Esteban Nieto and Ana Rodriguez aka Diaz

The discussion regarding the Nieto Corona's got me looking at my Nieto line which originates in Valle de Armadillo, SLP with Esteban Nieto and Ana Rodriguez she is also listed as Ana Diaz. One of their sons Agustin Nieto married 3 times. First to Angela del Castillo on 2 July 1691 in Armadillo, second to Felipa de Cervantes 11 September 1703 and lastly to my 6th great grandmother Maria de Villalobos on 11 February 1714 in Aguascalientes. From this couple I descend from two of their sons, Francisco Javier and Jose Agustin. Francisco Javier married Eugenia Ruiz de Esparza on 27 April 1755 in Aguascalientes. Jose Agustin married Rosalia Ruiz de Esparza (sister of Eugenia) on 3 June 1753 in Aguascalientes. Both Eugenia and Rosalia are daughters of Jose Miguel Ruiz de Esparza and Josefa Manuela de Chavez. Does anyone have information on the parents of Esteban Nieto and his wife Ana Rodriguez?

Thanks

Hola primos y primas,

I have a question for those of you who are researching this line: are Pedro de Castañeda and Jacinta de Sotomayor, also known as Antonio Jimenez de Castañeda and Jacinta de las Ruelas?

On p63 of his "Cartas," Don Jaime Holcombe says in the early Pinos index, listed are Pedro Jimenez de Castañeda and Jacinta Martinez de Sotomayor. I’ve never seen him listed as “Jimenez,” nor her as “Martinez,” but this would logically establish her as a child of Andres Martin and Maria de Ruelas. He also points out how, on some records, he is called Antonio Jimenez, and then he mentions another couple in the appendix, “Antonio Jimenez de Castañeda y su esposa, Jacinta de las Ruelas.”

From dispensations, we know that Jacinta de las Ruelas, married to Antonio Jimenez de Castañeda, was daughter of Andres Martin Camacho and Maria de Ruelas; are she and Jacinta de Sotomayor one and the same person, and would anybody have any information to verify this?

I don't descend from this line, but she is a collateral ancestor, and reconciling the 2 Jacinta's would clarify some things in my lines - and basically, rock my world.

Thanks for any assistance!

Maria de Ulloa with Francisco Villasenor 23 Sep 1630 Dispensa

In this dispensa there are two contreras mentioned of which I am searching the parents of Nicolas Contreras 1640 of Teocaltiche who married luebana and elvira luisa delgado tiscareno but the records do not have his parents.

Nicolas aside, this dispensa has the parents of maria de ulloa as mariana de ulloa vdo de Pedro (can't read the shorthand) and Francisco Contreras circa 1579 (there is a record in Tlaxcala for a francisco contreras born). the parents of Francisco Villa (not sure it is villasenor or something else) married to Beatris de Contreras. The following is the Dispensa

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6XS4-KT

If someone with a much better eye can either confirm or correct the names that I think I read, I would be much appreciative. Oh and if you can include where they are from.

Mariana de Ulloa's familysearch ID is L2NH-VVF. There is a record of mariana and a pedro contreras married but it is in 1679 too late for this one, but it could be a mistake need to locate marriage record of 26 Augu 1679 to confirm it is correct date.

Thanks for the help, Simona

Research Digest, Vol 121, Issue 13

The word you are reading is "rasa" not "vasa." It is a term used in the
liempiza de sangre (purity of blood) documents where witnesses testify that
they know of no Jewish, Muslim or even Lutheran ancestry in the person's
family tree.

Danny thank you for the help and the interesting history of this couple! Not
sure if it is the same Thomas de la Puente, but he certainly fits the bill.
There is another one that is Tomas and Maria Ruis that are not them since
the children of Thomas and Maria Ruis are labelled Espl and there is another
record of tomas married to a sotomayor. I now have to find records of
marriages. As for this Dispensa that is not recorded in the marriage that I
could read 3 generations are given because they are 2nd cousins. I do have
them in my family as in-laws today, tomorrow they could be grandparents who
knows. Anyway, what was more interesting was the different testigos all
stating that the young couple did not know they were cousins but Esteban
Munos stated he overheard they were from his wife Xsabel Nieto. In the
beginning was the priest stating that they had been cleaned of their blood
"the limpiesa de sangre" de toda mala vasa de judios, Moros and they stated
this again and again. I had read it in books but not seen it written. Don't
know what Vasa means. Thanks again for your help here is the Dispensa. the
record ID for Ysabel de Carrion is 9QTN-HK8 ?

The following link is to a document I could not translate, but the little I could read is about beatris stating she is the legitimate wife of Juan de la Cruz and about the rancho he owned. I was curious to find this document in processo matrimoniales and didn't know what it was, still don't. I had been looking for the IM of Juan Rodriguez de Frias and Juana Lopez. It is about 10 pages can anyone help read it. I have rodriguez and amaya's in my line but have not linked them. Thanks!

Dear Friends and Primos:

Happy New Year. The beginning of the year is always a reminder that we can start fresh, with resolutions to make changes, improving our lives and surroundings. With that same intent, you will see changes in both the format and articles included in Somos Primos. To facilitate reading, I've included more 2 and 3 column layouts and have limited the length of the issue.

Most of us have a general understanding of US history; but, I've added a new category, Historic Tidbits. This section will include little known historic facts. These tidbits will serve as reminders, and will be easy to share with others. The Tidbits can fortify and reinforce your individual efforts to clarify our historic presence in the development
of the United States. We are too many to be invisible . . .
understanding our presence is needed.

A recent comment on the televised history program, stated Collective Learning is what makes humans different from other animals. Something to think about. The ability to share what we have learned scientifically has produced changes so quickly that for many of us, it is difficult to keep up. Through the power of the Internet, sharing is at a state, never before imaged. In the late 40s, I remember party-line telephones, now each individual can connect virtually with the world on a little hand-held phone; but, what are we sharing?

I am really grateful for Cuentos being shared by readers. I read about courage, compassion and strength of character that drives individuals. I read about the love that we have for one another, the admiration, and the pride in the accomplishments of family members, or even someone with the same surname.. It is the accumulation of all our personal stories which explain who we are.

Please share your stories. They don't have to be long, but rather focused on a special, treasured memory, funny, sad, crazy, happenstance, tradition. There is a reason that you remember it.

For February, Valentine Month, it would be wonderful to share stories about your Abuelitos y Abuelitas, Tios y Tias, or your sweetheart, your children's successes. Maybe there is someone in your life, not necessarily a family member, but someone who made a difference in your life. . . honor their memory. Share it, as if you were telling a story. Your memory of them matters.

Larry Garza adds a spiritual vision, with a dimension is difficult to
grasp: "I believe the Internet is one of the greatest Breakthroughs in the history of the human race. It will be an eternal record until there is an apocalypse of the human race. Once it's on the Internet it becomes an eternal record."

God bless, Mimi

FRANCISCO LOPEZ (DE LA CERDA) AND FRANCISCA DE LOS ANGELES BAPTISMAL RECORD FOR MIGUEL

Maria T.

i think it is the same couple. Miguel lopez de la Cerda married Maria
Magdalena Lozano in 1635 so he probably was born around 1611. I
think your Francisco Lopez and Francisca Ramirez de los Angeles is probably
the right parents of Miguel Lopez de la Cerda. Her using Ramirez is a good
clue. Miguel is on the Wikitree here if you want to see the information

FRANCISCO LOPEZ (DE LA CERDA) AND FRANCISCA DE LOS ANGELES BAPTISMAL RECORD FOR MIGUEL

I came across 1611 Guadalajara baptismal record for a Migel Lopez, son of Francisco Lopez and Francisca Ramirez De Los Angeles. Would this be the same couple as parents of Agustin Lopez de La Cerda and Miguel Lopez de la Cerda? Don't know if others have come across this record and would like opinions. I am aware that in Agustin's marriage record in 1634, Francisco and Francisca are listed as living in Zacatecas. Any thoughts?

Genealogia de la familia Mendoza Austria Moctezuma / AGN

Buenas tardes,

The following information on the children of Alonso Perez de Ortega may be posted elsewhere. If so, this will be old news. But since it clarifies several relationships, I want to share it just in case.

In the Municipal Archives of Leon, Guanajuato (see below) you can find an interesting case initiated by Hernando Galvan de Rojas against Alonso Perez de Ortega (the younger). Another related source can be found in the Morelia archives (Film 765586) re a 1655 lawsuit initiated by Lorenzo Ruiz Tostado in Zacatecas against the same Alonso the younger in Leon. These documents were key to unraveling some misinformation I had about the progeny of Alonso Perez de Ortega, el viejo.

Alonso Perez de Ortega, el viejo, had children from three relationships.

1. With Maria de Jerez, his first wife, he had Elvira (who married Lorenzo Ruiz Tostado), Alonso (b. 15 Jan 1617 and who I believe died young as I found no other mention of him), and Catalina (who married Pedro Yañez de Gamboa.) I am assuming Catalina was born of this marriage because on 8 Feb 1620 she and her father were godparents at a baptism. Maria de Jerez was the daughter of Rodrigo Muñoz.

2. With Luisa Vanegas de Figueroa, his second wife, he had Antonia (who entered the Convento de Jesus Maria in Mexico City), and Juana Perez de Ortega (who on 21 Apr 1653 married widower Hernando Galvan de Rojas, son of Alonso GDR and Juana de Salcedo), and other children unidentified. Luisa Vanegas de Figueroa was the daughter of Pedro Vanegas and Juana Bautista Cont/Conte.

3. With Maria Nuñez y Velez, whom he never married, he had Alonso Perez de Ortega the younger (who married Felipa de Anso) and Jacinta de Ortega (who married Francisco Macias Valadez). They were hijos naturales.

I descend from Hernando Galvan de Rojas and his first wife Antonia de Trujillo and it was in pursuit of his data that I came across the lawsuit mentioned above. It was dated 1661, but had been going on since 1653 shortly after he married Antonia. It involved her dowry and the fact that Alonso the younger had somehow taken over most of the estate of his deceased father.

Regards to all and I hope this helps someone.

Dear family, primos, and friends:
2016 is really starting out with a bang for Hispanic heritage activists.

Chicano Week, February 2-8: In 1985, Dr. Refugio Rochin, while at The Julian Samora Research Institute Michigan initiated a move for the state of Michigan to recognize February 2-8 as Chicano Week. He said during a telephone call that his goal was to promote more awareness of the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo February 2, 1848 as the point in time when Mexicans in the Southwest became Chicanos.

Thanks to the effort of Dr. Margarito Garcia, Rio Grande College, Texas, after years of lying dormant, Chicano Week has become relevant again.
On January 29, 2014, the State of Michigan House of Representatives passed Resolution No. 295 which declared February 2-8, 2014 once again, Chicano History Week in the State of Michigan.

Dr. Garcia, Rio Grande College, Texas has been advocating for all states, but in particular, all the states west of the Mississippi to also recognize Chicano Week. Let us hope that the movement grows because it will certainly clarify a history, whose lack of visibility has caused confusion concerning the Mexican presence in the Southwest.

For those interested in starting their family history research, Somos Primos in collaboration with Arturo Cuellar, on staff with FamilySearch.org and a LULAC member, is coordinating with his LULAC Council 44019 in Salt Lake, the Society of Hispanic Historical and Ancestral Research, and the Salt Lake Family History Library, to plan for a 3-day gathering, September 15-17, focused on support for Spanish heritage researcher. If you have always thought of searching your family history and have not, do plan on attending this event.

SPAR, The Spanish Presence in America's Roots is the name of the steering committee for a major effort to promote more awareness of the big gap in the history of the Spanish presence between 1500-1750. It is a 250 year Spanish presence which receives little coverage in US history, yet it was when our Spanish roots and blood were mingled and planted with our indigenous ancestors in the Americas.

During a recent conference call, committee member, Monica Smith, on the Tucson Presidio Board [whose ancestor Juan Manual Ortega served at the Tucson Presidio, 1790-1819] shared the fact that US currency which we all use daily is based on Spanish currency. Judge Edward Butler, SPAR co-chair with me, added that the United States first currency was Spanish currency.

So much to learn about our place in history . . . but together we can do it.
May the Lord Bless us in the effort . . . Mimi

Book Nueva Galicia

Hello,

Does anyone have the following book?
I have been trying to find the following book. I know that the author was himself selling the book, I was in the process of buying it but I lost contact with the author. If anyone has the book, please look if any information appears for PRIETO GALLARDO. Thank you

Year 1692 "Provincia Texas De Nueva Espana (Mexico)

I found this 3 page document which mentions "La Provincia de Texas of Nueva Espana (Mexico)." Year 1692.

That is the earliest I have seen the existence of Texas as a Province of Nueva Espana (Mexico) being mentioned. Supposeldy, Texas would be under the political jurisdiccion of "Real Audencia Government of Guadalajara, Jalisco (Nuevo Galicia), Mexico (Nueva Espana) and also under the Catholic Religious Order of the Bishop of Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico.
