Hello all --
In case there's anyone with Pineda/Pinedo roots in the Zacatecas area, my father recently received his yDNA results. They're posted on the Mexico DNA site. According to Gary Felix, our line is Q-M242. However, he seems to think that it's not Native American, but rather from Central Asia/Middle East. I'm wandering if we need to do the 25 or 37 marker test -- does anyone have a view about any of this.
Here's the entry for our results -- it's the information I've learned to date, along with the close matches that Gary Felix found:
Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas > Mesquital del Oro, Zacatecas > Tlaltenango, Zacatecas > Laredo, Texas. Haplogroup Q. Found in the Middle East and Central Asia. See these 10 YDNA matches to DYS19=15 DYS389I=12 (1 step off from 13) DYS389II=27 (1 step off from 28) DYS390=24 DYS391=10 DYS392=14 DYS393=13 DYS385=14-16 and DYS439=11 to 2 of 236 Mendoza, Argentina [European], 2 of 357 Mexico City, Mexico [Mestizo], 2 of 70 Assiut, Egypt [Egyptian], 1 of 122 Noord-Brabant, Netherlands [Dutch], 1 of 163 Israel & Palestinian Authority Area [Arab], 1 of 106 Saudi Arabia [Saudi] and 1 of 533 Central Portugal, Portugal [Portuguese] in this - YHRD database search. Oldest Ydna ancestor - Gregorio Pinedo, son of Bartolo Pinedo and Maria Gonzalez, married in 1834 in Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas>Pedro Pinedo b. circa 1851>Nicanor Pinedo b. circa 1882>Jesus Maria Pineda b. 1930.
If anyone else knows of any Pinedas or Pinedos who've done the test, or who otherwise also has a similar Q-M242 line, please let me know. Thanks!
Chris Pineda
Just got this today, can't wait to read it! I'm so excited.

Thank you Armando for your reply.
I have several Santiago De Pedroza in my family tree. the one I'm having dificulty finding is the parents for Santiago De Pedroza born in 1595 (place unknown) married to Juana Bautista De Alba Y Retamosa born in 1599 or 1600 (place unknown). I'm thinking that they came from Spain
I'm having a minor difficulty in this website I can not find the Informacion Matrimonial for the year 1760 in Nochistlan Zacatecas.
Thanks to the members of Nuestros Ranchos on the great information that you have personally provided me with regard to Y-DNA, genealogy, etc. (especially Armando A).
I just found out about a free online course on Genome Science being offered by Penn (Un. of Pennsylvania). The University course description is as follows:
>
Experimental Genome Science
John Hogenesch, John Isaac Murray (These are the two instructors)
"Each of our cells contains nearly identical copies of our genome, which provides instructions that allow us to develop and function. This course serves as an introduction to the main laboratory and theoretical aspects of genomics and is divided into themes: genomes, genetics, functional genomics, systems biology, single cell approaches, proteomics, and applications."
It sounds far too scientific for my liberal arts background but there may be some of you that will want to consider it. It begins October 15th and is 12 weeks long. It states that you will need to devote 6/8 hours of study per week. For those of you that sign up and complete the course they will provide you with a certificate upon completion. The web site is at: https://www.coursera.org/#course/genomescience

Hello Group,
Help reading this defuncion from 1668 would be appreciated. It's the second half I don't understand: en la parroquia...two names are mentioned, but I don't understand the context. Again, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Alice

I'm a lil' confused:
Does primo-hermano mean that both sets of parents are siblins to each other or can just ONE parent from one cousin be a sibling of ONE parent of the other cousin?
My own two oldest brothers married two oldest sisters of another same family. Obviously their children have identical mutual DNA, and thus, they are akin to being all almost siblings. But what if it was ONLY one parent and his sibling parent? Are their children still called primo-hermanos??

I just came across a more "liberal arts friendly" online course on genetics. Also free.
Introduction to Genetics and Evolution (Duke Un)
Mohamed Noor
A whirlwind introduction to evolution and genetics, from basic principles to current applications, including how disease genes are mapped and how we leverage evolutionary concepts to aid humanity. It startss October 10th, 10 weeks long, provides a certificate upon completion.

Hola a todos,
Me gustaria saber si alguien tiene fechas o datos
sobre sus primeros dos matrimonios. Solamente he
encontrado su tercer matrimonio con Michaela

Jalisco. Menciona que era originario de los reinos
de Castilla. Tambien he encontrado mucha informacion
sobre sus hijos que tuvo con Lorensa Madera pero no
se si seria su primera o segunda esposa. Cualquier
ayuda se agradece.

Hello Again,
Does anyone have Santiago De Pedroza married to Maria De La Cruz in their family tree?
their son was Francisco De Pedroza married to Juana Lopez De La Serda.
Juanita,
I hope the following is helpful to you.

Hello
I found an unusual name in the marriage records for Aguascalientes - Dona Maria Josefa Brickdale, padrina for Don Jose Luis Ruiz de Esparza(from Valladolid) and Dona Anna Maria Peredo (from Leon). The padrino is Don Pedro de Herrera Leyva. Not someone I am looking for, but since there can't be many Brickdales in Mexico in the late 1700's (1792), thought I would pass it along. The man who wrote the entry was very careful to write the name with "ck" and all the letters in the name are easy to make out.
here is the link
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11759-70592-55?cc=1410092&…
I checked familysearch and found this woman, together with a Simon Herrera Leyba, as parents of a girl: Maria Dolores Loreto Herrera Brickdale:
https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenna…
The christening was 16 dec 1791 in Aguascalientes (Sagrario)
But the marriage record for Maria Josefa was not indexed.
No Brickdale showed up on a search within NR, but maybe someone out there can use this anyway - someday!
Regards
Denise
Maria.....thank you so much for checking......those Liendos of mine are VERY elusive and enjoy hiding from me. I am determined to find them.....someday! :-) Josie

Attn: List members,
I was viewing the FamilyTreeDNA website, and was surprised to see that the autosomal test was on sales for the next 72 hours...
Originally priced at $289.00 it is now $199.00
Many of the other tests are also at a reduced price...

I've been reading with interest, but with little comprehension, the posts re DNA tests.
What is this "autosomal" thing? Does it cost extra? How is it listed in FTDNA?
I sent in kits for my husband, Antonio Garcia, and myself. My husband's was the YDNA12 and mine was mtDNA, the most basic tests that were on sale for half price at the time due to our fixed income.
My haplogroup was determined to be C, Native American, Pre-Columbian. My mother was a Piro/Tewa from New Mexico.
My husband's haplogroup is T1, Mesopotamian. His people from Jalisco claimed never to have "mixed with Indians" but he was hoping to prove them wrong. His hero is Benito Juarez who was a Zapotec Indian, and he was hoping that somewhere in his lines there was Indian blood, but alas, no. He was crestfallen. I told him that he shares the same haplogroup as a Roman emporer and czars and several crowned heads of Europe, but he was not impressed. He admires the indigenous people of Mexico more.
I find the FTDNA site hard to navigate and hard to find explanations of their various "products" offered. I did find a match for my husband by signing up for their YSearch.org site, someone in Texas by the surname Camacho whose ancestor was a Silva. I have e-mailed this person via the FTDNA system to see if there is a common ancestor. There are no Camacho or Silva in my husband's lines.
My husband's tree is here at NR in the gedcom files. Does anyone with ancestors from Jalisco (Encarnacion de Diaz, Lagos de Moreno, etc) also have haplogroup T1?

Absolutely, I have time to check. Unfortunately, there are no LIENDO or
LIENDRO surnames in the book. It goes from LEQUERICA to LIZAOLA Y CUETO.
Keep looking...something will turn up when you least expect it.

I need a little reading a baptismal record that I found. 'm looking for information on my great grandfather (Pilar Valdez) and my great grandmother (Romana Tovar) who moved from Mexico to Texas in 1912 with their two daughters (Elisa and Herlinda. Any ways I found the following record and I'm having a little trouble reading the names. I would appreciate any help confirming what I believe is my great grandfather's baptismal record.
I think the name of the child is Pilar Baldes (I'm making the assumption that the name is mispelled or at least I'm hoping. My great great grandparents were Pedro Valdez and Matina Sandate. Would someone be kind enough to help me translate the record. Thank you.
