Tony,
You are correct about so many of us having the Ruiz de Esparza lineage. I have three lines with either Ruiz, Ruiz de Esparza or Esparza, depending on the records, they will interchange the Ruiz, the Esparza or Ruiz de Esparza.
One line is Esparza/Macias/Valadez from Jalpa Zacatecas and Nochistlan Zacatecas, sometimes shown as Ruiz de Esparza and sometimes only Ruiz, that's why for a time I couldn't connect some families because I did not see the connections until one day within the same document they used all three terms, Ruiz, Ruiz de Esparza and Esparza for the same event.
Another line is Ruiz de Esparza/Luevano/Sotomayor from Pabellon Rincon de Romos, Aguascalientes, Hacienda Garabato and the other line is shown mostly as Ruiz for 5 generations from Nochistlan, Zac, Rancheria Monte de los Duranes, who married into the Esparza/Luevano/Sotomayor of Aguascalientes in the early 1800's.

So many of us have this same Ruiz de Esparza line; has anyone done research
as to the "Vielma" family(s) from this early time frame? I have wondered if
references to "Biedma", "Viezma",
"Bedmar" etc. are the same or misspellings/mis-transcriptions of this name
or totally different families.
I've heard of Cuca but not Chucha for a woman. I heard this person
giving a lecture and he referred to so and so marrying a woman named
Chucha. IF this is a legitamate nickname what is it the nickname for?
thanks,
joseph
ps: I kind of remember hearing the word chucha as referring to a dog in
the femine.

If on 01 February 2007 you find yourself unsubscribed from here is what
to do:
1) Just go to nuestrosranchos.org and click on "Create New Account"
2) fill in the application in specific detail, and submit.
3) You'll get a form letter back telling you to send in your genealogy
to NR@JosephPuentes.com
4) When I receive your genealogy I'll activate your account. . .
. . .see how simple it will be.
thanks and I am sorry for the 50 or so of you that will be unsubscribed
from on 01 Feb 2007 that somehow it didn't work out for you and the
nuestrosranchos.org group to work together in our research of the
Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes area.
The doors will always remain open if later you want to undertake a
Serious Investigation of your Genealogical Roots.
thanks,

Thanks Gloria for all your help. I also wanted to know which Matianas do you have? Thanks. :)
Does a Nicasio or Narciso Esparza ring a bell? Is Nicasio a name? (est. birth 1810) in Calvillo, Ags. Bill does do you have this person as a descendant of Lope Ruiz de Esparza? Any help is appreciated.

1-Dirijase a "Nuestros Ranchos.com" y seleccione la opción: "Create New Account"
Gracias.

I have updated the English version of the Nuestros Ranchos User Guide. It is still not complete but I have updated previously written sections which were outdated and written up what I think are some very important features such as using the Films Database and Searching the GEDCOM database. I have also added an appendix which shows three standard genealogy reports: Ahnentafel, Pedigree Chart and Register so that members can have examples of what genealogy reports should look like. Ideally the reports in your genealogy folder should be in one of these formats for easy sharing with other members.
I strongly suggest that any new members download the guide and print it out to have as a guide of what resources are available on the site and how to make the best use of it. I am hoping to get the changes translated soon.

I just added some photo's of my maternal and paternal families in the albums section under Linda Castanon-Long. I will be adding a few more in the coming week.

Let's say you have a PAF file you are unfamiliar with. How would you?:
1) Find specific locations within the file? Say I was hunting for any
individual whose roots are in Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes
just as an example?
2) Find specific individuals?

As part of the remake of the Nuestros Ranchos site that I would like to do over the next few months, I would like to redo the "main image" of the site to include names of places that we cover written in very old documents, i.e. parrish records or wills. I have plenty of scans from my area around Colotlan and Tlaltenango but would like to include some from Los Altos, Aguascalientes and northern Zacatecas. If anybody has any old photos of towns in these areas or scans of documents where the names of towns are written out, can you please email them to me or upload them to the Albums section?
I really appreciate it. Are there any good graphic designers out there?

the nuestrosranchos.org site continues because of the hard work and
dedication of its volunteers: Kitty Cortez, Alicia Carrillo, John
Gonzalez, and Enrique Legaspi. It sounds like there will be others who
are joining in to do the work as well soon.
We all know the great work that Arturo has done with the website and a
continued thanks go to him for his efforts. Muchisimas Arturo!
I just wanted to publicly thanks John Gonzalez and Enrique Legaspi for
their help in doing Translation work for me when I needed something to
be said "correctly." You all have seen that my written Spanish is
terrible and these two gentlemen have stepped up to help me greatly and
I'm counting on them to help in the future. Thank you John and thank you
Enrique.
I wanted to point out two special volunteers whose efforts are going
unnoticed by the members of the group but without their help the burden
of the workload would have destroyed my will to continue on in the group
as one of the Moderators:
1) Alicia Carrillo: Our Spam Master. She is the one that allows or
disallows Spam from getting to the group. Have you noticed how the
nuestrosranchos.org site gets no spam? Well it is sent to a special
folder where on a daily basis Alicia goes in and deletes all the spam
and hunts for the misc. message that a new member will send before they
reply to those three confirmation emails that we must all reply to
before being allowed to send messages to the lists. Anyway this job in
this day and age is very needed and time consuming. I was stressing
about it and Alicia came to the rescue and has helped greatly in
assuring that no legitimate messages get tossed out with the tons of
spam the three lists receive daily. Mucha Gracias Alicia.
2) Kitty Cortez: Our Potential New Members Screener. Whenever potential
new members apply for a new account they get sent a message saying they
need to do their own research and send in their representative genealogy
to be admitted as members of the group. After about 15 days of no
response Kitty sends them an email reminding the potential new members
that in order for their membership account to be activated they need to
send in their genealogies. Then after about 30 days Kitty sends a last
message saying that if they don't reply ASAP (deadline given) their
application for membership will be deleted. I can't believe how many new
potential members are applying every week thanks to Arturo's site design
which allows the search engines to find us. This job got really out of
hand and I was straining under the load of doing it until Kitty
volunteered to help. Thank you thank you thank you, Kitty!
I can't express how much I appreciate the efforts of Alicia, Kitty,
John, and Enrique. Having said that I don't want them to think that I'm
just assuming they will do this job forever (it would be okay with me if
they wanted to do it forever). Arturo has already made a call for new
volunteers to help with some projects he has lined up and I want other
members to keep in mind that I might need help from you in possibly
assisting Alicia and Kitty. Now they are Trojans and have not asked for
any help and I won't be interfering with their efforts but it is
possible that sometime in the future they might need a "break" or
assistance. So I want all of you to think of getting on my list of
people that I can potentially call upon if I need an "on-call" volunteer.
thanks again for everyone's interest, participation and contribution to
the group.

Hi Bill, I have a Pablo Vasquez on IGI who married Martina Esparsa on 18 Feb 1835 and my 4th grt grandmother should be Matiana Esparsa but then I found a child who I do recall named Petra Vasquez Esparsa on IGI born Feb 1845 in Calvillo. And I found my 3rd grt grandfather just now on IGI Leandro Vasquez was baptized on Mar 1848 in Calvillo so now I have solid proof that the Vasquez came from Calvillo. Do you think Matiana and this Martina could be the same person? I think they should of married before 1845 I was totally off. I had Leandro born on 1857 which is 9 years Off!
Hi Bill, I too believe this might be Pablo Villalobos as "Pablo Vasquez'' because it would make sense he was married a first time to Martina Esparsa on 18 Feb 1835. Hmm maybe Martina is Matiana's sister? I don't know. So far a lot of my lines seem to be leaving huanusco and coming from Calvillo which is right on the border. Thanks for all your help. I was reading about the Esparzas and it said Lope II married Francisca de Gabay Navarro y Moctezuma. Doesnt that mean Francisca maternal side comes from Emperor Monctezuma? Hope we can work together to uncover my mysteries. Are you by chance related to Lope Ruiz de Esparza?
I've found Maria de la Luz Avila Calvillo on IGI she was baptized on 11 Mar 1832 in El Sagragrio, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico!
The Lobato's were from Sombrete, Zacatacas can someone tell me where this is? And where would I find records earlier than 1690's?
Denise Lovato-Duran
My grandfather told me that our two Esparza lines came from Aguascalientes before entering Huanusco, Zacatecas. I was researching this Esparza line who the patriach is Lope Ruiz de Esparza who came to Mexico in Feb 8, 1593. There is a film named (Catalogo de Pasajeros a Indias (Vol. III - #2.633) where it states this information. I believe all Esparzas in that area came from him since there wasnt any Esparza active during the conquest that I have found. Maybe there's a connection from mine to them? Can anyone help? Thanks. -Daniel
Okay folks listen up!
One day someone is going to desperately want to search for a specific
email by using the search engine. In order for the search engine to work
to this advantage we need to give the proper names for the subjects of
the emails.
1) If you are replying to an email and are changing the subject please
change the subject accordingly. You can say something like: Census
Records - was: "Introduction"
2) Yes and lets start getting just a bit more specific about the
subject. One day we might need to look for someones introduction and
come to find 100 messages with the subject being "Introduction" why not
lets say: "Joseph Puentes: Introduction"
3) Also let's try to keep in mind what each of the three email lists are
for:
research@nuestrosranchos.org is for messages that are specifically for
research in our area: Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.
_Messages related to genealogy but not about Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or
Aguascalientes should not go to this list. _
general@nuestrosranchos.org is for brief discussions about genealogy
_outside our area of research_ OR messages about _other topics_ that the
group might find useful including those that are related to Jalisco,
Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes. IF IF someone starts a conversation
about genealogy research related to Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or
Aguascalientes on this list then let's all try to move the conversation
as soon as possible back to research@nuestrosranchos.org
announce@nuestrosranchos.org is for announcements.
thanks for your help with this,
joseph

Hello joseph,
I would like to take this opportunity to say thanx as well to you and to Kitty , Alicia John and Enriquie . Sometimes you forget just how much work is involved in maintaining a smooth operation , kinda like the duck theory , you see the duck on the surface of the lake gliding ever so smoothly but, what you don't see are his feet underneath paddling away .
Thank you all !

Fernando,
