Esclavos Negros en Nueva Galicia

Hola Luz,

http://www.ejournal.unam.mx/ehn/ehn11/EHN01104.pdf

Saludos,
Claudia

Source for Ornelas For those interested

So far my new lost cosuin Stevan and I are researching the Ornelas with detail and trying to find documents proving Alvaro from Lagos de Moreno came from Madeira Islands. I got this from rootsweb. but the link to the actual source appears broken. I will upload the will of Alvaro I later in the week I am busy today!
I think thats where it specifically states them being of La Casa Real de Joao I.

In the short time of twenty six years after the beginning of Madeira, Port

LIFE in Colonial MEXICO , Collection of letters from a woman living in Nueva Espana

Hola !
I am trying to locate the name of a book I used to read online. It was a collection of letters in ingles, from a woman in Collonial Nueva Espana Mejico.

The woman I belive was the wife of perhaps an Ambassador? and wrote to her friend either in the USA or England. The book gave a interesting view point of her travel by ship, by coach from the gulf to the interior, her contact with native peoples, and the nobles on the continent.

The book used to be availble to read online but if not i would just like to know the name.. thank you.

156 Missing Images

At the end of FHL microfilm 635747, after 30 feet or so of blank film, at the extreme end of the roll, are 156 images that have never been digitized. They cover baptisms in San José de Gracia for the years 1790 through 1797. They represent at least 1000 people (I haven't counted them, but they average about 8 records per page). The first 15 of these images are repeats of the previous images on the roll. The rest are unique: they aren't duplicated anywhere else.

For at least five years I have been trying to get someone to digitize these images, but without success. All I've gotten were blank stares, run-arounds, and referals. I even tried to bypass the usual channels and get to people who could make things happen - but all in vain. (Is there a hint of frustration here?) So I went to the library myself and loaded them onto a thumb drive. I didn't set the resolution as high as I should have, and the exposure isn't perfect, but all of the records are readable!

A search on FamilySearch for San José de Gracia from 1790-1797, filtered for the batch number of these images, reveals a strange result: the females have been indexed - the males have not! That's about 500 or 600 males you won't find in your research unless you physically go to the library. My (wife's) direct line ancestors go through SJG between 1790 and 1797, so some of them are found among those missing images.

I've been wondering what I ought to do with these images. Anybody got any ideas? ... ! ... ? ... ?

Dear Primos and Friends:

March was a great month for rejoicing in the public honoring of 24 military heroes from WWII, Korean, or Vietnam War. The government investigated cases of soldiers who been recommended to receive a Medal of Honor, but had been were denied. Racism was suspected.
Finally on March 18th in Washington, DC, a correction was made.
A formal ceremony was held at the Pentagon. Of the 24 who had been denied, 18 had Spanish surnames.

We attained very positive visibility, and increased an understanding of our historic presence. Many, including me, feel that there are other brave soldiers who deserve a Medal of Honor, and are involved in reaching that goal.

March also saw another Latino hero, in the life of Cesar Chavez. His story is told in the "Made One-Step at a Time," a movie playing across the nation. Cesar, a farm labor organizer, gave his life in the effort for fair practices and treatment.

We need heroes, we need outstanding leaders in all area of society.
We have achieved much and given much, but our stories are not known.
United States history does not include our participation to the extent that we should be. Our children and grandchildren should know that we were trying to make our country better, for our own community, but also for everyone's benefit.

Please note, a new category in Somos Primos, Civil Rights Cuentos.
If you were involved in any event, rally, or situation in which you acted in support of equal rights, justice, and understanding, please share with a Cuento.

You'll notice in the Table of Contents below, we have many articles identified as Cuentos. These are first-person accounts with great differences in the situations, but all leading to better understanding of who we are. We must be the authors, who reveal who are. We can not allow others that privilege or responsibility.

To our many non-Hispanic readers, I thank you for your support I am grateful for your perspective and inclusion into my life, increasing my historical understanding.
God bless America, Mimi

FamilySearch.org - Shuffling archives???

Hola primos,

Have any of you noticed they've changed the URLs on many of the documents at FamilySearch.org? Few of the links I had to source documents now work, meaning having to go back and locate the documents.

I've been working on a list to share with the group, of links to documents relative to Diego Alonso del Pedroso y Hermosillo and his descendants from the branch from which I descend. Now it appears few of them function.

Hours of work, lost… Please tell me this is temporary.

Porras family

Hi primos!

I have a ton of information on my dad's side of the family not so much on my mom's side. I know this site doesn't focus on Michoacán and Guanajuato, but I've found a Porras family member in the census at Degollado, Jalisco.

My mom is from La Piedad de Cabadas, Michoacán, 5 minutes from Guanajuato and 25 minutes to Degollado, Jal.

Are there any Porras family members here that may have a connection to Michoacán, Guanajuato or Degollado, Jalisco?

Gracias,

Erika
