Hello,
I saw that there was a discussion about Francisco Xavier Godoy back in 2007, and I wanted to provide additional information about one of his sons, Jose Maria Godoy. From the 2007 discussion, FXG married Maria Anttonia De Casas in 18 Sep 1741 in Tlaltenango. But one child I haven't seen reference to is Jose Maria Godoy.

I came across Jose Maria Godoy's information in Tabasco's church records. I confirmed that Jose Maria's parents are Francisco Godoy and Maria Antonia Casas from the baptism in Tabasco of Jose Maria's son Macedonio in 9/14/1817. This Jose Maria's second marriage in June 5, 1802 to Juana Ledesma. According to record of Jose Maria Godoy's second marriage, his first wife Josefa died in about 2/1801. I got his town of origin (Tlaltenango) from his first marriage in Tabasco in 1800 to Maria Josefa Zantan:

Mi familia estuvo viviendo en un rancho llamado La Tetilla actualmente en el municipio de Garcia de la Cadena, Zacatecas de la feligresia del Teul hablando religiosamente.

El primer registro de una persona con apellidop Sanchez fuen en 1801 y fue Atanasio Sanchez Larios hijo de Ramon Sanchez Ulloa y de Dominga Larios Gutierrez, los abuelos paternos dice el acta Manuel Sanchez y Guadalupe Ulloa, los abuelos maternos Candido Miguel Larios (Fletes) de Cocula y Ana Maxima Gutierrez (Herrera)nacida en el rancho la Tetilla. Por parte del lado materno hay suficientes registros tanto en el Teul como en Tlatenago, pero de parte de los Sanchez no encuentro ni ha Manuel Sanchez ni ha Guadalupe Ulloa.

Me puse ha buscar a todos los Sanchez que empezaron a llegar al Teul desde principios de 1700 a 1800 y pongo sus nombres de ellos como de esposas o padrinos y tambien en un 90% parece que no hubiera registros.

Alguien sabe en su experiencia personal que tan confiable serian los registros del Family search? que tanto faltaria por capturar? Que me recomiendan ya que en 6 meses de busqueda se me han terminado las lineas de busqueda? Creen que debo esperar a que se publiquen mas registros?

This question is for those of you (probably all of you) who are using genealogy software to keep track of your information. Specifically Family Tree Maker, since this is what I'm using.

As you probably know... in Mexican(Latin) culture. Most people have 2 surnames starting with their own paternal then maternal name. I started my records listing only the paternal surnames in my list, with the exception of one name where I listed both surnames. When I went to go look for that person on my master list to the left of the program, I noticed that it was alphabetized by the maternal surname as opposed to the paternal. So in essence it threw it out of place.

I was wondering how most of you are listing your names? And what benefits do you see in doing it one way as opposed to the other.

Sometimes I think its more beneficial listing both names. Here's my reasoning... If you come across an ancestor with both surnames but don't know the parents. The surname can give you a clue as to the surname of the father as well as the mother. But the draw back, in my point of view, is that your index listing will be out of whack making it just a bit harder to find alphabetically.

I have been researching some early 1800's with Jauregui, Pinon, and Contreras in Mexticacan and find some confusing entries with De Jauregui, De Xaurigue, Pinona, Contreras De Arse, Garcia and Gomes Jauregui; as they relate to Delgadillo Prieto. Any leads and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Holá, mis amigos.

My name is John Karr Wolfe, usually called Karr, and I am an American-born
son of a Mexican immigrant mother, a Romo from Guadalajara/Tepatitlán. My
father is from the American Midwest. In order to try to link my family back
to the origins of the Romo de Vivar clan, I joined Nuestros Ranchos a month
ago, but then got called out of retirement to do some consulting. I’m back
home now and eager to learn more about my family history.

I am relatively new to genealogic research and have used family
documents/photos, ancestry.com, and various internet sources to get started
on tracing my roots on the Romo side. I have come to an impasse with my GGG
grandfather José de los Santos Romo de Vivar, born in Villa de Encarnación,
Jalisco (later known as Encarnación de los Díaz). The town was also known
as La Villa de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación de Macías until 1824, and
even earlier, as el puesto del Sauz de los Macías, a wayside stop at what
was most likely a cattle-ranch, “Rancho Viejo” on the Camino Real between
Mexico and Santa Fé, .

According to his granddaughter, Don José de los Santos Romo de Vivar was
born on 2 Nov 1837 to Pablo Romo Villalobos and Ascepción [sic] Cornejo
Díaz. He married María Guadalupe Pedroza (most likely in Encarnación) on 29
May 1861 and eventually moved to Tepatitlán de los Morelos, Jalisco, where
he established the town’s only botica (apothecary shop). He is said to
have been instrumental in starting construction on the Santuario de
Guadalupe and in the development of sewage and drainage systems for the city
of Tepatitlán. Upon the death of Santos (year unknown, but after 1877), his
wife, M. Guadalupe Pedroza, took over the apothecary shop and ran it until
she died, leaving it to her daughter, Guadalupe “Lupe” Dávila (born to M.
Guadalupe’s second husband, Alberto Dávila, whom she married on 29 Sep
1884).

There is a street in Tepatitlán called Santos Romo, which family tradition
claims is named after my GGG grandfather. Although several relatives have
testified to this, and I have a photo of a street sign, no-one has actually
confirmed the authenticity of the claim by examining records in “Tepa.”

I have a copy of a letter written by his wife, listing their 8 children,
born between 1863 and 1877. My great grandfather, José de Jesús Romo, was
the third son and fifth child. He was born in Encarnación on 14 Oct 1871
and was a rancher. Although he is said to have continued to own the land
near Tepatitlán and run the family business, at some point he moved his wife
and children to Guadalajara, Jalisco. In 1917, the family emigrated to
Fresno, California, apparently leaving most of the ranch in the hands of the
eldest son, my grandfather Moisés J Romo, who eventually sold the family
business and followed his father and siblings to Fresno. Unfortunately,
there is no record of the name of the rancho.

Curiously, the name Romo de Vivar pops up irregularly in the family,
presumably because some family members were more interested in tracing their
lineage to Spanish nobility than others. My branch of the family has been
called simply Romo for at least 3 generations.

I would appreciate any information anyone has uncovered about this family,
including the names Romo, Romo de Vivar, Villalobos, Cornejo and Díaz, all
apparently residents of Encarnación, Jalisco during the first half of the
19th century. And I will pass along any more information that I uncover, as
well. I am building a public tree on ancestry.com, which will show you
everything I have learned so far about these families. It is the
“Romo/Vázquez Family Tree.”

I am trying to figure out the name of one person on this record. I will not say what I think it reads, as I do not want to prejudice everyone's opinion. No hay que confundir. Los Gómez de Cervantes emparentan con la familia del
Comendador Leonel de Cervantes. Las hijas de este último, casaron con el
conquistador Juan Villaseñor y Orozco y la otra con un vástago de los
Cervantes y Avellaneda, descendientes de Nuño Alfonso, de donde surge la
familia Cervantes en México; de la cual, más adelante, en el siglo XVII un
miembro de esta familia, enlazará con los Altamirano Velasco y Castilla,
Condes de Santiago de Calimaya, que es otra familia muy distinta. Existe
mucha bibliografía al respecto y el tema se halla abundantemente estudiado.

I am hoping someone can enlighten me about the location of "Villa de Leon,
Obispado de Michoacan". It is the place of origen of Madgalena Ortiz, "hija
legitimas de Philipe Ortiz, ya difunto, y de Juana Barrera.", noted in the
22 June 1722 dispensation (Cuquio, Jal). on page 27 of *Sagrada Mitra de
Guadalajara...* by Maria de la Luz Monejano Hilton. Philipe Ortiz and Juana
Barrera are my 8ggpts. I get the impression that the Obispado de Michoacan
in that period covered a huge area, larger than the present state of
Michoacan. Could it be referring to Leon, Gto? Thank you for your
assistance.

Saludos a todos que me ayudaron con sus ideas de que es la abreviatura
"Yn Not". . .en las paginas aqui de otro Castaneda que no es de mi
familia vemos esa abreviatura otra vez. En la primera dece que Matias
Castaneda fue hijo natural de Maria Magalena y de padre no conocido. en
la segunda pagina dece que el es hijo de Maria Magdalena y de Padre Yn not.

Si tienen otras ideas por favor de mandarlos a mi porque todavia no
entiendo. La idea que es Yndio Natural puede ser pero porque en la
primera pagina dece que este personas es hijo natural entonces en la
segunda que es hijo de Maria Magdalena y Padre Yn Not (???Padre Yndio
Natural???).

Las fechas extremas de los documentos disponibles son 1563-1940
Entre otros tipos documentales se pueden consultar:
Bautismos, confirmaciones, matrimonios, defunciones,informaciones matrimoniales, dispensas y licencias matrimoniales juicios eclesiásticos, testamentos, padrones de feligreses, visitas obispales, Cofradías y hermandades, capellanías y obras piadosas, contabilidad parroquial, diezmos y limosnas, fabrica de templos, y otros mas.

Atienden de Lunes a viernes de 9:00 a 15:00 hrs.

Condiciones de acceso y reprografía:
-Portar guantes de látex y cubre-boca.
-Se permite tomar fotografías digitales sin flash de los documentos, según estado de conservación.
-Ingresar al área de consulta solo con lápiz, hojas o libreta de apuntes o computadora portátil.

Thanks to the efforts of Archivist Mr. Mario Gomez Mata and his team are now organized and available for consultation by any interested person over one million documents that are kept inside the file, it is recorded in the General Archive of the Nation with the code: MX14053AHPA

The extreme dates available are 1563-1940 documents

Among the document types are available:
Baptisms, confirmations, marriages, deaths, marriage information, waivers and ecclesiastical trials marriage licenses, wills, registers of parishioners, visiting Episcopal, confraternities and guilds, chapels and devotional works, accounting parish tithes and alms, manufactures of temples, and some more .
