Was Juan Arredondo a brother to Francisco Arredondo? They married sisters. Francisco's mother was
Francisca Farias Sosa and his father was Juan Arredondo Aguero who was born in Ruesga, Cantabria, Spain. Juan Arredondo Aguero's parents were Juan Arredondo Aguero and Maria Cantero. Francisco's half brother was Mateo ARredondo. Mateo's mother was Maria Fernandez Regil.

Joseph's Dream

Like all other voices raised, I would thank and honor Joseph and Arturo for their diligent work and the wonderous creation that NR has become.?

I regularly count my?blessing in almost literally tripping over NR and the fortune of having?half my ancestors from Aguascalientes, granting me access to learn at the feet of what feels like the masters as I undertake to research my ancestry.? A newbie to genealogy altogether, I have learned so much from all those who do have so much to contribute.? I'm am regularly awestruck by people's reports and discussions of ancestors in the 16th century, particularly when I'm still working?my?way through?the 1800's.??While I'm trying to figure out where I can look for information on a nothing-little town that no one ever heard of, I am blown away to read about people who know the names and locations of the ranchos where their people have lived.? I clearly have a lot to learn and, while much of the discourse brings me no closer to answers now, I am

Dear John:
Thank you, I already have that marriage referenced, but have not ordered the film yet to make sure that Antonio and Juliana are the correct ones. Thus I do not have the marriage date in my GEDCOM. The Tepa film is on my wish list. I am planning a trip to SLC possibly in the spring and it will definitely be one I will look into.

Thank you again.

Hola;

If you relate the discussion to our area of research just like you did
in this email then it is very on topic and can be posted on the
research@nuestrosranchos.org list, but if you think your message (your
teaching lesson) will be 100% on SLP and not related to our area of
research then put it on the general@nuestrosranchos.org list.

So my answer is yes please teach us about SLP as related to Los Altos.

construyendo y manteniendo nuestro hermoso portal.
Arturo. Gracias Arturo.

enseñan a muchos.

joseph

ps: make sure if the lessons are not directly genealogy related to
Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes that you post them on the
general@nuestrosranchos.org discussion list.

Germanic roots?

Hello everyone,

In answer to Joseph's request that we share more openly the information that each of us possess, I thought I would share a little tidbit that I came across. Many years ago in a passing conversation with my father-in-law the name Guzman came up and he commented that it was of german origin, I had always thought of it as a hispanic name since it is common in Mexico. However, recently I found that my father in law was probably right. In researching my Padilla line I started reading the history of Spain and the term "Godos" kept coming up. If I understood correctly, "Godos" refers to Goths - a germanic tribe. These Goths ruled what is now part of Spain for hundreds of years. With that in mind, it is easy to see why so many "Altenos" are tall and fair skinned.

My documents updated again

Hey gente,
I got back from a Salt Lake City trip a couple of weeks ago and just finished updating my files. Over 95% of my ancestors were from Los Altos de Jalisco. Most of them were from Jalostotitlan, San Juan de los Lagos, San Miguel El Alto & Lagos de Moreno.

Hey Roberto,

If you don't mind me asking, which families are you researching in Jalos and
San Miguel? Maybe we coincide with some.

Rosario Enriquez

Dear Rosa:
I could not come up with anything either for Rosario and Trinidad's marriage. We might estimate that they were married when Trinidad was 15 or sixteen years of age. This may or may not be true, but it was common for girls to marry around that age. That would put the marriage around 1909. If you know they were of the Catholic faith and hopefully they were married in Jalostotitlan, then your best bet is to find your nearest LDS history center and order the Catholic marriages film 1905-1913 # 279310 Jalos. Review the film and if it is not there try 1913-1924 279311. There are also civil marriage records, but they appear to be one month of one year each, so it would take more $$$$ and more time. Also, since the marriage was in the early 1900's I have noticed that many of the early 1900 films have not been batched yet, so it would be near to impossible to find a marriage reference online for them. Mind you this is a long shot, but it may be your best bet. I have done

Dear Rosa:
Already so many people on this site have helped me and I am so grateful for all of them. It is a way of passing along the love and information.

From what I have been following and in my own searching, I have found almost all of us are likely related in some way!! I have Iniquez (said to be a variation of Enriquez) and Gonzales in my lines. Also some of the people I am researching are from Jalos., so no doubt we will probably need each other's help again in the future. My Gonzales appear to be from Tepatitlan, but if you run across an Antonio Gonzales married to Juliana De La Torre from the early 1800's from Tepa or from Jalos. Lugardo Jaurequi and Felipa Iniquez in the early 1800's let me know.

Please let us know when your films come in whether you have any success. It gives everyone a boost and a renewed confidence in finding their own elusive relatives.

PS: if you find the Catholic record then it might be a good idea to order the civil film for that date also, then check to see if there is an information marriage done. Informational marriage documents sometimes have family genealogies.

If you need help in finding more film numbers. Go to the familysearch
site main page, click on "library" link at the top of that page and then
"library catalog", choose "placename" search and put in Jalostotitlan part
of Mexico. Click on the links for civil or church records and then "view

might be ordered from Jalos.

Good luck

Does anyone have any data on the Gabay family,

I am curious if there is a link between Martin Navarro De Gabay married to Petronila De Moctezuma

and Juan Navarro married to María Rodríguez Castaño de Sosa

Thanks, Phyls

Phylis,
For some time I have wondered if there is any connection between these Navarro families given that both Juan Navarro (Nuevo Leon) and Martin Navarro (Aguascalientes) are my direct ancestors. Juan Navarro and Maria Rodriguez had a son named Martin who was born between 1574 and 1582. He married Maria de Rojo Ruelas. Thus, this Martin was too young to be Petronilla's husban. Could it be that Juan had a brother named Martin? The timeline would be a good fit. I have searched for evidence in support to this hypothesis with no success. After conducting searches of passengers to Indies with surname Navarro, I found that the surname was adopted by many unrelated individuals that originated in the Basque region of Navarra, most whom are simply identified as originals from Pamplona. In addition, Martin is a VERY common Basque name. Regardless, I would be extremely interested in such connection of these families.

Juan Navarro(m. Maria Rodriguez) was born abt 1555 in San Martin.
My understanding is that his father was a conquisador with Cortes. San Martin was abandoned during the Chichemeca wars.

I found these on a microfilm. The microfilms are available through the
Latter Day Saints Family History Library Catalog.

This brings up a good point for us to consider when we post messages. We
need to do what I did below and give a snip of context so anyone that
reads the message in the middle of the discussion will have a "chance"
to understand what the discussion was about. Sorry Rosa I can't quite
remember myself right now. Also notice that I changed the subject of the
email so it will accurately reflect the topic under discussion. When the
subject gets changed as they often do when a discussion goes on for a
little bit it is needful to change the subject line so the search engine
that Arturo built for us will work if we later need to search for this
particular message or group of messages.

Rosa you can go to www.familysearch.org to find out what films you can
order that are for Jalostotitlan and also you can find where your
closest Family History Center is located.

Joseph,
Thanks for the clarification and all that you do for all us researching our

more often. Every time I read about one of you finding a link for someone
and offering to assist make me beam with hope that someday, I'll find an
answer to my great abuelito Rosario Enriquez. Please let me know if I can
help any of you with San Francisco area pictures or document retrieval.

Hi. I'm new to this wonderful site and was hoping that someone would be
able to assist me. I'm at a roadblock in a family mystery for my paternal
grandfather J. Rosario Enriquez b. abt 1890 Jalostotitlan, Jal. I found the
gravesite for his wife/my paternal grandmother Maria Trinidad Romo b. 3 Mar
1894 Jalostotitlan, Jal., d. 26 Jan 1988 Jalostotitlan, Jal.

I've asked family about him; however, no one seems to know anything about
him. I've searched Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.com, etc... Does anyone
have the marriage films? I would like to obtain a copy of my grandparents
marriage certificate or at minimum the information on the marriage record.
Does anyone have any other ideas? With much appreciation!

Gracias!

Hello Nuestros Ranchos cousins!

I'm so excited because I was finally able to find more information from my Casillas family. They are from Santa Maria Mecatabasco, Villa de Refugio, Zacatecas. Can you help me further my research by telling me which churches, etc I should look it? Thanks!

Hola Sandra,
I have research in Villa de Refugio, Zac as well from 1776-1930. I have notice that almost everyone came from somewhere else. Mecatabasco was a large parish going down to Huansco, Zac to Calvillo, Ags
and west Plateado, Zac your Casillas prob came from one of these places. I do have some Casillas but not related from Huanusco some miles from Tabasco, Maybe you could give me some dates and names, do you know what Ranchos or Haciendas they came from? Most of the names are not from Tabasco. They're are places, like Huiscolco, Plateado, La Luz, Refugio Sauz, Labor are some I can remember off the top of my head, we came from LA LUZ. Almost most families went to Tabasco to baptize their kids and also get married. -Daniel Mdc

Hola Sandra, I will see hopefully I can find something or anything as mention before in Ranchos there are migration patterns! especially with the spanish in nueva Galicia. Villa de Refugio, means Village of the Refuge! Its actually not even a village anymore since ca. 1831 it was elevated to a pueblo or town. That is why we see Tabasco/Villa de Refugio used interchangeable. They're the same. There is a story my Grandfather told me about these areas, Tabasco, Jalpa and Huanusco. Most came from Aguascalientes. Several Spanish families left Los Altos to these places where they had land, one of them were the Camino family my grandfather's family, they use to own Haciendas La Labor, La Luz, El Carretón, and many other ranchos. Not sure how they were able to gain all these lands but my guess would be inheritance and some grants, I do know they purchased La Luz from a family in Aguascalientes. after 1917 the revolutionaries burned down all they're land and were left with only a fraction of their wealth barely enough to survive then they immigrated to the US. These are just one of the stories you'll hear if you ever go to Huanusco.

Hi there,

I wouldnt be too quick to judge here , there is a path that was taken in those days called LA RUTA DE PLATA . It was used to go to the northern states of Coahuila , Durango , Nuevo Leon from the states of Jalisco , Aguascaliente and Zacatecas .

A lot of the founding fathers of the cities in those states originated in the tri states of our research, so it might not be a bad idea to search outside of the box .

Escobedo in Zacatecas

Robert,

I thought I had lots of Escobedos [Escovedo] in my lines, but I see I have mostly Acevedos.

However, I did find one Escovedo. She was Mariana de Escovedo, an espanola (Spanish), who married a Pablo Jose Suriano, a mulato, around 1797, probably in Tepetongo or Salitrillo. That means she might have been born around 1777. Mariana was also listed in her children's birth records under various names such as Maria Ana Guadalupe [Mata] or [Flores] or [De La Torre]. This has made it hard for me to find her birth record so I don't know who her parents were or where she was born. I suspect her mother may have been a Mata or Flores or a Delatorre; those families were as prominent in Zacatecas as the Escovedos. Sometimes they used only their mother's surname.

wow. Emilie, my families history is almost identical to yours. My grandfather had a sister named Mariana who was married to a man, last name Mesa (I can't remember right now his first) and he was executed on trumped up charges. When the authorities realized their mistake they gave Mariana money that she used to come here. She had two brothers who were conscripted also, named Francisco and Felipe and they were never seen or heard from again. My grandfather made it over here through El Paso also. The name Mata has come up in my search. In fact I'll look for it but there was a Mata and I think the name was Juan de Mata. I'll have to go look. I have been trying to find records of military information also. All of this also happened around 1913-1916.

Sometimes they used only their mother's surname.

In the pilot site for Family Search, they have transcribed the records for
Tlaltenango, Tepechitlan, and Pinos in Zacatecas, and many Escovedos are listed
in those communities. I might find Mariana when they get to transcribing the
Monte Escobedo and other films. If her record was lost or among those not
filmed, then I am out of luck.

It is interesting to me that you have relatives from Guadalupe. My
father's sister Soledad Olague was born there. My father Guadalupe Olague
was born in Jerez in 1903. The birth records from that time were lost during
the Revolution. My grandfather Francisco Olague and his brother Ygnacio and
their brother in law Jose Davila Garcia were conscripted into some army, I
don't know which side, and were scheduled to be executed by firing squad but
Jose's wife, sister of Francisco and Ygnacio, appealed to someone and they
let them all leave on the train bound for Chihuahua City and the El Paso, Texas
border. That was in 1913 when my father was 10 years old. None of them ever
went back to Mexico.

I will do some research and see if I can find any ancestors and descendants of
my Mariana Escobedo and see if she had a common ancestor among your ancestors.
I'll let you know.

Esparza Family from Noria de los Angeles and El Hacienda Corro

I am interested to know if anyone is familiar with the terrain of Zacatecas and the ranchos nearby. Mariano Esparza was from an area called Corro in Zacatecas. I am having difficulty finding Corro on the map of Zacatecas. If anyone has any information or any family line that trace to the Corro area or Noria de los angeles please write back.

Escobedo Family

Hi everyone. I am fairly new to this site and looking for anyone with Escobedo's in their family tree. I have my genealogy traced back to around 1820 but have not had much luck getting more information. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes I do. That seems to be the only place I can find any of them but my grandfather thought we may have come from Jalisco but wasn't sure. What are the names of some of yours? The names I know that came there are my great grandfather Teodoro Escobedo who married Francisca Ortiz and was born in Guadalupe, Zacatecas and had brothers named Enrique and Leonardo and a sister named Manuela. Their father was named Gabino and was married to Isabel Reyes. Gabino was born in 1838 to Estevan Escobedo and his mother was also named Francisca. There are more names but those are the ones I am concentrating on right now. The cities that I know they lived include Noria and Monte Escobedo. My grandfather said we came from a mountain and almost everyone there was an Escobedo. (Monte Escobedo?)

Guanajuato migration?

I am intrigued with this thread, as I believe that there was a migration
pattern from Michoacan to Jalisco and Zacatecas. Where the initial migration
began and ended is unsure...but it does not seem an impossibility that such

This is true North Western Michoacán called Valle de Zamora is also considered part of the Alteño family so is Aguas and Southern and Eastern Zac, i.e. Huanusco, Jalpa, Nochistlán, Noria and Pinos and western Guanajuato. I have many ancestors who came from Michoacán to Jalisco and Aguas. We all know our spanish ancestors were mainly in Los Altos but eventually my uess would be overpopulated and scattered around the surrounding lands but never too far. I seen people go all over that area it was named Nueva Galicia and most families never left that entire area except to the north. -Daniel

Joseph,

A historical relationship between states? In what context--migration, establishment-?

Most of us in the group, those of us from the US anyway, have more ancestors that migrated north to Chihuahua or Leon. I don't have any ancestors from Zacatecas (and my husband doesn't have any ancestors from Jalisco), that migrated to Guanajuato. I know very little about Guanajuato, except that many migrants to the US are from there. It had a very rich silver mine centuries ago, and many Indian tribes. I don't know when it became a state.

I am left to wonder why you were thinking of a "relationship" between Guanajuato and our ancestral states. What led you to think about it?

I know there are many of my Castanon's found in Guanajuato before they are found in Zacatecas but have not been able to connect them to my lines yet. Other than that one line I have found links to Jalisco from Guanajuato
early 1700's to late 1600's but have not pursued them since they were not direct links to my lines.Seems to me Daniel Mendez has links to Guanajuato? Am I correct Daniel?Linda in Everett

I am chasing a fleeting "Puente" from Guanjuato and imagining that this
Puente might be one of my Puente's but I have very very little to base
that on and just wanted to know if there was any kind of historical
relationship between the two areas. For example when I first started the
group it was only for Jalisco and Zacatecas since I didn't know the
strong historical association that Aguascalientes has to the these two
states and I was thinking well who knows that there might also be some
historical info about Guanajuato that I'm ignorant of that I should know
about.

It all started when over a 100 years of records that I need in
Zacatecas, Zacatecas turned up missing but there is a confirmation
record for the 1749 time period that I'm hoping will turn up my Justo
Rufino Puente GGGG grandfather. In that film there is this Agustin
Puente whose wife is Juana Rodriguez and there is this one record that
comes up on the www.familysearch.org site for this couple and they seem
to be from San Felipe, Guanajuato.

Anyway I don't have any other leeds and as slim as this one is I'm
dreaming that this might open a door or two. There does seem to be a lot
of Puente's in the state of Guanjuato. I wish I could do a massive Y-DNA
comparison with all the Puente's who have proven historical roots in
different parts of Mexico and find out where my GGGGG grandfather
Antonio Puente was from "IF" he was not from Zacatecas, Zacatecas.

Family Tree Magazine January 2009 issue

Just a small heads up:

Family Tree Magazine in their January 2009 Issue (the one at the newsstands now) they have article at tracing Mexican Ancestry. I haven't had the time to really sit down and read it word for word. But the little that I read, seemed pretty good.

Danny Cuellar-Reynoso Connection

Hola Danny ,how are you ? my name is Ronnie Reynoso , my people are from Los Altos ,my Grandparents are from the area of San Julian (near san Miguel el Alto). I was looking at your chart and saw Alejo Reynoso and Wife . I have Alejos connection all the way to Spain . Alejo Reynoso is part of the Reynoso Clan . The Majority (98%) of Reynosos are related(Zacatecas,Jalisco and Aguascalientes) and from the same root.

Looking for my Bugarin family line

My name is Nick Perez and I am looking for any Bugarin roots from Zacatecas. My grand father Miguel Bugarin was born near Atolinga Zacatecas and he owned a rancho called La Noria. He died in 1952 in Atolinga. He was aproximately 42 years old.

Had you consulted Censo de México 1930? in the www.familysearch.org site
you can click in the record search pilot section,

there next click in "view all collections",
and once there scroll down to where it says
1930 Mexico Census,
click on it and
next click on "Browse the unindexed images"
there you will have it!
Please if any trouble ask again, to me you can write in spanish also, hasta luego.

Nick,

I would suggest, looking for your grandfather Miguel's death record in Atolinga, Zacatecas. Try both the civil and parish (I strongly recommend the civil).

Then, I would look for the marriage record of your grandparents Miguiel and Felipa. Once again check both civil and parish.

Then, you can look for Miguel's birth record.

The death and marriage records, should narrow down the time frame and location of his birth and christening records.

The FHL (Family History Library) does have both Civil and Parish records for Atolinga, Zacatecas. So you can order the films into your local FHC (Family History Center).

I did notice that the FHL does not have any census records for Atolinga.

thanks,
Jonathan
