La Fabrica

Hi - I found some baptismal records of my great-great grandfather, and they
said he was from "La Fabrica" close to Guadalupe, Zacatecas, I think. Has
anyone heard of this? Is it a colonia or a rancho in Zacatecas?

Tlaxcalans

Arturo,

I finally was able to bring up that letter of 1591 from the Viceroy Luis de Velasco to the King, but it has eight pages. It is beautifully written and so legible after all those years, but I have trouble reading that Spanish. In which of the eight pages is the mention of his visit to the caravan of the Tlaxcalan families?

Thanks,

Emilie
Port Orchard, WA

My Tlaxcaltecos roots/surnames: Coahuila

Bermeo and Flores are the surnames that I have been able to trace to my
"Tlaxcalteco" roots. I have been able to go as far back to a marriage that
took place in Villa de Gegedo in 1762, where it states that the parents of
Thomas Bermeo and Juana Flores were originally from Nadadores and were
"indios tlacaltecos".

It appears that Thomas had a brother (Lucas) who was married to Maria
Andrea Flores - the brothers may have married sisters.

The parents of Thomas and Lucas Bermea were Gaspar Bermeo and Ma.
Candelaria de los Rios married about 1742 in Nadadores, Coahuila.

Because of what was mentioned in Thomas' marriage certificate, I am making
the assumption that "Rios" was also a surname used by my Tlaxcaltecan
roots.

I don't know if this helps anyone...but it just might help.

The other son, Lucas Bermeo who was married to married to Maria Andrea
Flores on Feb. 15,1768 in Villa de Gigedo

The mission settlement "Dulce Nombre de Jesús de Peyotes", later became as
Villa de Rosales and Villa de Gigedo, now known as Villa Union, Coahuila..

.

Their parents were Gaspar Bermeo and Ma. Candelaria de los Rios married
about 1742.

On the marriage record of Thomas Bermeo and Juana Flores it is mentioned
that They were "indios tlaxcaltecos" and their parents origin was
Nadadores,Coahuila, this is a small town close to Cuatro Cienegas.

What ever happened to the missing 1719-1733 baptismal records from Aguascalientes?

To: all members of Nuestros Ranchos

Te following excerpts are from a letter I sent to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT in August of 2008. It contains important information for those focusing their research in Aguascalientes. Since I didn't get a reply or noticed any corrective action taken, I decided to post it in this forum for the benefit of all members of Nuestros Ranchos.

"For several years I had been trying to find the baptismal record of my 4th great grandfather Vicente Ruiz de Esparza, but soon realized that it was missing. As a matter of fact, all the baptisms of “Españoles” from 1719-1733 from “Parroquia de la Asunción de Aguascalientes” seemed to be missing. I searched over and over for these records, carefully combing through a number of microfilms, to no avail. Finally, in desperation, I decided to take a trip to Aguascalientes in central Mexico (I live in Texas) to find out if the book had been lost or never filmed by the LDS."

"The original records are kept by the Catholic Church in a building adjacent to the Cathedral. Unfortunately, these records are not accessible to the public, as the Church is trying to preserve them for future generations. An exception was made in my case, considering that I had embarqued in such a long journey to look for a specific record. It took the librarian less than 30 minutes to locate the record, which he found in an “insert” with records for the 1781-1786 time period. The following paragraphs will explain what happened."

"Sometime during the late 19th or early 20th century the Catholic Church in Aguascalientes decided to organize hundreds of records by rebinding them with new hardcovers. The number on the original volumes, numbered sequentially #1 thru ?? was displayed on the spine of the new books. It is important to mention that in colonial times the records for descendants of Spaniards or “Españoles” were kept in separate books from those of “Indios, Negros, Mulatos, Mestizos, Castizos...etc.” Record Book #12 consisted of baptisms for “Españoles” for the years 1719-1733. This book was inadvertedly left out and later bound with books #39-43 which were for baptisms for the years 1781-1786. This book covers the periods 1781-1733 and 1719-1733 as shown on the enclosed pictures." (not included here)

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints’ crew that microfilmed these records in the 1970s must have realized that they were out of order because they kept them separate. The records for 1781-1786 are included in microfilm #299445. The baptisms for “Españoles” for 1719-1733 ended up in microfilm #299530, erroneously identified as being from La Cieneguilla. La Cieneguilla is a rural community and farming area some 20 miles SW of Aguascalientes."

"The baptismal records for 1719-1733 have been extracted and recently included in the new FamilySearch Pilot site, improperly identifying each record as being from La Cieneguilla instead of Aguascalientes. This is very confusing and should be corrected."

"I have found other errors that I plan to report separately, but do not include them in this letter to keep it simple. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me."

Mexican Imperial Almanac of 1866

I just found a great find through doing some google.com.mx searches this past weekend in relation to Imperial Orders of Mexico. It appears that there was an Almanaque Imperial produced during the reign of Maximiliano y Carlota. The one I found was from the year 1866, when Imperial control reached its full extent in Mexico.

There is a wealth of information, especially names to be found. Among them is military information that seems so hard for many of us to get to. For example, the comisarios imperiales are listed. The area we are looking into was divided between the Tercera Division, its capital being San Luis Potosi. The area, while including San Luis Potosi also included Fresnillo, which i'm guessing encompassed the northern half of Zacatecas. The rest of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Colima and Nayarit among other area's were under the Cuarta Division, its capital being Guadalajara.

Departamentos del Imperio are also listed. Breaking it down from the prefect of the region, to the subprefects of the various cities of those regions.

I also have a seperate list, but also overlaps in many places with the almanaque imperial, of those knighted during the Second Mexican Empire from these three states. I collected this list from a book I had just learned about called Genealogias de Familias Antiguas Mexicanos, published in 1908.

I intend to post up these in the files section. I didn't post a link as the almanac is scattered throughout google in pdf format, although I can post some links if anyone wants to look through that whole book. The Genealogias book, which is actually 3 seperate and large books, I looked through it in person at the special collections section at my university.

familias Pró de Zcatecas

Coahuila and Nuevo Leon Films

I have uploaded a large number of batch numbers for Coahuila and Nuevo Leon to the films database on Nuestros Ranchos. Given that many Nuestros Ranchos members have ancestry in those states, particularly those whose families ended up in Texas, I think these should be very useful to the membership.

If you have any films from those states on permanent loan, please go into the database and indicate so. I will try to get San Luis Potosi and some other northern states into the database in the near future as well.

ESPANOL

Researching Mexican military records

I wanted to thank the person who suggested that we email the following email (archivo@mail.sedena.gob.mx) for information about relatives who served in the Mexican military. I sent an email on July 31 and got a response back today that indicated they do have such information on my ancestor.

While my Spanish isn't that great, I think the letter says that it authorizes me to see the actual records in Mexico city, and take a digital photo of them, but not a photocopy because they are too delicate. Did anyone else get a response like this? While I'm excited about this new potential source of information because I thought the trail on my Pineda line had gone cold, I'm not really in a position to fly to Mexico city just to look at these documents. Any suggestions?

In case anyone else is interested, the person in question is named Pedro Pineda, my great-great grandfather in or near Tlaltenango, Zacatecas; he was born about 1851. I think the letter says he was a major in the Mexican military. Thanks!

Nicolas Macias&Josefa de Alvarado andThomas Macias-Maria Lopez de Lizalde

I remember reading an article from a fellow genealogist that found the documentation in utah when he studied the genealogical tables/history of the meNdoza family. Unfortunately he did not give specific details as to the source, just that it was in the library in utah.

Has anyone ever found the source for Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza's parents? I dont know how Jose Luis Vasquezcame to that conclusion, I dont disregard it but just wonder the source. I have studied the Mendoza family, undoubtfully one of the most important families in all of Nueva Galicia. I have Genealogias de Nochistlan (thanksto a good friend) and it says Inigo Lopez de Mendoza and Maria Laso de Mendoza were ambos de Nochistlan. So they actually did live in Nochistlan according to the book. Even don Mariano Gonzalez Leal is still puzzledat this line, we still cannot trace or connect our Mendoza to those of Spain with full documentation, probdue to the lack of records in the early years of the colony. Any comments?
-Daniel
