Newspapers or archives in the State of Jalisco, Archivos o periodicos del estado de Jalisco.

Does anyone know if there is a repository for old newspapers in Mexico. I know here in the US you can go to your local libraries to find microfilmed copies of old newspaper articles. Is there anything similar in Mexico, specifically in the state of Jalisco. Maybe the university or an archive?

Hello Again!!

Not sure if I'm in the right area, but Hello again, all my old NR friends!
I've been away for too long (and I've seen that the membership has grown!)
I remember when this group was a Yahoo Group/Message Board. Anyway, thought I'd dust off my sign on and say hello. Also, I did the Ancestry.com DNA test and am so lost as to what to do with it.

Anyway, Hopefully you'll be seeing more of me,

Angelina, Mr. Cuellar,

Thank you for the information regarding my relatives. I was not aware of familysearch.org but now I doubt anyone will ever be able to get me off of it. I didn't think I'd ever be able to locate my relatives from Sonora ever and I've now gone back three generations. Next I'm going to trace my Pedroza line.

Welcome to the group Paige.  I recognized the name Zenon Villalobos because I came across it once
before when I was looking for my Villalobos ancestors, so, I did a quick search
and although I don’t descend from him, I do directly descend from his grandparents
which are my sixth great grandparents -Don José Ygnacio de Villalobos and Doña
María Antonia Josefa Ponce. It also seems like you might not be using Family
Search. You’ll be able to get much farther in your genealogical search using https://familysearch.org/
Pablo Villalobos like you said was born 22 Mar, 1891 in
Rancho del Refugio de Parga, Aguascalientes. He is the son of Jose Onofre Villalobos
and Juana Torres. Pablo Villalobos paternal grandparents are listed as Zenon
Villalobos and Librada Medina. His maternal Grandparents are listed as Narciso
Torres and Filomena Hernandez. Here is the link to his baptism: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12115-88550-28?cc=1502404&…
Jose Onofre Villalobos, was born 12 Jun 1861 in Rancho de
los Alonzos, Aguascalientes. Jose Onofre Villalobos is the son of Zenon

Villalobos and Ysabel Fonseca. His maternal grandparents are Nabor Medina and
Merced Pedroza. Here is the link to his baptism: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11811-103720-45?cc=1502404…

I’m not sure who the parents of Don Juan Antonio Ponce y Doña
María Gertrudis de Torres are. I can’t find a marriage with those names. There
is a marriage in the same time frame for a Juan Antonio de Dios Rodríguez Ponce

find the parents of Don Jose Martinez de Sotomayor or Doña Graviela Romo. I
think her name is probably Gabriela Romo, but I still can’t find the parents
for her or Don Jose Martinez de Sotomayor. Maybe someone else in the forum

Alvarez Family/ Zacatecas and Jalisco

I am researching the Alvarez family from the Zacatecas and Jalisco areas. I have been able to trace my lineage of this family back to an Jose Ma. Alvarez who married an Ana Francisca Campos in Zacatecas in 1836. My research has ended there as I have been unable to find the parents of eith of these two people. I am very much interested in finding them. Does anyone have these people in their family geneology? Thank you. Carol (Campos) Lester

New Member Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Sylvia Castaneda & I've been doing my family's geneology research for about 20 years on and off. I've made the most progress in the last 6 years with my father's paternal line. He is a descendent of Antonio de Castaneda from Tlaltenango, Zacatecas. Specifically from Rancho el Durazno, which currently is located in the municipality of Atolinga, Zacatecas. He's also connected with Covarrubias, Lopez, de Avila, & Salinas from local ranchos currently located in the aforementioned municipality & Mendoza from Bolanos, Jalisco & Robles from Tlalcozahua, Huejucar, Jalisco. Also researching my father's maternal Gonzalez & Torres line which is concentrated in Tepechitlan & El Teul de Gonzales Ortega, Zacatecas. Although, I've been researching my maternal line as well, is not as developed. Llamas & Marquez are the surnames of her paternal line concentrated in Tlaltenango & Momax, Zacatecas. Her father was Benigno Llamas, municipal president of Tlaltenango during 2 separate terms. In addition, her maternal line includes Canes of Sonora & Solis of Jalisco, which I've had very little luck finding.

I'm looking forward to this new journey with you all. And...I'm super excited to see that Arturo Ramos is a member of this group. I purchased his book last year & I must say it's a godsend.

I've included a link to my folder which includes The Descendants of Antonio de Castaneda. (It is in Spanish because when I think of my ancestors I think in Spanish.) Again, mil gracias for this opportunity.

Attent: Steven Hernandez-Escoto y Tovar

Hola Primo ,how are you ? Well I hope. I wanted to know which Escoto y Tovar Line do you descend from. I descend from Ygnacio Escoto y Tovar( and Beatriz Morales). Ygnacio Escoto is the son of Antonio Escoto y Tovar and Inez Ortiz de Rodas. Ygnacios son Juan Escoto (and Maria Ramirez(Arias de Valdez)are my connection. MY question is Ygnacios Escoto y Tovar's wife Beatriz Morales related to Ygnacios Escotos y Tovar sister in law Maria Morales (wife of Juan Escoto y Tovar Ygnacios brother) ?

Thank you for your time

Tu Primo mil veces

Requesting assistance: Romo de Vivar & Villalobos

Recently I asked if anyone had any info on the following line, but there were no takers...I am resending my earlier post, in the hopes that some someone could shed me some light on this lineage:
______________________________________________________

Estimados colegas,

1. Diego Ignacio Romo de Vivar Nació hacia 1710 en Teocaltiche?, Jalisco, México
..... +Juana-Lauredia de Alba Nació: 4 Feb 1708 en Tecameca, Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México Se casaron: 15 Jun 1732 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México

2. Beatriz Romo de Vivar Nació: 10 Oct 1712 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco, México
..... +Francisco Xavier Álvarez Reynoso Nació hacia 1713 en San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México Se casaron: 14 Feb 1735 en San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México
Padre: Juan-Manuel Álvarez - & - Madre: María de Reynoso y Rentería
3. [1] Sebastián de Aparicio Romo de Vivar Nació: 3 May 1717 en San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México Fue bautizado: 3 May 1717 en San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México
. *1ª esposa de [1] Sebastián de Aparicio Romo de Vivar:
..... +Marcela de Velasco Nació hacia 1720 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México Se casaron hacia 1739 en San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México

Padre: Lázaro Muñoz de la Barba - & - Madre: Tomasa de Jesús Sánchez de Hermosillo
. *3ª esposa de [1] Sebastián de Aparicio Romo de Vivar:
..... +Petronila de Islas Nació hacia 1735 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México Se casaron: 2 Ene 1760 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México
4. Polonia Estefanía Romo de Vivar Nació hacia 1720 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México
5. María-Margarita Romo de Vivar Nació hacia 1723 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México
6. Anna Juliana Romo de Vivar Nació: 3 Oct 1726 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México
..... +Juan-Joseph de Aceves Nació hacia 1724 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México Se casaron: 3 Feb 1745 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, México
Padre: Joseph de Aceves - & - Madre: María-Teresa Gutiérrez

Thanks to my cousin Katy Brecht's research; she found this dispensation.  It was an important link because Maria Florentina Pinedo (my 4th GGM),  widow of my 4th GGF Jose Juan Fernandez, and her second husband Gervacio Rodarte.  It included a Family Trunk and named 3/4 generations pedigree.  Most importantly it identified Celedonio Fernandez my 5th GGF.  That connection enabled me to connect Erlinda Castanon-Long as my cousin.  And Erlinda's research was a fountain of connections to other cousins!  In the past two weeks I've increased my cousin count by hundreds! Some I've traced to present day.  I still have hundreds more to add.

This is the website Katy Brecht found:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18409-25043-16?cc=1874591&wc….

BTW, the only 2 browsers that work are either Google Chrome or FireFox Mozilla.

Thanks to my cousin Katy Brecht and to Erlinda Castanon-Long!
