An additional help is finding relatives of a different surname, which is
frequent in our culture. Some of our ancestors took surnames on their
Maternal side.The Salinas surname is frequent enough in Northeastern
Mexico and in our project's results to possibly connect to Don Pedro
Salinas who was an early settler to the region. Our project's Salinas
can't quite trace back that far to confirm but we have recently found a
Longoria with the Salinas Ydna. This connection is significant in
that Javier Salinas a founder of Mier Tamaulipas married a Longoria. A
similar situation occurred connecting the Garza and Trevino names only
this was verified by paper trail.

There weren't that many settlers in Northeastern Mexico and many lines
daughtered out (did not leave male line relatives). Many are the
descendants of the surviving lines in this part of Mexico. This is
similar to what happened in Northwestern Mexico. If you see the project
page we may have identified a founder NW Mexico lilne in the Robles
surname.

The founders leave the most descendants.

to help your genealogy along using DNA you want to work with a Y-DNA
work up which is the one passed along through male individuals from
father to sons. mt-DNA is passed on from the mother to both sons and

back many many thousands of years back so it is harder to find a match
with someone who you can prove is your relative via a written document.

relatives. If you all come up a match then you are related.

Then the way you advance your genealogy is to hope that the person you

lines maybe you'll be able to help each other.

I would like to thank my recent found Cousin Linda from Everett. She has given my a great Christmas gift one I found a lost cousin I thought I would never find. My parents know her Gutierrez relatives very well but never met Linda. We have reunited a lost line. She has also helped me extend my Mendez line a lot. My Mendez line started from 1840 to 1750 thanks to her. I thank you Linda, I don't know how I would of continued my genealogy without your help. How does this help one's genealogy? I heard you can see where you and someone else like Royal shared a common ancestor at one point. Can it extend your genealogy any further by doing this?

Something everyone on this group should notice when viewing it is that almost all of my ancestors on my Mother's side intermarried and may apprar more than a couple times sharing the same ancestors. My parents are Jose Gabriel Mendez Cortez and Ampelia del
Camino Garcia. I was born in San Jose California. On 2 Jun 1992 ( I am 14 years of age) I was born in the
Mormon Church. My grandparents are Martin Mendez Serrano (Feb 1917)
and Maria del Refugio Cortez Moran (1935) she is currently living.
My grandfather Martin died in 2001. My maternal grandparents are
Antonio del Camino Lizalde II (1935) (currently living) and Maria Carolina Garcia del
Camino (1940) she died in 2003. I started Genealogy about 2 years ago. My grandfather started in 1985
so I continued for him and fell in love with genealogy. My hobbies
are golfing, coin and stamp collecting. I descend from Mariano del Camino Martinez who
people call those rich people with those HUGE haciendas from back in
the day but then the government split the haciendas with the poor
which was nice of them. He owned La Luz. in Huanusco, Zacatecas.
I love reading. I like to travel around with my family. I have been told by my grandpa that he possibly descends from King Rizzardo di Camino IV of Treviso he went to a genealogy
conference back in 1987 and a man helped me with a lot of stuff. But
obviosly I don't have evidence of this connection. He is from the 1300's in Treviso Italy. Im pretty young for my age and working on my genealogy but very mature for my age. What I do know is that I descend from the conquistador Lord Juan del Camino de Montanes this was passed down through the generations many of the few things. But then again I also don't haveany substanial evidence of this link. It was said Lord Juan settled at the southeastern edge of Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosi. This was in 1542. He came in 1521 and relocated there. Im at the point that I have connected my Camino ancestors to Calvillo, Aguascalientes. Thanks to Joseph. My name is Lisa Gonzalez, I live in Antioch California. I am researching my mother's side of the family; the Lopez and the Martinez families from Rancho Lo de Carrera, Tenayuca, Zacatecas. Most legal filings were made in Apulco, the nearest "big town."
My grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Lopez was born at Rancho Lo de Carrera in 1909. Her parents, Biviano Lopez and Crispina Martinez left Mexico soon after 1909 (family tradition says 1910) and settled in Morenci, AR. By the 1940s, most of the family had relocated to Los Angeles, or Oakland CA. I know the names of Biviano and Crispina's parents, but that's it.
I will mostly be using library, LDS resources, and the Internet.
I am extremely impressed and fascinated by the action on Nuestros Ranchos. I've been involved with genealogy for about five years and when I came across this site I knew I had finally arrived. I would appreciate any feedback.

I have ancestors from San Miguel El Alto & Jalostotitlan too. I
have found that sometimes I find them in Jalostotitlan records and
vice-a-versa. You might look into Jalostotitlan for that time period.
One Jalos film even had a separate section from San Miguel. I searched
far & wide for a marriage record for my GGGG Grandparents from Jalos--I
found them in San Miguel. I would check that before looking for
Confirmation records since it seems those have so little info. San
Miguel & Jalos are pretty close to each other.

Alto. They said that either they had been overlooked or had been
destroyed, but that I may write the church to see if they might have the
missing 1865 records. She said I might also try the civil records, but
the civil records did not start until after 1865! For those of you
looking for records in San Miguel El Alto, please be aware that the film
for baptisms 1865 is not complete. Only the first six months of 1865
are contained on the film. LDS said I might also try confirmations.

Now for my questions. Does anyone know how or where to request
historical records from the parish of San Miguel El Alto? Is there a
cost involved and how much? If there is a cost, will an international
money order work to send funds? I have sent for records in the States
and also in the UK, but never for Mexico. Since my Spanish is limited
at best, is there a form in Spanish that I may use? Last but not least,
at what age were confirmations done in Mexico?

Maureen, I found the comfirmation records from Jerez Zacatecas good only
for finding names, no age's or locations of birth. I've found 2 year
olds and 40 year olds confirmed the same day. It appears from the older
records the priest or bishop came from Zacatecas City and did everyone
who wanted confirmation every few years. In fact some records read they
were confirmed in the morning and others in the afternoon.. huge mass
comfirmations. I hope your city gives you more information than mine
did.. but then again, I'll gladly take whatever I can get!

What type of research have you done? Have you accessed the www.familysearch.org website or is your research mostly oral history from family members?

The key is to provide as much information as you have to the group and in that way you will receive the greatest response.

When you give names, give the complete names, given name and surname or both surnames if possible along with the dates of birth or baptism, marriage and death if available. Where they were born, state, city or town, rancho or ranchos, who did they marry and when.

The way you have stated it below is very vague, not enough information provided. What is the first name for your grandmother's father, --------Arroyo? What is the first or given name for your grandmother Hernandez? What is the time period as in what years?

If you have not used www.familysearch.org do you know how to use it? If not here is a link that is located in the files/research section of Nuestros Ranchos, http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/14638 This will tell you how to find your nearest family history center.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me yes, it's a very good feeling when you get to connect the dots and little by little you start to see the design of it all . I started this search of mine roughly 25 yrs ago and within the last several months I've found several family members . I'm currently living in Monterrey , Mexico . I came here 5 yrs ago to spend one year doing research on the family line . I got a little side tracked and started a telecommunications business here and long story short two years later I still hadn't done any family searching . When I sold my shares of the biz I was heading home ( home being Marina de Rey , Ca. ) I was invited to start an organic fertilizer company and well , here I still am however I did start the search and like I said in the last several months I've done ok here with past family members but I never knew about the members that came from Zacatecas until recently .

Linda is correct in that confirmation records only list the names of those being confirmed and their Godparents. That was the requirement per the diocese, not by the parish or local priest. In the 1600's, 1700's and the early 1800's it was per the decree of the Spanish court or La cedula real. Usually the bishop would travel to all the parishes to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation. It might take the bishop a few years to make it back to each parish again so you will find confirmation records anywhere from every 2 years to every 7-10 years. In some instances they might have to go to another church to be confirmed other than their own parish if the Bishop could not come to their town. In that case you would look in neighboring parishes for confirmation records but I wouldn't necessarily advise you to do that because the information you glean from that will be minimal.

Thanks for the heads up. I can only hope that San Miguel might have more than just names. What a shame. However, the marriage and baptismal records for Mexico are just wonderful. I have sent for Ohio marriage records and all it lists is the bride, groom and date. No way to tell if you have the right ones by matching up the parents names. For Mexico, we have so much more and even grandparents for baptismals as well as sometimes an aunt or uncle as a sponsor for a bonus, then their age too!

Now that you sent this I think we have driven this route once before, many many years ago and it was very narrow and very precarious due to the steep cliffs and dropoffs and very, very scary. That was long before I got into genealogy and paid attention to names of towns and their locations relative to our hometown of Nochistlan, Zac.
