Hope all had a good holiday season.  A resolution of mine is to get back to my genealogical research even though brick walls can be so frustrating!
The link is to the "report" by the bishop of Guadalajara's visit to Monterrey in 1741.  I'd like  help translating what is said on the bottom of the right hand side of image 195.  Specifically what is written about Martin Arrambide, my 7xgrandfather.  I believe he's being appointed to start a school, but I'm wondering if his age or nationality are mentioned.

Re: the Sotelo family, the Martin Cortes conspiracy

In a comment to Lawrence Bouett's post about the parentage of Francisca Gabay, I provided a link to a text where there is interesting information about Diego Sotelo and his family. Below is the title of the text, which I should have included in my comment:

If you are interested in Leonor Valderrama Moctezuma and Diego Sotelo and their fate in the 1560's, you might find parts of this text interesting. For example, Diego's family was living in Michoacan while he was on trial - by that time, Leonor was dead and he had married Dona Maria Tramuel.Diego's parents and where they came from in Spain are also named in the text (under testimony by his brother Baltasar).

If you are a descendent of Cristobal Onate and Catalina Salazar, there is a section on him as well, as he was one of those accused of being part of the Martin Cortes conspiracy.

There are other cases (persons) in this text, but these two are the ones I focused on...

Francisco Garcia Salinas (1786-1841) Secretaria de Hacienda. Originally from Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. I want to post this link because it has an actual painting of one of personalities of the local people. I am fascinated with actual paintings of local people from colonial times to see what they looked like back then:

I have had extraordinary success in conducting research on a friend's (primarily) Jalisco genealogy, much of it back to the late 16th- and early 17th-Centuries; but there remain several brick walls that are much more recent. Here are two of them:

José Navarro and Juana Flores are the parents of María Macedonia Navarro Flores. Macedonia, as she was known, married José Juan Campos (of the Martín del Campo line) Maldonado 07 January 1884 in Tecualtitán, Zapotlán del Rey. Her age was given in the record as 20, the daughter of José Navarro and Juana Flores. She was "... originaria y vecina de las Presas ...". I have been unable to find any further information about her birth date (and even location, for that matter), nor anything further about her parents, except that they are listed as abuelos in records of the births of Macedonia's children. Any information on this puzzle is greatly appreciated.

And even more recently: Sylviano Gonzalez married María Aurelia Reynoso in Guadalajara 03 March 1928. Sylviano's parents are given as Perfecto Gonzalez and María Josefina de Jesús Barba Ruíz. Both Perfecto and Josefina are listed in the 1930 census, and Perfecto's birth place is given as Zacatecas in the census. I have been able to trace Josefina's lineage back multiple generations, but Perfecto Gonzalez is a complete mystery to me. Again, any information is greatly appreciated.

Sometimes, these modern 'brick walls' persist for a long time; I went for more than 25 years without documentation for one of my own great-grandfathers, but when I was finally able to climb over the brick wall, I found him in Maryland and his family in Germany for multiple generations.

These two Mexican puzzles have confounded me for more than a year and a half.

one day while i was browsing through marriage dispensations, i found one for her son juan jose hernandez. it's in the link below

when i saw the written dispensation on pages 600-602, it states that celedonio fernandez is her father. i suspect that her dad is my 6th great-grandfather. in order to prove that, i would need to know who her mother is. if no one here knows her name, does anyone at least have an idea when and where did she get marraied with manuel hernandez

I am searching for the file that was in our resources but can't find now, it had the hand written notes of Mr. De La Torre who wrote the book that I think I sold to a nuestros ranchos member.. does anyone remember this file on the de la Torre family from Tepetongo?

The dish you describe sounds exactly like a recipe my Dad and Aunt taught
me how to make. Only they called it "Mole de Rancho". My grandparents are
from Los Altos de Jalisco and I was told that it was a recipe my paternal
grandmother used to make. It was one of my Dad's favorite dishes and now
mine too.

I am trying to print reports (in files) of the data base i have starting with my 6th grand father. There is an option to print a book, and at the end of it make an list in alphabetical order of each person. But even though the list appears in the previous do not appear in the final document. What I am doing wrong?

Estoy tratando de hacer un reporte en un documento a partir de la base de datos que tengo en el programa PAF comenzando desde mi 6o abuelo pero al final con las generaciones más nuevas el documento resulta muy extenso y quisiera poder incluir listas por orden alfabético de los individuos.

Voy a Reportes y en reportes escojo Book y uno de los cuadritos a elegir es el de hacer listas. Lo escojo pero aún así no me aparece la lista de los individuos. Termina con la última generación y ya. A pesar de que en el previou si aparece como si se fuesen a imprimir las listas.

My family at that time was a Rancho De Los Maderas about 30 minutes away.

I am interested in that recipe. My ancestors are from San Juan de los Lagos, and I don't have any recipes from that area. Please share. It does sound Spanish, with the almonds and all.

My mother used to make a dish called "Cuachala" that she described as having its origins in Tamazula de Gordiano, Jal. It is a thick broth made primarily from gallina and masa. I remember a healthy amount of dried chile flakes as well. Although she was originally from Sinaloa and immigrated to San Francisco, CA with my widowed grandmother, she met my father there. After they married and had two daughters, he moved his family back to his hometown of Tamazula. My mother integrated herself to life in that small town. When she returned (after my sister's and my births), she came back to S.F. with many friends there and a mastery of cuachala making. She left the recipe but only my older sister, Carmen, has attempted to make it.

What do we do when we find that, for example, the parents named in one document are entirely different from those in another (I don't mean the difference between Jose and Josef, but entirely different people). I have a couple, Jose Vicente Gomes and Maria Joaquina Franco, who when they married gave there parents' names as: Groom: Francisco Gregorio Gomez and Maria Antonio Martin del Campo Bride: Manuel Julian Jimenez and Gertrudes Garcia de Alba

I have a friend's genealogy well-documented from online images of the original registers (from FamilySearch) through Ýsabel de Tiscareño Romo de Vibar (bau. 04 de agosto de 1675), "... hija legitima de el Capitán Juan de Tiscareño y Dª Ýsabel Romo de Vivar ...". Does anyone have proof that this Juan de Tiscareño is the same person who was baptised in Aguas Calientes el 12 de nobiembre de 1638, "... Juº hijo legitimo de Luís de los Reyes y Juª de Vargas ..."? Also, does anyone have proof of the birth (baptism) of the Ýsabel Romo de Vivar mentioned above? Ýsabel was buried "... en la Yglesia de San Diego ..." (en Aguas Calientes) el 15 de junio de 1692 "... mujer de Juan Tiscareño ...".

I have documented nine children of this couple in Aguascalientes between about 1558 (Margarita) and about 1678 (Nicolás)—I have located baptismal records of six of the nine—and I am reasonably confident about two- to three generations beyond Ýsabel, but I lack proof that her husband, Juan de Tiscareño, is the same person named in the 1638 baptism.

Everything quoted is from one or more of the online images of the original parish registers. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

he estado por un tiempo buscando el linaje de mi primer apeido (DE ALBA)he encontrado documentacion hasta el anyo 1796 donde nacio la nina ma. feliciana de alva barrera hija de rafael de alba y tranquilina barrera sin informacion alguna otro nino nacio en 1800 aprox de nombre antonio de alba (este es mi linea)y este se caso con agustina gutierrez, cabe mencionar que ma. feliciana de alba se caso con jose de jesus gutierrez en jalostotitlan jalisco, el asunto que en la fe de bautizmo de ma. feliciana se dice que hija mestiza esto me hace pensar que el padre (RAFAEL DE ALBA) podria ser espanol o los padres de el... si alguien esta siguiendo esta lina por favor contactenme me seria de grande su ayuda GRACIAS....
