site hermoso. Si cualquier
persona en el grupo se recuerda con un paquete expreso de noche de
tamales congelados o algo debe ser Arturo. Gracias Arturo.]
Anyway back to my dream. Yes I started the group as a selfish desire but
knew that it would also be a place where those that knew even less than
I could be helped as well. I'm happy, very happy that over the years
many members have been able to advance their genealogies with help of
the members of the group. Well this is where I want to make my point.
Right now there are well over 300 members of the group but there is only
a core group of 30-50 that are consistently active in the discussion
groups. My communication is mainly directed to the rest of the group
that is not active. I know very well that many of you have gained
benefit from members of this group but have we received anything from
you? You would know the answer to this question. I personally am maxed
out and don't see myself getting more active in the group than trying to
keep things balanced behind the scenes and making sure things stay
within the norms established. But for those that have received much from
the group but given little I'm making a request of you.

egoísta pero sabía sí que también sería un lugar en donde los que sabían
incluso menos que yo se podrían ayudar también. Estoy feliz, muy feliz
que durante los años muchos miembros han podido avanzar sus genealogías
con la ayuda de los miembros del grupo. Mana esto es donde quiero hacer
mi punto. Ahora hay bien sobre 300 miembros del grupo pero hay solamente
un grupo central de 30-50 que sean constantemente activos en los grupos
de discusión. Mi comunicación se dirige principalmente al resto del
grupo que no es activo. ¿Sé muy bien que muchos de usted han ganado la
ventaja de miembros de este grupo pero nos tengo recibí cualquier cosa
de usted? Usted sabría la respuesta a esta pregunta. Soy así que ocupado
no me veo el conseguir más activo en el grupo con excepción de cuáles

I would propose that 2009 be the year of instruction. A year where the
many teach the many rather than the what is currently happening and the
few teach the many. There are hundreds of things that can be taught. I
would ask that you "donate" 20 hours in 2009 and come up with a Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes genealogy/history/cultural lesson to
teach the group. Every one of us is intelligent enough to put your mind
to work and do some research on something related to our area of
research and share it with your fellow group members. It can be a
history lesson. Tell us about the history of the rancho your GGG
grandparents were born in. Tell us the history of a favorite recipe that
comes from Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes. Someone do a Power
Point on how to do a place search, a film search, a batch search, a
request for a photocopy service from Salt Lake, etc., etc., etc. Someone
go to http://www.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/geneal/index_gc.html and pick two
or three of your surnames and contact the libraries that own these
volumes and have the 10-20 pages on your surnames sent to you. Take that
information and have it translated into English and share it with the
group. There are so many things that can be done.

lección cultural para enseñar al grupo. Todos de nosotros es bastante

y para compartirla con sus miembros compañeros del grupo. Puede ser una

If the members of the group that are not active don't invest in the
group I'm concerned that time will find the group dissolving. Let's
start investing and making the group stronger. My wish is that 2012,
when the Maya Calendar ends, will find the nuestrosranchos.org group
still going strong.
