Nuestros Ranchos Site

A small group of Nuestros Ranchos members, residing in Northern California and the Bay Area, meet quarterly to discuss genealogy research. For our last meeting we had a tour of the Bancroft Library led by the Curator of the Western Americana Collection. We normally rotate the location of the meetings.

Our next meeting is scheduled for March 17th, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The location will be the Raley's Event Center in Elk Grove. All Nuestros Ranchos members are welcome to join us. If you are interested in attending and would like more information, please contact me.

My Velasco lines that I've traced are Eustacia Velasco born abt. 1830 in Calvillo, Ags. and my other Velasco line is Jose Jesus Velasco born abt. 1820 also in Calvillo.I've found the marriage for Jose Jesus. On IGI, but need to order the film to find his parents.

My 3rd Great Grandfather founded the Hacienda de los Caminos
Guess what was his surname? Camino HaHa (Mariano Camino Martinez) B. Oct 1850 in Calvillo, Ags.

Any help is appreciated. I will order 5 Marriages films for Calvillo at the end of Feb.

I checked the site and under Regidor/Parque y Mercado you will find Ingeniero Hector Duran Avelar, he's my first cousin. His mom and my dad (deceased) were brother and sister. My aunt lives in San Jose 75% of the time and in Nochistlan the rest of the time.

Thanks for posting this, maybe someday I will get the opportunity to be there for this festival.

Thank you so much. Agustina Santelices was my grandmother, and this incident is indicative of the elusiveness I've encountered tracing her family. It's interesting that this unknown procurador Santelices and Agustina's father, Francisco Santelices's Panuco marriage are the only Santelices mentioned in relation to Zacatecas. Most Santelices are either from DF or Puebla. A handful are found in GTO and Queretero. Would this procurador have been living in Zacatecas or been making his recommendation from DF? The only mention of the surname Santelices is of a procurador (attorney general) by that name (no first name given) recommending that a tribunal show leniancy to a group of miners... I have posted a new article on my website about the Knights Templar.
I have tried to remain relatively unbiased about this very
controversial subject in order to better inform those that are new to
the subject. My aim is to encourage more research about the Templars
and the other Military orders among Hispanic Genealogy researchers.
Some of our ancestors were members of these orders and no genealogy is
complete without this information.

I would be honored if you would review my article and let me know what

A small icon at the bottom left says it is downloading from site, but where is it? You will see there are two files as attachments to that folder. The names are listed alphabetically with the first file A-L and the second L-Z.

You can rotate the document within Adobe. I suggest you save the file and then open it from your desktop as each one is 2MB...

If you are having trouble using the site, I suggest you download the Nuestros Ranchos User Guide which is available in the Files - References section.

Arturo, At the risk of sounding totally computer illiterate, how do I view the names? I've tried clicking on the volumes and it says downloading from nuestros...but I never see anything. What am I doing wrong? Sorry, and thanks so much, Alice

Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, we got the Nuestros Ranchos User Guide started and about halfway finished last summer. The project has been sitting gathering dust and I would like to get it completed as I think it will be very useful for the new members who are not familiar with all of the functions of the site. There is a Spanish and an English version. The outlines are finished, they just need to have meat put on the bones (along with some screen prints). Please let me know if you can help...

Does anyone have Lobato or Tafoya from Michoacan or Sombrete?

I have the listing of racial descriptions, but I have just found a description that I do not have referenced and could not find a translation out on the Internet. Is anyone familiar with the term "Espazo." It is the racial description on the baptismal document of Serapia Ledesma Baldivia born September 8, 1832 in San Miguel El Alto, Jalisco. Any help would be appreciated.

Lo siento pero tengo que decir lo siguiente:

Hace algunos dias hice mi inspección final para determinar quienes serían eliminados del grupo a partir del dia
primero de Febrero, 2007. Pero luego ayer noté que algunos han enviado genealogias al area del grupo:
"files"==>"Member Genealogies" SIN notificar a los miembros del grupo Y sin informarme a mi.

Si le envié un mensaje en el cual le avisaba que necesitaba mandar su genealogia antes del dia 31 de Enero del 2007
Y si envió sus datos a "files" Y no me lo hizo saber...Que no le sorprenda si se encuentra eliminado del grupo de todos modos.
La comunicación es esencial aquí y se requiere notificar a alguien.
Es muy dificil llevar control de todos los miembros, expedientes, datos y todo lo demas que tengo que hacer fuera del grupo
si no hay buena comunicación.
Si usted es una de esas personas, le sujiero me envíe un mensaje los mas pronto posible dirigido a: NR@JosephPuentes.com

the Nuestros Ranchos group.

For those that haven't submitted their work I get a little nervous when
it comes time to remove members from the list. I wish everyone would
just buckle down and send in their representative genealogies showing
their connection to Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.

This is the second to the last notice I'm going to send out. I'll
probably send out the last notice right after the new year. Then
suddenly on 01 Feb 2007 the group should show 30-50 less members. Please
don't let this be you. On that day or shortly thereafter I will be
deleting the memberships of all who have not done
one of the following things:

1) emailed moderator@nuestrosranchos.org with a request for the specific
amount of time you'll need beyond 31 Jan 2007 to submit your genealogy*.

*Note you might be a new researcher with very little or nothing to
submit. In this case you'll be able to meet this requirement by sending
in a short account of your family's "Oral History" relating your roots
to Jalisco, Zacatecas, and/or Aguascalientes.

2) send moderator@nuestrosranchos.org an email with your
"representative" tree showing your connection to Jalisco, Zacatecas,
and/or Aguascalientes. [Note: not your gedcom is not required, or every

In case you didn't know, the LDS project for digitizing films is going much faster than anyone expected. They have now begun projects where volunteers can extract documents online using special software that you can download. I did it tonight just to see what it was like and it is amazingly simple to do. It looks like it is mostly the 1900 census for the moment. I think this has to do with the standardization of the documents which makes it possible for volunteers with minimal or no training to find the information and enter it correctly.

I would love to see them put up an extraction project related to our research area! I have already written them to inquire about when this might be.

If you get a chance and have some free space on your hard drive (the software is pretty large), try downloading the software and extracting a batch or two of the census... every little bit counts:

Do you have any genealogy software installed on your computer? If you don't you can go to www.familysearch.org and download the free PAF program through them. It is very easy to download and install, if I can do it I know anyone else can do it.

Hello again! My name is Michael Huizar I do not know how to arrange my info. I have information on at least 400 Huizar's here in Texas, and a few in California. I obtained them from researching U.S. Census records dating back to 1870. The reason for this research is to try and solve a very old and conflicting story of who carved the Rose window of the San Jose Mission. history books say that Pedro Huizar is given credit for it. according to the story he arrived in San Antonio appointed by the King of Spain to survey the Missions and build an aquia to provide irrigation water to fields. the story also says that he carved the window in memory of his lost love Rosa, she was rumored to have died in shipwreck on her way to meet him. records say that he was born in Aguascalientes, but not sure where. I know that there are Huizar's in Aguascalientes, because i went there and met a person that lived in la colonia de los bosques that was a Huizar. i tried to find addresses of Huizar
