ANY HELP

Hello, does anyone know anything on Sebastián Díaz de Sandi's wife Juana Gertrudis Marín, they should have married ca. 1712. They had at least Sebastián Onofré 1713 and Miguel 1717. Sebastián (I) parent's are Diego Díaz y Montáñez and Jacinta Carillo de Sandi.

First let me correct the list of children for Juan MARTINES CALBILLO and Josepha AGUILERA De Sandi given in my previous posting:
Anttonia, c. 1671, is not their child, she was the daughter of Ygnasio MARTINEZ CALVILLO and Juana SOTELO de Jaen.

Let me start off by saying thank you for sharing.
I have a many questions.
How do I look up your e-mail address?
How do i look up aguascalientes films online?
andres munoz and lorenza ticascareno's marriage record shows his parents as alonso munoz de hermosillo and Luisa de Nava. Are they the same couple married on 11/aug/1669 in aguascalientes listed as Alonso Peres and Luisa de Nava?
sotero calvilo's son Juan Evangelista Calvillo is married to simona Corro Silva, daughter of Jose antonio Corro Escandon and Josefa Mariana de Silba y Norona
they were married on 13 /jul1788 in aguas film # 29832. Have you heard of these names. I was hoping to be able to go online to look up their records.
>From the dispenstion you sent me I was able to connect Teresa munoz de hermosillo with the rest of the ruiz de esparz and tiscareno families in my tree.
jose sotero's wife is Maria gertrudis Avila Diaz de trevino daughter of jose antonio de avila and maria ines diaz de tiscareno i do not any one beyond these two parents.
Thanks again for all your help,
rick

And yes Cristobal RUIZ ESPARZA Lozano is the son of Bernardo RE and Catalina LOZANO. [thank you Bill Figueroa for both facts].

I don't know anything about Vicente MARTINEZ CALVILLO or Da. Geronima XIMENEZ de Alvarado.

Re Jose Sotero CALVILLO or MARTINEZ CALVILLO:
I have the following two notes, which may be about him:

Dear Victor:
I joined this group one week ago hoping to find information regarding Sabina Jaime/Jayme. I started researching my family history just 2 months ago and have hit quite a roadblock with Sabina, my paternal great grandmother. My grandfather was Jesus Mora, brother to Maria de la Luz. I will share with you the information that I think is linked to her and some questions/theories to explain the difficulty we are having.
First, I have found the same information in regards to her baptism, marriage, immigration and death all inconsistent. Frustrating!
-I have found birth years ranging from 1868 to 1878. From speaking with those familiar with the customs at the time and place, it would not be unusual to marry at 14, 15 or 16. I've wondered if it is possible that she changed her birth year when she came to the US since this was not the custom there. Somewhere in my notes I have her "from Santa Maria" of which there are many in that area of Aguascalientes.
-I found that she had 1 sister, Norberta Jaime (1848). Both have Refugio Jaime and Donaciana Pedroza as parents. I would like to talk to someone familiar with the traditions and culture during that time. I know in the Jewish culture if one is near death they have a renaming ceremony to "trick" the angel of death. Perhaps there is something similar in Mexico and Sabina was raised by someone other than her parents after a tragedy (that maybe took their life?) and she was "rebaptized" and renamed?
-In the 1970's when my grandparents were still alive, my aunt did our family tree. So according to oral history she lists Sabina's parents as Lasaro Nunez and Teresa Lopez with a note "Raised by Refugio Jaime" The way it is written I'm not sure if Sabina or Lasaro was raised by Refugio. I asked people that were born in Mexico and they said that it would not be unusual for one to take the surname of the person who raised them. I will see the aunt who made this tree in about 2 weeks so I will ask her about this and any other questions we come up with. I have searched and searched for Sabina under Jaime/Jayme/Nunez/Lopez/Pedroza/Muniz/Munis/Munos and have come up empty. Also, one record attached to her lists her as Ma. Sabina Jaime which is not unusual.
-Maybe one us can request and actually view the film that the marriage information comes from. I have found many typos while searching the familysearch.org site. When I view the actual film, I can see sometimes why a typo was made. Perhaps "Muniz is Nunez?"
-I have spent many hours pouring over films and in the church records from Mexico, Mora appears over and over. Tomas Mora married a Moran so I think that was not a change by border patrol.
-My cousins mother told her stories about Sabina. She taught her mother about herbal medicine and natural healing. She recalls that it was mentioned that Sabina had a very dark complexion and perhaps was whole or part Indian. I think some churches had separate records for Indian baptisms.
These are the things that have kept me intrigued. Maybe together we can put the pieces of her puzzle togehter. I am also interested in finding out when Narciso's family came from Spain. Half of my aunts and uncles were fair with light hair and light eyes, the other half were darker with dark hair and eyes. Family stories say this is because of Spanish in our line. Let's figure this out.

Groom name: Antonio Martinez

Name: Miguel Mora
Residence: Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco, Mexico
Christening date: 28 Jun 1893
Christening place: Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco, Mexico
Birth date:
Birth place:
Father name: Nasario Mora

Name: Miguel Mora
Residence: Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco, Mexico
Christening date: 04 Feb 1895
Christening place: Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco, Mexico
Birth date:
Birth place:
Father name: Narziso Mora

Name: Narciso Mora
Home in 1920: Justice Precinct 8, El Paso, Texas
Age: 60 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1860
Birthplace: Mexico
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: Sabina
Father's Birth Place: Mexico
Mother's Birth Place: Mexico
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Sex: Male
Home owned: Rent
Year of Immigration: 1915
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Image: 1159

Name: Narcisso Mora
Home in 1930: Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California
Age: 65
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1865
Birthplace: Mexico
Relation to Head of House: Head
Race: Mexican (Latino)

Name: Narciso G Mora
Social Security #: 0
Sex: MALE
Birth Date: 27 Oct 1868
Birthplace: Mexico
Death Date: 29 Jun 1942
Death Place: Los Angeles
Mother's Maiden Name: Mora
FATHER'S SURNAME: Mora

Name: Sabina Jaime
Residence: Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco, Mexico
Christening date: 13 Jan 1878
Christening place: Encarnacion De Diaz, Jalisco, Mexico
Birth date:
Birth place:
Father name: Alvino Jaime
Father name note:
Mother name: Yrinca Hernandez
Mother name note:
Gender: Female
Death date:
Name note:
UDE batch number: I07874-9
Date range:
Record group: Mexico-EASy
Film number: 1155479
Collection: Mexico Baptisms 1700-1900

Books on Yahualica, Cuquio, Jal, Nochistlan, Zac.

While we are on the subject of books and historians, does anyone know if
there are any books on Yahualica or Cuquio, Jalisco? Or on Nochistlan,
Zac?

Raquel,

Two books about the first families that settled in Nochistlán and the surrounding areas are:

1.. "NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS, Su Parroquia, Los Durán y otras familias antiguas. Estudio Histórico-Genealógico" by Ing. Jesús Durán Rodríguez.

2.. "GENEALOGIA DE NOCHISTLAN, Antiguo Reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII, según sus Archivos
Parroquiales" by José Luis Vásquez y Rodríguez de Frías.
Both are out of print but can be found at the Genealogy Section of some Public Libraries in the US. Usually this type of book is not in circulation for reference only.

Thanks for getting back to me. Luckily, I own a copy of the second book. I
hope to spend a day in the Boston Library this summer, checking out what
they have. I'll look for NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS. Do you know whether it
includes the story of the history of the city, in addition to genealogical
references?

Raquel,

The book "NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS..." by Ing. Jesús Durán Rodríguez includes
bits-and-pieces of the history of Nochistlán, but it deals primarily with
the genealogy of the first Spanish settlers. It is not intended as a
history book. I found it very interesting and helpful. I was lucky enough
to get a copy shortly after the author died 8-10 years ago. I don't think
there will be a reprint.

I cannot remember the title of another book I have that deals with the four
locations of the capital of Nueva Galicia. As I recall the first one was
Santiago de Compostela, then Nochistlán, then Tonalá (?) and finally
Guadalajara. Not sure, but I can check. If you're interested I can look
for the book next time I go to the warehouse (too many books at home, so I
had to rent a climate-controlled ministorage to keep some of them).

Hello Bill
I would really be interested in getting a look at Duran's book. Is it in any library?
Thanks Rick

Thanks for getting back to me. Luckily, I own a copy of the second book. I
hope to spend a day in the Boston Library this summer, checking out what
they have. I'll look for NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS. Do you know whether it
includes the story of the history of the city, in addition to genealogical
references?

Hello Rick,

I really don't know if any library here in the US has it, but the LDS
Library in Salt Lake City might have a copy. I understand that some of
their books have been microfilmed, otherwise you would have to visit their
library in SLC. Availability can be checked online at the FamilySearch
website It is worth a shot. I think it is an excellent book about the
genealogies of Nochistán and the surrounding areas. The introduction is by
Professor Mariano González Leal.

Hello Bill
I would really be interested in getting a look at Duran's book. Is it in any
library?
Thanks Rick

For Joseph Puente Roman/Orosco

Joseph, I'm working on marriage information records and came across this one, not sure it's the right family but thought you might want to see it.

Recorded 10 May 1794 in Jerez
Jose Marcial Roman, Espanol age 38 from San Juan

Diego Lopes de Nava

I am trying to find information on Diego Lopes de Nava and Juana Gertrudes Flores.

He was born about 1720/30, probably in Aguascalientes, and married Juana Gertrudes Flores. They had at least one child, Maria Teresa Lopes de Nava, who married Jose Pantaleon Sandoval (date unknown); she died 14 Jul 1786, and was buried at Nuestra Sra. de Guadelupe, Aguascalientes. Jose Pantaleon Sandoval married again in 1787, Maria Ignacia Lopes de Nava (daughter of Jose Eulogio Lopes de Nava and Maria Antonia Romo de Vivar).

I was trying to find any Nava married to a Flores de la Torre around 1675 or so as a lead to start. Does anyone have such a couple?

Orden Imperial de Guadalupe

Dear Grupo,
I came across this online: Orden Imperial de Guadalupe Establecida conforme al Decreto de la Junta Soberana Provincial Gubernativa de 20 de Febrero de 1822 confirmada el 11 de Julio del mismo ano. Does anyone know what this refers to? Thanks so much for your help. Alice BB

Dear Patty,
My Spanish is not what it should be; even so, I found the information to be extremely interesting! As I continue researching my ggggrandfather, Jose Maria Santelices, I found that he is again named in the Constitucion of 1836,in the Articulos Transitorios number 8: Los periodos de duracion que prefijan las leyes constitucionales a todos los funcionarios que van a ser electos con arreglo a las presentes prevenciones, comenzaran a contarse desde el 19 de enero de 1837, sea cual fuere el dia en que comiencen a ejercer los nombrados.

If I'm not mistaken, it goes on to list representatives from the Departamentos of Mexico in alphabetical order. Jose Maria Santelices appears in the Departamento de Puebla. Again, I appreciate your input.
Sincerely, Alice BB

hola,

Saludos
Patty Haro

Good Evening Juan,
It's good to know that it exists and hopefully is possible to access. The internet is a such a wealth of information(and since I'm in Texas); I'll start there. Thank you so much for your lead. I truly appreciate all the help I can get. ABB

Hi Alice,

When I was a student at Stanford I did see a book that had the names of
governors of Zacatecas. If I remember correctly, it did have information for
the 19th century. The book was in Green or Meyer Library. I'm not sure how you
can look it up, but I thought I would let you know I've seen the book that you
are looking for.

Estimada Alice,

Ordinarias : Gran Cruz, limitado a 30 miembros, Gran Oficial, limitado a 100
miembros. Comandante, limitado a 200 miembros. y Caballero, limitado a 500
miembros.

estan varios documentos, fotos, retratos, litografias, nombramientos y
condecoraciones de la Orden de Guadalupe. Es bastante interesante.

Hasta pronto.

Juan Aguayo

Dear Rodolfo,
Thank you so much for the explanation. In my research of my gggrandfather, Jose Maria Santelices, I came across a portion of this book online. It named Caballeros Grandes Cruces, Caballeros de Numero, Caballeros Supernumerarios, and at least two or three other classifications, last of which was simply Caballeros. My family used the names Jose Maria and Francisco Santelices interchangably, and it's my understanding that the Jose Maria Santelices named here as a Caballero Supernumerario is the same Lic. Jose Maria Santelices named as secretary in the Mexican Declaration of Independence of 1810.

In further persuit of my Santelices information, I need to access a list of the 19th Century governors of Zacatecas. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could find such a list? Again, thank you so very much for your information.
Sincerely, Alice BB

Estimada Alice,

Comandante, limitado a 200 miembros. y Caballero, limitado a 500 miembros.

Comandante, limitado a 200 miembros. y Caballero, limitado a 500 miembros.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows who Caterina, daughter of don Marcos Pedroza and María López de Nava, married? Her daughter was my ancestor's first wife. Juana Izzazi y Martín del Campo or Cuevas. I think her paternal grandparents were Nicolás Martín del Campo and Sebastiana Izzazi y Cuevas, hence the Izzazi y Martín del Campo. Juana was also known as Juana Izzazi y Cuevas. So I KNOW for a fact she descended from the same alteño Izazzi.

Thanks, Richard! I cant believe it. I already had this couple in my vast database! What drove me off was I had Catarina de la Pedroza in my database "hija de Marcos Pedroza y María de Nava" and in another part of my database I had her listed as Catalina López de Nava, hija de Marcos Pedroza and María Lopes. I need to check where and when she is listed as López de Nava. I know at least one document she uses her mother's name. I need to cite my sources on my PAF more often, but when I was younger I was ignorant at the fact, the importance of citing for future refernce. I have María and Juana both using there grandmother's surname Izazzi y Cuevas. Juana Izzazi y Cuevas (or Izzazi y Martín del Campo) married my ancestor Nicolás Díaz y Tiscareño bef 1731 not sure when, perhaps you do, Richard? They at least had one daughter Fabiana D. y. Tsño. Juana died in Aug 1730, a year later Nicolás married my 7x grt grandmother, Dionicia de la Pedroza, this marriage on 5 apr 1731 in Lagos de Moreno required a dispensa which I have becuase Dionicia was 2nd cousin to Juana Izzazi y Cuevas. They had Nicolás Miguel Díaz Tiscareño baptized 1734 in Ojuelos, who had J. Joaquín

Díaz Tiscareño abt 1765 who had Ma. Guadalupe Díaz Tiscareño abt 1785 en "La Chona" who had José Antonio Rubio de Borbón 1814 in Tepa, who had María Dariía Atilana Rubio de Borbón in 1856 who had Lucía de Serrano 1887 who had my grandfather Martín Méndez 1917 who had my father J. Gabriel Méndez 1956 who had me. -Daniel Camino

The dispensa I have for Nicolás and Dionicia says that Caterina was hija de Marcos de la Pedroza y María López de Nava. In return, María is daughter of Mateo de Macías y Valadés and Catalina López de Nava, hence why I think Catarina or Catalina used Nava intercchangeably. Im not sure what her name is Ive seen Catalina and Catarina, very common to get these named wrong throughout the period! I can provide citation for the dispensa if needed. -Daniel Camino

I need help translating a short historical discription of Salinas, San
Luis Potosí. Following is the original, and my attempted translation,
which I think is mostly correct. Any help would be appreciated.

Source:
http://www.adabi-ac.org/publicaciones/descargas/inventarios/92_WEB_Parr…

---------------------------------------------------------------

The parish of Salinas de Peñón Blanco near to the city of San Luis
Potosí under the patronage of Nuestro Padre Jesús, whose festivity
is celebrated the first Friday of the month of March. The municipio
to which it belongs borders on Ramón, Santo Domingo, Charcas, Venado
and Moctezuma ...

The evangelistic acts in Salinas were organized, after the Conquest,
by the Franciscans.

Before it was constituted a parish it was a modest chapel (1600)
that was attended by Franciscans, Augustinian missionaries, and
finally by the Diocesian clergy. In 1799 the chapel was under the
jurisdiction of the parish of Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, and about that
same year was made a parish whose jurisdiction included Real de
Ramos, el Carro, Noria de Ángeles, and Espíritu Santo.

The parish of Salinas was first part of the Diocesian curatage(?) of
Guadalajara until 1855; then it belonged to that of San Luis Potosí
(1863), afterward to that of Zacatecas (1920), and from 1920 it
returned to join what is now the archbishopric of San Luis Potosí.

Some temples that were under the pastoral care of the parish of
Salinas, were transformed in a short time into parishes, in the same
manner as did Noria de los Ángeles, Espíritu Santo, Villa de Ramos,
and Salitral de Carrera y Hernández.

MORAN and MARTINES-CALBILLO / LOPES

For Bill Figueroa, re Moran & Martines-Calbillo / Lopes

Bill, I have several questions about the family of Domingo MORAN and his wife Antonia MARTINES-CALBILLO / LOPES. Where does the LOPES come in with Antonia MARTINES-CALBILLO? Are their parents named in their wedding document [4 Aug 1665]?

Comment

Bill and others,
I was checking the marriage record of Domingo Moran with Antonia Martinez-Calvillo, and found some interesting details about Antonia's name. I've transcribed the record below. Note that her name was first recorded as Maria (left margin), but in the body text as Antonia. Maria was changed at a later date to Josepha, and since they were not 'velados' the day of their wedding, a note to that effect was entered (velados 9 marzo 1666). I found that document (transcribed below) and Antonia is identified as Josepha Calvillo. Finally, Domingo is referred in both documents as Viudo. Any idea who was his first wife?
Got JPG of both documents if anyone wants to see them.

Jaime,

I checked several church records and all refer to Domingo Moran's wife as Antonia Calvillo, or Antonia Martínez Calvillo. For example, when she died in 1675 her burial record, dated 28 May 1675 says "fue enterrada Antonia Calbillo, muger que fue de Domingo Moran. No testó".

The baptismal records of her five children, all born between 1665-1675, name their mother as Antonia Calvillo. Therefore, the fact that her marriage record had her first as María, then Antonia and finally as Josepha, indicates to me that the priest was not sure of her name when he made the entry in the books.

I doesn't surprise me that Domingo Morán was a widower when he married Antonia Calvillo. He remarried a year after Antonia died His last wife was Nicolasa Vásquez (aka Nicolasa Martel) whom he married on 13 May 1676 in Aguascalientes. Domingo Morán was buried 25 Dec 1686 also in Aguas. Nicolasa survived him by six years until she died in 1692. She was buried in Aguascalientes 18 Jan 1692.

I would appreciate it if you could send me the two scans of his wedding to Antonia Calvillo.

Gloria,

Domingo Morán and Antonia Martínez Calvillo were married in Aguascalientes on 4 Aug 1665. As far as I know, they had the following children:
1.. Joseph Morán Martínez who married María López de Saldaña
2.. Juan Morán Martínez who married Juana de Montoya
3.. Domingo Morán Martínez, no additional information.
4.. Nicolás Morán Martínez, who died infant.
5.. Nicolás Martínez Morán (second with that name) who married Andrea Alonso de los Hinojos (aka Andrea Ruiz de Esparza)
Antonia Martínez Calvillo died in Aguascalientes on 28 May 1675. The following year Domingo Morán married Nicolasa Vázquez (aka Nicolasa Martel) in Aguascalientes (13 May 1676). They had no children. Domingo died ten years later on 25 Dec 1686. His second wife died on 18 Jan 1692.

Antonia Martínez Calvillo appears in some documents with the surname López Calvillo. I still haven't figured out why. She was mostly known as Antonia Calvillo. The parents of Domingo Morán and Antonia Martínez Calvillo are not mentioned in their marriage record.

Hope this helps.

IGI marriage records

Just a simple question.

I understand that the present method probably is quicker and saves time for the original document-recorder person in 99% of the time; but WHY does that person (who creates these documents) NOT bother to include the names of the parents of the newlyweds ???? If the parent's names are not on the record or illegible, that can be noted on the IGI just as easily.

Comments

Comment

In cases the parents names are included and in others they are not.

But, the main reason why it was not included, is that the LDS extraction workers were instructed to only extract the date, name of the bride and groom. And usually many of the extraction workers, did not or do not even now read Spanish.

So, that is why we have to go to the microfilms.

Jonathan

Comment

I assumed it was something along those reasons.

Is there ANY way that we could edit / amend / add to those IGI records that are in existance?

Or, are we doomed to accept them "as is" forever?

Can anyone tell me how to find a marriage record for a couple when you do
not have the location or date of their marriage other than a general
approximation? Perhaps other documents, land records or other court records
might contain this information? I am trying to locate a marriage record for
Benigno Cabral and Pioquinta Gonzalez Figueroa. He was born in Huejucar,
Jalisco in 1828 and she was born in Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco in 1834.
Their first three children were born in Huejuquilla El Alto in 1852, 1855,
and 1856, then the next child was born in 1864 in Aguascalientes,
Aguascalientes. So, I'm thinking they were married about 1851. The family
story is that they were married in Zacatecas.

Thanks,

Saludos.

Sagrada Mitra....Daniel Camino

Daniel, how can I access the scans of Sagrada Mitra de Guadalajara? Thank you, Raymond Medrano

Comment

Daniel, thank you.  I'm not sure if the Sagrada Mitra covers 1860 to 1890, if so I have the following:
Vartolo Prieto and Cruz Garcia married (yr ?) and had daughter Juana Prieto Garcia (Christened May 8, 1862 in San Miguel, Yahualica). Juana Prieto Garcia married Emeterio Delgadillo Jaurigui on January 29, 1885 in Nochistlan, Zacatecas (or was it Jalostotitlan, Jalisco?)
I also have the following:
Estevan Delgadillo married Norverta De Jaurigui and had son Emeterio Delgadillo Jaurigui (Christened March 4, 1866 at Nuestra Senora De La Asuncio, Jalostotitlan, Jalisco...or was it Nochistlan, Zacatecas?)
So far I'm just not sure if I've connected the correct players.
Thanks again,
Raymond Medrano

Corrine,

By any chance are there any records for people from Tlajomulco de Zuniga, Guadalajara in the film you are reading?

My husbands grandfather Longinos Bugarin was said to be from there. His parents were Mateo Bugarin and Claudia de Avila, he was born about 1868. I find it curious that all his siblings were born in Tepechitlan, Zacatecas yet he was from Tlajomulco. Please let me know if there are records for this place.

Thanks in advance, Yolanda

Martinez married Aguilar, which then married Macias that had married D'avila. So the family would have to have one of these combinations or both.

Comment

Are there dates or first names for any of these surnames?

Sofia:

Reiterating Linda's question about first names and dates, it is very important to be specific about the questions posed to the group. Given the size of the group and the amount of collective research done by the group a general question about the "Avilas" will inevitably yield responses that are not relevant.

We want to keep the group focused on serious genealogical research which means documenting one generation at a time.

Can you please provide specific names (including first names), places and dates for the people you are researching?

Lopez de Lizardi

I recently advanced my research considerably by going to the Salt Lake City
Library. I added Juan Delgado m. 4 Mar 1669 to Margarita Lopez de Lizardi
at the Sagrario, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes to my database.

Thank you Bill and Daniel for your responses.

Your answers raised more questions. Daniel, you say that the source is the
marriage of Juan Delgado and Francisca Tiscareno. What is the date and
place of this marriage? Are you saying that Juan Delgado is listed
as "Viudo de Margarita Lopez de Lizardi" at the time of his marriage to
Francisca Tiscareno? That is the only way to be certain that we are talking
about the same individual. Juan Delgado is a fairly common name.

Bill, you are so right about the timeline being way off. I didn't double
check when I first read the e-mail, but I haven't input anything into my
database until I can get my hands on the actual documents. Thanks for
catching that.

Maria,

I've uploaded Maria DELGADO's (my 6x great-grandmother) pedigree tree here: http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/filemanager/active?fid=2917. I think it might be of help or interest interest.

Also, I have 13 children for Juan DELGADO and Margarita LOPES DE LISARDI. I'd be glad to send you their info. Drop me a note at dexaime@excite.com.

Just out of curiosity I did a search on Gabay and this is what I got: 'The meaning of the name Gabai is 'Public official; synagogue attendant'.

Saludos,
Luis

Daniel,

Thank you very much for the info. Can you tell me your source for Juan
Delgado's parents?

It makes sense that Juana de Gabay could be Petronila's daughter since the
name, place and time period fit. I'll have to look for evidence to be
certain.

María,

Juan Delgado was a son of Joseph Delgado and Francisca Tiscareño (aka Francisca Gabai). Francisca was a daughter of Luis Tiscareño de Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza. Lorenza was the daughter of Lope Ruiz de Esparza and Francisca Gabai de Moctezuma. Sooooo... Francisca Tiscareño was a great-granddaughter of Petronila de Moctezuma, NOT her daughter. I think Daniel was shooting from the hip on this one. Sorry, Daniel. Look at the timeline!!

Also, Gabai (also spelled Gabaii, Gabay,Gabadi) is not of Moorish origin but of Basque origin instead.

Opps, I didnt see that one! I think I meant grandaughter of Lope instead not Petronila! It was late last night! -Daniel

Daniel,

In a book I picked up in Navarra, Spain, "Apellidos Vascos" by Luis Michelena, I find names like Gabi, Arrumburu, Navarro, Lizargain, Lexarralde, etc., so I think your Gabay and Lizaralde are not Moorish, but Basque

Hi Maria, yes the two families are the same, I have always wondered about the two spellings, Ive seen (López or Lopes) de Elizalde, Elisalde, Lizardo, Lizaldi, Lisardo, Elisardo, Elisalide, etc... the list goes on. I am also related to them. I am not sure who the parents of Margarita are but have a hunch. As for Juan Delgado de Gabay his parents are José Delgado

and Francisca Navarro de Gabay. Jose is son of Diego Delgado and Juana de Gabay. I think she is the daughter of Petronila Moctezuma, but havent found any evidence. Maybe someone in the hroup knows about Juana? Back to Juan's mother, Francisca Navarro de Gabay daughter of Luís Tiscareño de Molina and Lorenza Ruiz de Esparza (I), who is daughter of Lope Ruiz de Esparza. The rest of the genealogy is history! Hope this helps in a nutshell! I guess were related at least 7 times sincem y father comes from Lope about 3 and my mother comes 4 times from Lope. About Margarita I think her last name López de Elizalde passed maternally (her mother might have been a Elizalde not the father. Ive only seen a few cases in the Elizalde family where this happens not too common with them but it did. -Daniel Camino

Yanez del Monte

I found a mistake in my tree and I was hoping that someone could correct it.

Juan Yanez del Monte and Lorenzo Yanez del Monte are half brothers because they have the same father but different mothers. This is very clearly stated that they had different mothers. My problem is that I do not know which of the two is the son of Geronima Benavides. I have both of them listed. which one should not be there?

Rick,

Lorenzo Yáñez del Monte, who married María Rodríguez de la Mora, was the son
of Gonzalo Yáñez del Monte and Gerónima de Benavides. I found his final will
and testament with some old "Tierras y Aguas" documents and have a complete
transcription. The names of his wife and children are mentioned in his final
will, but I don't remember if he mentions his parents. That information may
be included in "Genealogías de Nochistlán..." by José Luis Vázquez
Rodríguez.

Thanks Bill, Can I have a copy of the will and testament. I mentioned this because there seems to be conflicting information. I believe Jose Luis Vasquez Rodriguez has Juan as being their son yet it is clear in one document that they are half brothers with the same father.
Thanks again Rick

I have confirmed that you are correct. Juan Yanez del Monte is listed as meztizo so he is the one that is the son of "Gonzalo Yanez del monte y una india"

In looking for this evidence I came across two interesting points of view.

1.) that Jose Luis Vasquez Rodriguez also has the parents of alonso peres torello as Diego Rodriguez Herrera (ferriera) and Isabel hernandez munoz like I do.

2.) he has toribio fernandez arellano santillana's wife as the daughter of inigo lopez de mendoza and Maria Laso de fuentes (inigo and maria were related, she was a first cousin to her father-in-law-it sounds funny but the information does match up)

The difference being that I say there is no space in the Perestorello name
I still believe that alonso perestorello comes from the rodriguez perestorello Ferriera Clan

Thanks Bill
