New DNA results for Gutierrez

That's very interesting. Thanks for letting us know.

My nephew was born with the Mongolian blue spot. The only person in our family we believe was ever born that way. Like your haplogroups, his purplish spot at the base of his spine is like a signpost pointing across the Pacific.

Everybody had to see his butt!

Mexico has a long connection with the east. as Arturo indicated. The Filipinos cheered "Viva Mexico, Mabuhay!" when they heard Mexico had broken away from Spain. They expected it was their turn next. And indeed, a Mexican soldier serving in Manila declared the Independence of the Phillippines.

But the Spaniards swiftly caught him, and hung him from the highest tree.

The last flotilla left Las Filipinas loaded with silks and porcelains from China for Acapulco. and beyond.

But the Mexican govenrment confiscated the goods and refused to compensate the Filipino merchants, bankrupting many, and bringing an end to the Spanish Galleon trans-Pacific trade.

general será invitado a asisitir.

Cualquier pregunta, por favor háganmela saber.

Gracias,

Ricardo Rodriguez

Anything can happen

Hello there,
I personally have not yet connected anyone from the many last names on my tree to Coahuila or Nuevo Leon.  About 90% of my family stayed in the 3 states, the other 10% went on to California and Chihuahua.
When you least expect it, you will find the link... don't give up :-)
For me, it usually happens in the middle of the night when I can't sleep and decide to try one more time.

Help with Tia's Genealogy

I've done no research in this area and was wondering if possibly someone
in the group might recognize some of these names:

Descendants of Estanislado Marquez

Generation No. 1

1. ESTANISLADO1 MARQUEZ died Bet. 1960 - 1964 in Santa Paula, CA. He
married TEODORA JIMENEZ, daughter of SRA. MARQUEZ. She was born in
maybe El Valle de Guadalupe, Jalisco, Mexico, and died January 1945 in
Santa Paula, CA.

Child of ESTANISLADO MARQUEZ and TEODORA JIMENEZ is:
i. MATEO2 MARQUEZ, b. 21 September 1898, Ajiji, Jalisco, Mexico;
d. 15 November 1966, Santa Paula, CA; m. JUANA GARCIA; b. 22 October
1905, Jaen, Jaen, Spain; d. 27 December 1997, Santa Paula, CA.

thanks for any ideas about this genealogy,

joseph

DNA Results

On Friday, I received the DNA results submitted by my brother to National Geographic. I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed.

I have been following the extraordinary PBS/National Geographic documentary on the DNA research of Spencer Wells, his theory is the world has evolved out of Africa.

As per my report:
The results were Haplogroup R1b1c
The genetic markers that define your ancestral history reach back about 60,00 years of non-African men.

Then the trail ends in Western Europe. I suppose I was hoping the end of the trail would be more specific as Western Europe is such a large area. The report also states "Today, roughly 70 percent of the men in southern England belong to haplogroup R1b. In parts of Spain and Ireland, that number exceeds 90 percent.

I was planning on having my own DNA tested by National Geographic, but now I'm not so sure, if the results are going to be the same, out of Africa, then to Western Europe.

Yesterday, on the Semos Primos site, I read a fantastic story written by Larry Garza. I was intrigued by his findings and sent him an e-mail. Below is the response from Mr. Garza. I have checked out the site he used, and it appears to me more of what I'm looking to achieve.

Dear Helyn,
Thank you for your comments. We had comprehensive DNA testing done through DNA Consultants, Dr. Donald Yates. I chose them because they give a comprehensive analysis with wonderful historical explanation, from my research the best available. You can contact Dr. Donald Yates at www.dnaconsultants.com and look at the various testings they do. Tell him I sent you.
Larry Garza

Well, at least now I have another option.

New researcher in Mexico

Hi

I am new to the group although I have been doing research for many years. I have been successful with my mothers European ancestry search, but I had no idea how to begin research for my family in Mexico. ( I do not speak Spanish as my father believed we should only speak English)

My grandfather was Salvador Bernal born in Zaceteca Mexico in 1905. His mother (Antonia Cano b1881 in Mexico) brought him and his brother and sister to California, shortly after his birth. His father was Cresencio Bernal and there are many stories about him being a train robber. Antonia Cano's parents were Felipe Cano and Tirburcia Martinez. There is also references to the family having some French heritage through this line.
I do not have any other information on the family. I would appreciate any help as I have no idea where to start looking.

Chris

geneology and the bible

...and I contend that their is no discord between science or the
bible...simply gaps we don't understand....as in genealogy...only educated guesses when
one comes to a dead end of recorded history (and I do underscore HIStory).
