PBS Documentary and Mexican Revolution

Thank you to those who alerted us all on this epic accomplishment. I recorded it last night because 2 hours beginning at 10:00 pm!  I was getting a new cable provider and had to watch it early or lose the recording.

I was especially impressed with the coverage of oral testament on revolution by two men who had served.

Equally impressive, the contributions of Campobello and the coverage of the 1968 student uprising. How can 300 students be gunned down by their own government? Please explain.

Cardenas nationalization of the oil companies was a brave move.  His attempts to enact land reform and other social programs was very notable.  It was touching to see Mr. Katz tearfully express his gratitude to the Mexican government for extending refuge to his family and 30,000 other refugees no  other country would take in.

Mexico has a grand history. I hope I live to see Mexico reach it's full potential as an nation able to fairly provide for it's people. The plight of the poor and indigenous robbed of their land and assets must be cured.

Mexican Revolucion

PBS is broadcasting tonight The Storm that Swept Mexico a 2 hour documentary on the Mexican revolution. I thought you might be interested in seeing and learning about what our ancestors went through. The documentary took 10 years to make. It includes interviews with 4 people who fought in the revolution and footage of battle areas and haciendas. Perhaps some of our ancestors will be mentioned

My full name is: Anna Maria Vasquez - I am the daughter of Carola Lopez Vasquez. I do not know if I have a user name yet but my e-mail address is: annamvasquez@hotmail.com
I fully intend to do all research myself and am wanting access to the records only to further research I have already done and hopefully fill in the missing pieces with identifial baptism, marriage or death verification.
My maternal great-grandmother Florentina Martinez was from Aguas Calientes, Mexico.
My mothers father Bernardo Lopez; my grandfather was from Tlalcosaua Jalisco, Mexico.

I will attempt the Ahnentafel style; but up-front I have to say that there are a lot of missing pieces so I will insert ? marks.

Finding Gabriel Chavez

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site and wish to introduce myself and my quest for information on my husband's family in Aguascalientes. His Great Grandfather was Gabriel Chavez Martinez, who owned and operated silver mines in the Mesillas area of Tepezala, Aguascalientes. He later moved to Aguascalientes City where he owned and operated the Hotel Paris (now a government building) and the first Ford automobile agency in that city. I have been unable to trace him following his birth record, so any help you might give me would be greatly appreciated. Carol Adams-Ramos

how to find source document on records from, public access to new Family search

I found an entry for my elusive great grandmother on the new Family Search. this record shows two additional parents in addition to the ones I had as her parents.(three sets of parents). I know this is my great grandmother because it shows her husband and two of her children which have been confirmed by source documents. Also shows a variation of her name and a different date of birth. I have checked these new names and have not found anything more. family pedigree with details tab shows person identifier: LHJL-SHJ. What does this mean. Any suggestions as to how to check this out further and find either the submitter of this additional information and/or source documents. Thanks

NGGS Conference in SoCal

Dear NGGS:
Wishing you a wonderful conference. I hope all attendees will enjoy it. Wish I was there.
I look forward to reading reports from the attendees and organizers.

PS - I consider Cucamonga my stomping grounds, as I lived there with an aunt, when I was in H.S. (Chaffey) and Jr. College, in a house my grandfather had purchased in the 1930's. My grandfather and father had at one time worked for the Italian Vineyard Co, in Guasti, CA. The Ontario International Airport now sits on the land that once were grape vineyards.

Jalisco records at Familysearch.org

Good morning all,

Yesterday Familysearch has finally made the Jalisco records available online. Last night I reviewed the Guadalajara Diocese records for marriage dispensations.......... and I hit pay dirt!

It took some going through. I randomly entered image numbers to find the year I was looking for. They are not in good order.....but once I found the couple, it took me back 3 more generations on one family line.

So if you've got marriage dispensations and it's within the Guadalajara Diocese...this is a must read.

WOW!!!!

Jerez, Zacatca 1836 Baptism records

Hello Everyone,
I am researching my family currently from the Jerez Baptism records for 1836. I have noticed a large amount of record with no grandparents listed. Instead, it says "abuelos no dio rason". I've only seen this so far in the Jerez records but don't know what it means since it's on so many records.

Hope someone can tell me what that means??

Thanks,

New batch numbers for Ojuelos, Jalisco parish records

The pages on pages on Nuestrosranchos which have the LDS film numbers and batch numbers make it easy to add and edit information, so I recently added half a dozen new batches and associated films to the page for OJuelos.

Also, for those researching the Ojuelos area, the LDS films (and batch numbers) for on the Nuestrosranchos Ojuelos page contain entries from three different churches:
* Señor San José, in Ojuelos, on films numbered 063xxxx and 0640xxx (with xxx up to 140);
* Inmaculada Concepción, in Ciénega de Mata, on films 0640149 to 0641019; and
* Ledesma, Ojuelos (don't know the name of the church), on films 0641027 to 0641037 and films 0641059 and 0641060.

If you know about any other churches in the Ojuelos area which have had their records filmed by the LDS, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.

The films 0639963, 0640149, 0640150, 0640151, & 0640170 are on permanent loan at the local Family History center and I will gladly do lookups if you know the date to within a year or so, or if there's an index for your record.

- Bert

Indexacion: Aguascalientes

If there still is interest in the indexing project you can download

batch numbers help

I'm sure this may seem to be a silly question, but...Can someone please explain why an individual is listed three times on family search with the same film number on all three entries, but two different batch numbers.  Also, two of the entries have reference numbers, but they too, are different.  What exactly do the referernce numbers refer to?  I'm hoping the information/explanation can help tear down a brick wall in my research.
Thanks so much for your help.   Alice

historical maps

i just found a great site davidrumsey.com. it has a lot of great historical maps to look at or buy. i am researching velasco in aguascalientes and one of the maps at this site shows a town of velasco in aguascalientes in 1800's. has anyone heard of this town?

new member introduction

Hello.
My name is Angelina and as a new member I want to take this
opportunity to introduce myself. My interest in genealogy started when
my father passed away and I became painfully aware that I knew very
little of my family lineage. I was elated to find that this site
existed since the oral history that I have managed to collect all
seems to end in Jalisco in the mid to late 1800's. I am, most
definitely, an amateur and will need your assistance in my attempt to
find my lineage.

Here we go .... the surnames I'm interested in are: Chavez, Rodriguez,
Urzua, Moreno, Padilla, Munoz, Carrillo, Silva

Specifically, information on Norberto Chavez: born about 1870, since
his first child was born in Union de Guadalupe, Jalisco, I assume he
was born somewhere in Los Altos de Jalisco.

He married Basilia Rodriguez Urzua around 1892. They had a son, Blas
Chavez Rodriguez, born on Feb. 3, 1893 in Union de Guadalupe, Jalisco,
Mexico

Family lore has it that Norberto belonged to a rich family and that he
was disinherited when he married Basilia Rodriguez Urzua. - I would
appreciate any info on Basilia as well.

I'm also interested in:
Juan Moreno & Atanacia Padilla Munoz. They had a middle child, Aurelia
Moreno Padilla, born in 1901 in San Julian, Jalisco ? so I assume we
are looking for birth dates between 1870 & 1880 or a marriage around
1895 in the areas surrounding San Julian. They had several children, I
believe the oldest was also named Juan.

Antonio Santiago Silva Vargas? born around 1840's ? Tonila, Jalisco ?
he worked on the Carrillo Hacienda, near Tonila ? and had a daughter
named Statislaw (or Estanislao) Silva born between 1865-1870

Eufemio Carrillo ? born around 1860, his family owned a hacienda in or
around Tonila, Jalisco. He married a woman named Lucia between
1880-1890 - their children were Francisco, Aureliano, Jesus.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide.

----Espanol------

Hola.
Me dio much gusto encontrar este sitio

Tengo interes in los apellidos:
Chavez, Rodriguez, Urzua, Moreno, Padilla, Munoz, Carrillo, Silva

Juan Moreno & Atanacia Padilla Munoz. Nacidos entre los anos 1870 y
1880 en los alrededores de San Julian, Jalisco. Tuvieron varios hijos,

Jaliscan olives?

I hope my colleagues here at Nuestros Ranchos will overlook the fact that
this email is potentially about Jaliscan food rather than genealogy. I am
visiting my parents in So. CA, after the 4/30 conference in Rancho
Cucamonga. We were again bemoaning the loss of my maternal grandfather's
recipe (unwritten) to cure olives when my parents happened to mention for
the very first time that he had learned to cure olives from my paternal
grandfather, my Jaliscan grandfather. Now, this grandfather may have
learned it between here and Jalisco (he worked in the Yucatan and lived and
worked in Texas before arriving in CA about 1928. But if is an Jaliscan
recipe, I would love it if someone would share it. These olives were mild,
delicious green olives. I know the taste had something to do with the
proportion of lye, the type of cask, and the curing time, and that they
would be taste-tested daily after a certain amount of time. I've sampled a
variety of olives in Spain and they are nothing like my grandfathers'. Can
anyone help?

He probado una variedad
Alguien me
puede ayudar?

Entierros (Burials) Huejuquilla El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico Year 1719 - 1761

I was browsing through the microfilm of entierros de Huejuquilla, Jalisco, Mexico for the years 1719 - 1761. I found something interesting if any of you can help me decipher it.

This paragraph is from the entierros and it mentions starts out by talking about the Pueblo of San Diego De Huejuquilla year 1728. San Diego is not the pueblo. It is the name of the parish of the pueblo of Huejuquilla. Also it makes references to Mexico (Mexico in the year 1728), and also about provinces of Nayarit, Coahuila, Californias and Thexas (Texas) Del Consejo. Texas mentioned in the year 1728.

Here is another the cover of the book of entierros 1719 - 1761:

And another page of notes in the book that was near the first link mentioned above:

In our village of Huejuquilla, the original building of the Parish of San Diego still stands. The newer building was built in another location of the town.
