research for locations

Today I found a marriage record that reminded me how it takes more than one record to have accurate information abt locations especially if you take the info from what's online.

I know when I was working on family records from Tamazula Jalisco I found a batch online that said they were born in San Vicent, Carribean but in reality it was San Vicente, a barrio in Jalisco.

I just came across another place I'm hoping the group can help with. The marriage record reads:

marriage 7 Nov 1838 in Monte Escobedo
Jose Ysidro Minjares age 25 from El Rancho del Pino
parents: Visente Minjares and Tecla Sanches
spouse: Maria de Jesus Bermudes age17 from San Jose de la Trinidad Tobago Carribean
source: 1158237 Monte Escobedo marriage record

Has anyone else found the Carribean to be a correct place during this time period?

The other records associated with this family also say they are from Agua Zarca, some read Guanajuato and others Agua Zarca, Zacatecas. Are any of you familiar with which is correct?

thanks for the help to make my records accurate

Bartolome Alonso de los Hinojos

Does anyone have info on Bartolome Alonso de los Hinojos he was born ca. 1665 in Aguascalientes
or Lagos de Moreno. He married Juana Gallegos. Bartolome should be a grandson of Capitan
Pedro Alonso de los hinojos and Ana-Magdalena Dominguez; based on the time frame. I recently
found out a city in Spain is called LOS HINOJOS. So this might be the origin of whom ever XXXX name
Alonso was from LOS HINOJOS. And combined their last name as ALONSO DE LOS HINOJOS, a possibility.

Thanks,
Daniel

Juana Gallegos aka Juana Gutierrez aka Juana de Amador

While on the topic of the Gallegos family: I have this family, Bartolome Alonso de los Hinojos born ca. 1665 in Aguascalientes who married Juana Gallegos sometime ca. 1690. Juana Gallgos was from Santa Maria de los Lagos. She is sometimes seen as Juana Gallegos (her son ManuelAlonso de los Hinojos' marriage; my ancestor) then in the death of her son Francisco she lis listed as Juana de Amador, also in most of her children's baptism Amador is dominant. Then in her daughter Maria's death she is listed as Juana Gutierrez. All her kids were born in Lagos de Moreno. I know for a fact this is the same Juana! I have studied her kids. Bartolome is always listed as Bartolome Alonso de los Hinojos. I wonder if Juana is a relative of Gabriel Gallegos, she could be a daughter? I just dont know how she used many last names!
Juana Gutierez de Amador Juana Gutierrez Juana de Amador Juana Gallegos.

Daniel
Any help?

Family trees

Hi, I am still new to this great group! I would like to find out how to transfer my family trees from ancestry.com to my account with Nuestro Ranchos. Or does Nuestros Ranchos have a similar easy method to create family trees like ancestry.com? I hope I used the correct forum, if not, I apologize. Thank you.

Re. de la Torre family

I have been researching my family from Zacatecas. My great grandfather was Manuel de la Torre (1810) married Maria Altagracia Mejia(1815) on Jan. 1833, in Tepetongo. Their children Casimiro de la Torre(1844) and my grandfather Nicolas de la Torre (1846) married Mariana Sanchez(1850) married on April 1875. My grandmother Mariana 's parents were Cornelio Sanchez (1820) and Maria Refugio Ramirez(1822)
I cannot find Manuel de la Torre's parents. I have reached a roadblock. If anyone has info I would appreciate it.

Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society Conference

Our first Conference turned out to be a great success, thanks to Helyn
Sparkman's tireless efforts, as well as the cooperation of Alicia Carrillo,
Martin Perez, Kitty Cortez and the wonderful cast of speakers.

There were a number of people who were interested in attending, but for
various reasons were not able to. Many of those interested parties are from
the Los Angeles, CA area and have expressed an interest in having the next
conference there. We are more than willing to consider holding the 2011
Conference in the Los Angeles area, but to do so would require a resident of
that area to help us secure a location and help with the logistics. I want
to ask any of you living in the Los Angeles area if you would be willing to
undertake that responsibility? Please let me know ASAP because we'd like to
begin planning as early as possible. I would also like to get an idea of the
number of people interested in attending and/or being a Speaker. It will
most likely be held n April or May 2011.

motivo u otro no pudieron.
Tambien me gustaria saber a
cuantos de Ustedes les gustaria atender y/o ser oradores. Lo mas probable
es que el proximo año va a ser en Abril o Mayo de 2011.

MEXICO at the Smithsonian, summer 2010

Every summer the SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION sponsors the SMITHSONIAN FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL. They have done so every year since 1967. Every year they have had a different program. (You can see a list of past programs here: http://www.festival.si.edu/past_festivals/year.aspx )

The following is from the mission statement:
"The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is an international exposition of living cultural heritage annually produced outdoors on the National Mall of the United States in Washington, D.C., by the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.

The Festival takes place for two weeks every summer overlapping the Fourth of July holiday. It is an educational presentation that features community-based cultural exemplars. Free to the public, like other Smithsonian museums, each Festival typically draws more than one million visitors."

The festival takes place on the National Mall (between the Washington Monument and the Capitol) and this year the festival will take place June 24-28 and July 1-5, 2010. (The festival exhibits and entertainment are free.) General festival information can be found here:

http://www.festival.si.edu/index.aspx

For 14 years I volunteered for the Folklife Festival - always a lot of fun, but was not able to do so last year because of health issues (I hope I will be able to volunteer this summer - even if just for a few days).
This summer's program includes: 1) Smithsonian Inside Out; 2) Asian Pacific Americans; and 3) Mexico
Details of the MEXICO program (partly in celebration of the Revolution Centenary) can be found here:

http://www.festival.si.edu/2010/mexico.aspx

I hope you have the time to read about the festival and about some of the participants that will be coming from various parts of Mexico. If anyone plans to visit Washington DC this summer, try not to miss this.

Saldivar records in Jerez

Marge,

just wanted to let you know that incorrect connection to Jose Saldivar was to Andrea Rafaela Ortega and Jose Saldivar, parents of Valentin Saldivar (abt 1767) is a different Jose Saldivar.
I have corrected it and will add Juana Delfina Sanchez as her correct first wife, with Maria de la Lus Ortiz being the second wife.

I really appreciate your help in keeping the records correct.

Presentations from the Nueva Galicia conference this weekend

I wanted to thank Helyn, Maria, Kitty and everyone else who went to great lengths to organize what turned out to be a great conference and a great reunion of wonderful people and adept genealogists.

Having failed to have handouts for my presentation, I have posted them online on Nuestros Ranchos. Kitty Cortez's and Stanley Lucero's presentations are also in the same folder.

Thanks again to the organizers and it was a pleasure meeting all of the attendees and putting faces to so many names I had known only over the internet.

I recall reading in a genealogy book that Sor Juana de la Crus was a Descendent of one of the founders of los altos de jalisco. I did not write down the source nor did I follow up on this. My daughters class is going to study her life next week and I suddenly became curious as to her relationship to our ancestors. Has anyone any information on her genealogy and how she is related to the people from loos altos de Jalisco?

Help/Ayuda

SAludos a todos/ Hi to all:
Yo tambien necesito ayuda.

I ALSO NEED HELP. I AM UNABLE TO FIND ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON MY GRANDFATHER FROM MY PATERNAL FAMILY. MY GRANDFATHER'S NAME WAS PAULINO SEVILLA. MY GRANDMOTHER NAME WAS HEXIQUIA MORGUTIA. FROM MY GRANDMOTHE I BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN INFORMATION, BUT PAST MY GRANDFATHER NOTHING. I KNOW THAT HE PASSED AWAY IN 1955 IN SANTA CATARINA/ZACOALCO DE TORRES. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE NAME SANTA CATARINA CHANGED TO GENERAL ANDRES FIGUEROA. IF SOMEONE COULD HELP ME WITH THE ANCESTORS OF PAULINO SEVILLA I WOULD APPRECIATED VERY MUCH.

Muchas gracias.
