Subject: [ranchos] UPDATE ON THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RANCHOS MEETING

Hi group!

Here is an update on the upcoming Southern California Ranchos
Meeting. A kind member of the Ranchos group, Olivia Jaurequi-Reyes,
has offered the use of her home as a meeting place. The advantage of
this is that we can have a calm, comfortable atmosphere to share our
genealogies and ideas. I'd like to thank Olivia for her generosity.
The location was originally set for the Covina area, but Olivia's home
is in Rowland Heights, not too far away from the 60 freeway, and just
west of the 57 interchange.

We are planning a menu of carne asada, rice, beans, sodas, water,
coffee, and pan dulce, and expect the cost to be in the range of $10
per person. I ask that you please let me know whether you definitely
plan to attend, and inform me no later than FEBRUARY 15, so we can
order the food and purchase any necessary items. PLEASE TELL ME HOW
MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING. This is crucial for planning purposes, and I
will also respond with Olivia's address and phone number, which I do
not want to post on the public forum. Email me at
lareina2@... . I will then forward any other pertinent
information for those who express an interest. Even if you did not respond
before this, feel free to add your name to the list!

Location: Rowland Heights, CA
Date: February 25, 2006
Time: 11:30 a.m.

If you have any other questions or suggestions, feel free to email me
at lareina2@... .

Thanks,

Rosalinda

Help/Ayuda/Por Favor

Message from Joseph Puentes makas@...

as in the words of our new webmaster:

"we need people to play around with the site and give some feedback and
let us know if there are any problems with the way it functions."

go on there and just upload some files and then delete them and make a
folder and then delete it. Let's make sure the site works good.

have a look at: http://nuestrosranchos.org

let us know what you think. No rush but eventually say by the end of
Spring or so I hope to be fully moved over to the new site and
completely off the Yahoo group. Yeah I know that new things are always a
pain to get used to but believe me this is for our good.

And yes there is a certain amount of flexibility in the functionality of
the group. I can't say how soon but if your suggestion is a good one and
can be done with a reasonalble amount of time invested we can consider
your ideas.

so look around and let us know what you think and if you have some ideas
or comments.

CONVERTING PAF/ENGLISH TO PAF/SPANISH

Message from Yolanda Medina-Perez windrocklili@...

First of all THANKS to all who responded to my question about using
DE in a surname... I'm sure other members new to genealogy as well as
those more seasoned in this "obsession" continue to learn from other
members. KUDOS.. TO THOSE WHO TAKE THE TIME AND MAKE AN EFFORT TO
SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES.
I recently attended a genealogy meeting where they mentioned that
there was a PAF program in Spanish and I was wondering if I could
convert my Paf/english to PAF/spanish. If this were possible it would
make it possible to give family reports to our family members that do
not read English. Is this possible or am I dreaming???

"Aya en los Nuestros Ranchos"/Volunteer's Needed

Message from Joseph Puentes makas@...

Okay the new
"Nuestros Ranchos"
website is ready for Beta Testing and we're looking for a few volunteers

Our resident
webmaster guru
extraordinaire, Arturo Ramos has put forth a tremendous amount of work
in
getting the website designed and built. He truly is a one man show and
I'm sure
you will like and appreciate his hard work that will benefit the long
term
existence of the Ranchos group. Without this effort I truly believe the
Ranchos
group would have dissolved in a few years, but now I see the
possibility that
the children of some of the members might be able to take the reigns
one day.

here is the
website's URL:

http://nuestrosranchos.org

Have a look
around and if you would like
to volunteer to test the site, please follow the instructions that are
posted
on the website.  [NOTE: this group is meant to eventually be a
replacement
for the Yahoo Groups Ranchos/Ranchos2. having said that I understand
that any
time you introduce something new there needs to be a certain amount of
transition time involved. So for you Beta Testers may unfortunately
receive two
copies of some messages posted.  That is part of the drawback of having
the two sites up and running simultaneously and making sure that
everyone
receives all of the messages, regardless where they are posted.
Eventually
we'll move everyone over to the new group and the double posting will
stop. ]

If anything
at all is unclear or if you
have questions about this or the group or anything ask away. If I can't
answer
I'm sure Arturo can and if he can't we'll strive to get the information.

Here's to
our future together,

If you would
like to be a beta tester,
please follow the following instructions to access your account (which
has
already been set up):

Your
account’s password is not set, so
in order to log in, you will have to request a new password so the
system can
create one.  The new password will be sent to the email registered on
your
YahooGroups account and once you receive your new password, you can log
and
change it to whatever you like.  In order to do this, go to the
following
website address and follow the instructions.

messages or upload files to the
new site, you can follow the instructions at:

TO ADD OR NOT TO ADD "DE" IN A SURNAME?

Message from Yolanda Medina-Perez windrocklili@...

HOW DO RANCHOS MEMBERS HANDLE THIS, IT HAS BECOME A CONFUSING DILEMA
FOR ME. I PUT IN ROBALCAVA AND FOR HIS DAUGHTER I FIND HER AS DE
ROBALCAVA....I LATER CAN'T FIND HER UNTIL I REMEMBER TO LOOK
UNDER "DE". I NEED SOME GUIDANCE FROM YOU EXPERIENCED GENEALOGISTS.

Monica:

There are some interesting entries in the familysearch website for potential matches to the family you are looking for. The mother's surname does not match, but that is not as uncommon as you may think.

Hi, Mu name is Monica Medina, i'm mexican currently living in Montpellier, France.

I've started my genealogical research and I have roots in Zacatecas, this are the names:

Ines de la Rosa Sandoval (my greatgrand mother) was daugther of Juan de la Rosa and Narcisa Sandoval. They come from Fresnillo, Zacatecas I haven't found more information on dates, but I keep on researching.

Also, for the family of my mom I know that Ontiveros surname comes from Zacatecas, but i'm not 100% sure, does anyones knows if this is true?

Thank you,
Monica

Southern California meeting-- Important Reminder!

Message from rosa9972 lareina2@...

The RSVP deadline (the 15th) is looming for the first Southern
California Ranchos Meeting. You still have an opportunity to
respond-- and please do so. I want the meeting to be a great
success. Some had responded months ago stating that they would like
to attend, but I haven't heard from them since. Maybe you never
mentioned that you would like to attend, but now you realize that
February 25th is doable.

Whatever your situation, please let me know at
lareina2@... or rosalindamruiz@... if you plan to
attend, so I can send you information and we can order food for
you. As you know, the more people who come, the merrier, and I
would love to meet you. Please don't be shy!

As a reminder:
