Cristobal Magallanes Jara

Does anybody in the group have a copy of Esteban Valdes Salazar's pamphlet on Saint Cristobal Magallanes Jara's genealogy? I know that somebody in the group shared a scan of the cover with me early on... but I was wondering if someone had the content as well... particularly the Magallanes side. I have the Jara side from Esteban Valdes' Jaras de Totatiche book going pretty far back... That is available in my online database if anyone is interested:

Question About For Greater Glory Movie

I know a lot of people in this group have lived or traveled in Jalisco and the Los Altos region.  Sadly, I am not one of them.  I am curious if anybody recognized any of the locations that appeared in the film "For Greater Glory"?  I tried searching on the Internet for specific information regarding filming locations but nothing turned up.  I read some of the battles were filmed at actual locations.  Also, what happened to the expert on the Cristero Rebellion, Steven Hernandez?  He did a Masters thesis on it.  I would love to hear his opinion about the film.  I remember a long time ago he would leave posts on Nuestros Ranchos that were really interesting.

FamSearch Seminar on New Features/Updates tomorrow

I contacted Family Search about a batch of Defunciones that they didn't upload. They said they would talk to their people about it.

They also told me:

"Would you like to learn about new features and updates to FamilySearch? A series of seminars detailing changes to FamilySearch and how to use the new features will be presented for our patrons. Here is the link to a seminar to be held Tuesday, June 19. This link gives the particulars: Presented by Robert Kehrer; https://familysearch.org/blog/robert-kehrer-presents-familysearch-webin…

Delgadillo

I hope this is the correct place to post a subject for assistance/discussion.
There is an entry for my maternal GGGG grandfather Ignacio Delgadillo in the following location:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18410-4495-8?cc=1874591&wc=1…
which begins on image 164 with a couple torn/pasted pages and continues to image 174 on the left page. I understand there was an issue with infidelity and separation of several years but cannot read enough to understand what other details are in the doument or final disposition. Also, cannot find names of other persons in the document that would give any information or clues to other famdily members. I saw the term 'desavenencia' toward the end but not sure if the marriage was dissolved. If anyone has the time to look at this, any light on the issue is greatly appreciated.

The Cristero period and "For Greater Glory"

The movie brought back some memories of my Garcia-Vallejo families stories of that era and how it affected them. Most of both familes left their towns during this horrific period. My parents were teenagers and left only 5 months before this war ended. I knew that they had been married a few days before they left for California to join their people here. My mother, when we ask, stated that they were married very quietly and secretively by a priest away from their home in Teocaltiche. She explained that it was a time when the churches were closed. Before the movie I took an interest and began Google searches to learn more. I saw pictures that moved me to tears and I began to realize what my family had survived. My mother's father Andres a few year later left to return to Mexico to seek his land that he had left who knows who in charge of things. Sadly the outcome was something he had feared; they had lost their land. He must have been heartbroken because he died there
shortly never to return to his family in Calif. I was not born yet. I feel such saddness realizing how they continued their life here, starting over. But I also better understood what made them so strong in their beliefs, in the future and of course their faith. I admire my ancestors so very much and try to live with the strength that I inherited.
As for the movie, I was glad I got to see it. It was so real, so passionate and an example of good and evil. Nothing justifies what Callas mandated, nothing.

New Member / Munoz

My name is Raul Bracamonte Munoz and I'm thrilled to be a new member of the Nuestros Ranchos familia.

While my research takes me to many places within northern Mexico, a key focus area for me is Villa de Cos and the surrounding haciendas. I also have an interest in Sierra Hermosa, Jerez, Fresnillo, and the city of Zacatecas.

Within these areas of Zacatecas, the primary family names I am researching are: Munoz, Vasquez del Mercado, Rodriguez and Sanchez.

Before 1850, I also have an interest in Rodarte, Gonzalez de Solis, Martinez de Orosco, Ruiz de Chavez, Caldera, Romo de Vivar, Carrion, Delgadillo, Castrejon, Campa y Cos, de Avila, and Marin.

Please feel free to review my folder with descendant charts that include many of these names.

When researching film, I typically concentrate on older files that have not been indexed. So if you would like me to keep an eye open for family members you may be researching, please feel free to let me know.

I'd also like to note that I make every effort to only place individuals in my family tree if I have direct and conclusive evidence that supports the relationship. Happy to show my work if there are any questions regarding individuals found in my files. There are a few exceptions within the Rodarte family.

Other than familysearch.org and ancestry.com, if anyone can recommend any other sites that provide records for my focus area, please let me know.

Thank you.

Gracias.

Need help from the experts on how to read the surnames on this marriage information

The following is what I received from one of the California Missions of my ancestors on their marriage:

On May25th, 1859 Francisco Carrizosa 34, native of Tujuta Son. residing in el Rancho of San Jose, widower of Jesus Celaya of Jose & Pabla (Paula) Gastelo with Micaela Manzanero, 36 widow of Franco. Bustamante also of sonora of Pedro & Concepcion Ortiz, living in S. Jose, Ramon Andrade & Maria del Carmen Guillen witness.

I am not sure who Jose & Paula Gastelo are related to. Are they the parents to Francisco Carrisosa or to Jesus Celaya? The other question is, is the surname Gastelo the maiden name to Paula and assuming Jose's surname is Carrisosa or Celaya? I have the same questions for Pedro & Concepcion Ortiz.

Raphael Romo de Bibar, Pedro Romo, Miguel Romo de Bibar, Luisa Romo de Bibar

Hi

I have been searching for some time for any reference to Don Raphael Romo. Now I have totally by chance found a person with that name (including the title). For anyone else with this name in their records (or any of the others in the subject line), here are the details (question marks indicate an abreviation I am unsure of, but think it means village or something along those lines):

Mexico Catholic Church Records, AGS Calvillo, Senor San Jose, Matrimonios, 1772 - 99, image 15
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11613-124739-6?cc=1410092&…

and

Antonio Romo, Ma. Jacinta Lopes de Naba, Jose Ma. Ygnacio, Francisco Guerrero, Ma. Diaz

Hi

I have ealier seen an interest in the name Antonio Romo, so here is a reference to him (or, one of the Antonio Romos of the area!)I recently found:

Mexico Church Records, AGS, AGS, Sagrario, baptisms 1781 - 86, image 103

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11810-117282-3?cc=1410092&…

Baptism on 22 Jan 1784 of:

JOSE MARIA YGNACIO, espanol, born in this villa, the 11th of the current month, legitimate son of:

FRANCISCO GUERRERO and
MARIA DIAZ

Padrinos:
ANTONIO ROMO and
MARIA JACINTA LOPES DE NABA

Incidentally, I put the name Maria Jacinta Lopes de Naba into family search, and her marriage with Antonio (Manuel Antonio) Romo showed up:

"Mexico, Marriages, 1570-1950," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JZKC-4LB : accessed 13 June 2012), Maria Jasinta Lopez De Naba, 1772.

So then I looked up this record just on a WHIM (Its nice to be able to FIND something your looking for...even when its not something you are actually looking for!) and on the page opposite I found a reference to a Don RAPHAEL ROMO (is my long quest almost over?), Don PEDRO ROMO and Dona LUISA ROMO. That info will be in a separate post...

Denise

Valdivia Family

I am trying to find information on my husband's maternal grandfather, Emilio Valdivia. His father was Tomas Valdivia, and his mother was Secundina Ramos. Does anyone have these names in their family tree?

Emilio Valdivia was in the seminary in Totatiche at the time of the Cristero War, and had to leave to avoid being killed. He immigrated to Southern California.

We cannot locate any information regarding Emilio's family. I don't know if he was from the area around Totatiche or somewhere else. We have heard that he might have been from an area in Zacatecas that wasn't too far from Totatiche. Knowing nothing of the area, I have no idea where that might be.

Does anyone know anything about any Valdivia families around Totatiche, or are there any Valdivia's in Southern Zacatecas? Can anyone give me any ideas of how to research the family of Emilio Valdivia?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Maria Guadalupe Martinez, Pablo Martinez, Gertrudis Romo, Ynojos

Hi

Here is the baptismal record of Maria Guadalupe Romo. I am in serious doubt about the name of the place, as a google search does not turn it up. If anyone has the time to check out the link to the image and correct what might be a mistake, I would much appreciate it.

Denise
