Dear Members,
I have found additional information on the Guzmán family in Compostela Nayarit, who are tied to the Guzmán family in Tecolotlán, Autlán and Ejutla.

As far as we have been able to prove (mostly thanks to Enrique Agraz’s finds), Juan de Guzmán (ca. 1651-ca.1700), was the son of Miguel de Guzmán. There is a dispensa for Francisco Gonzalez Lozano seeking to marry Josepha de Velasco y Guzmán that proves this, as well as a the ordination papers of Gabriel de Araiza-Medina y Guzmán, grandson of Juan de Guzmán. Both were found by my colleague Enrique Agraz. The ordination papers also give the name of Juan’s mother, Ana Fernández de la Cueva. However we have yet to find the father of Miguel, let alone the original immigrant from Spain.

Once we found out Compostela was important I started searching through the records there. I did indeed find a Miguel de Guzmán, whose daughter Inés de Guzmán died in 1672. If it is the same Miguel, then Inés is sister to Juan de Guzmán. Here is record:

But there are a lot of other people with the Guzmán last name in Compostela as well. The one I find most interesting is a man named Álvaro Sánchez de Guzmán. So far, there are two areas of Mexico where I have found a man by that name: Autlán, Jalisco and Compostela, Nayarit. The first was married to Francisca Corona, see http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/21967?page=1 Whether or not they are the same person, I do not know, though by dates it is certainly possible.
Speaking the Alvaro from Compostela, he was widowed in 1638 when his wife Francisca de Colio died. It may be that she is the mother of Miguel de Guzmán, but I have no evidence as of yet besides chronology. Francisca’s death record is here:

I am fairly convinced that Álvaro remarried, and am pretty sure that Álvaro’s first last name of “Sánchez” is a patronymic, meaning Álvaro Sánchez de Guzmán’s children would be named Guzmán, and not Sánchez. Proof of this is in his death record from 1670 which I found a few days ago where his son an heir’s last name is Perez de Guzmán, not Sánchez de Guzmán. Again, I can’t prove it, but I do think the Alvaro married to Francisca de Colio was the same one above who died in 1670 and left Juana de Tovar a widow.
Then in 1699 there is a Sebastián de Guzmán (probably Álvaro’s son and heir)and his wife María de la Cueva, who baptized a son (creatively) named Álvaro on 7 Jul 1699. This furthers the link, the child was likely named for his paternal grandfather.

Six months later there is a Diego Dávalos y Ulibarri and Teresa de Gusman baptizing their daughter Maria Teressa on 14 Mar 1700. This is extremely interesting because D. Diego is the brother of the 1st Count of Miravalle, Alonso de Avalos (or Davalos)

I have therefore found the following interesting pattern in this family:
1) They have a preference for naming their sons Álvaro and Sebastián
2) They intermarry with the de la Cueva family

Francisca Solana Duron? She uses a bunch of different names like Francisca
Duron, Solana Duron, Francisca Solana Duron, francisca Xaviera Duron and
Francisca Xaviera Colmenero. she got married to Phelipe Martin who
sometimes also uses Phelipe Martinez.

There daughter Maria Theodora Martinez who also sometimes uses Maria
Theodora Esparza maried Salvador Macias Valadez in 1746 in El Sagrario,
Aguascalientes, so Phelipe Martin and Francisca Solana Duron/Colmenero
probly married close to 1726. Please let me know if someone in the Nuestros
Ranchos Forum knows about Francisca Solana Duron/Colmenero or Phelip Martin.

My 7th GG Great Grandmother is "Maria De La Candelaria Angon (1655 - 1735). She was the wife of my 7th GG Great Father Antonio Madera (1660 - 1709?) where they resided in Minillas of Mezquitic, Jalisco, Mexico.

But in 1685 in a rancho that was of Joan De Angon 1632 then handed down to Esteban Angon which became an Estancia Rio Chico. There was a Cofradia De La Purisma Concepcion there in that rancho/estancia and it is located near Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico.

By 1685 there she is listed as "Teniente De Arenal"

I had done some research on the styles of clothing and I would imagine her to look similar to how the muskateers dressed with the large hats. Sombrerte, Zacatecas, Mexico was said to been named from Damas with large hats.

The link above is for a Pedro rodriguez de ???? married to Maria Gonzales de Rubalcava. Can someone make out what it is? I found parents of a pedro rodriguez and the mother is Maria Lucia don't know it is his parents.

I'm wondering if there is anyone in the forum that has any information on Nicolas Ponce, also known as, Nicolas Simon Rodriguez Ponce and his wife Antonia Jimenez. I'm estimating their births between 1685 - 1695. One record identifies them as being vecinos de La Huerta de los Rodriguez. Their son is also listed as a vecino de La Huerta de los Rodriguez in Aguascalientes. Nicolas Ponce and Antonia Jimenez are the parents of my 7th great grandfather Juan de Dios Rodriguez Ponce that married Gertrudis de la Torre in 1759:

Busco la defunción de mi abuela Crecencia Romo Rodríguez. Ella nació 23 de abril l885 in Aguascalientes, hija de Luz Romo Olmos y Maria del Refugio Rodríguez Romo Crecencia murió in Aguascalientes cuando mi mama era una niña chica. Por fotos que tengo de mi mama cuando vivía con su madrastra y padre he buscado la defunción en los libros de 1915, 1916 y 1917. Fui a los Archivos de Aguascalientes, me mandaron a la oficina que tiene los Archivos antiguos. Los libros no tenían índice y como no se que año murió no pude localizarla. De allí me dijeron que en el panteón tendrían la fecha que murió. Fui al panteón de los Ángeles y me dijeron que se les había n perdido toda información antes de 1929. Encontré a una prima por lado de mi abuela Crecencia y me dijo que mi mama vivió unos anos con su tía hermana de su mama. Con esta información he buscado el acta de defunción en los libros de 1913 y 1914. I have hit a solid brick wall Necesito sugerencias en donde mas puedo buscar esta información. Como no conocí a mi abuela maternal o mi abuela paternal quisiera tener una poca de información sobre ellas.

In the marriage of Jose Rosalino Gutierrez and Maria Francisca Diaz in Jalostitlan on June 8, 1804, does it say that he was married before to a Juana Micaela Basquez and that she had died in 1801 and was buried in San Miguel Ayuda? Was he from Maravilla and Francisca from Jalostitlan? I think it lists her parents who are both deceased, but I don't think I see his parents listed.

I am trying to help a friend with her family tree. She is descended from Tomas Vital and Ygnacia Gutierrez of Jalisco.

Tomas is the son of Ramon Vital that is some records is listed as Ramon Ybarra y Vital, and sometimes Vital-Ybarra, or Ybarra Alias Vital. Where did Vital change from Ybarra? These people settled in Arandas, Degollado, San Miguel el Alto, San Diego de Alejandria.

Estoy investigando a un soldado devenido en minero del Real de Minas de San Gregorio de Mazapil, Juan (o Joanes) de Minchaca (o Menchaca), quien fue compañero de Francisco Cano allá por 1568/1569. Por un documento en el Archivo General de Indias sabemos que Juan de Menchaca murió allá por 1594/1595 y dejó testamento.

¿Sabe alguno de Uds. el contacto del cronista de Mazapil y si hay algún repositorio de Testamentos de esa época, que correspondan a esta zona de Zacatecas, en alguna ciudad como Guadalajara ó Zacatecas?

Hello All,

I came across something of curiosity with my paternal grandfather's birth information. While the majority of his family was born in the Fresnillo, Zacatecas area, he was born in Cuidad de Durango in 1908.

Until recently, I have been using church baptism certs to document my family history, but more recently, I have been also searching for civil birth and marriage registrations. My grandfather, traditionally, has had the birthday of December 2nd. That is what he celebrated when he was alive and what the church baptism cert states. However, when I located his civil birth registration, recently, it states his birthday is December 25th (Christmas)...which is quite a difference in days.

According to his civil registration, he was born four days before the registration (registration was Dec. 29th) AND the document also CLEARLY shows in the title his birthday of December 25th.

His baptism information shows he was baptised on January 6th and he was born on "2 de Dbre". I have closely looked at the image and it does not have a lightly written "5"...it was intended to be Dec. 2nd.

So, here is my question, has anyone run into sitautions where the church and civil record reflect something like this? More specifically, has anyone seen a birthday on Christmas intentionally changed to something else on a Church baptism cert?

Thoughts and input is welcomed.....

Alonso Martín Bermejo came from Spain (Martín is a given name) and married
c.1617 to Isabel López de Gardea aka Isabel Pérez, aka Isabel González. Her
parents, that go in the Tree's next column, were Martín Pérez de Gardea and
Mariana González de Ruvalcaba y López de Fuenllana. Mariana's parents, for
the column after that (there isn't one), were Alonso de Ruvalcaba and
Beatriz López de Fuenllana. Etc., you know the rest.

Back to Alonso the Spaniard and Isabel. They settled in Aguascalientes,
where he was an "Alcalde Ordinario." She died there 23 September 1638. Will
only mention Juan de la Cruz Bermejo's two sisters that married:

- Olalla de la Cruz, born c.1620, married in ibid. 26 November 1638 to
Captain Juan Ruiz de Escamilla.

Capitán de guerra. También conocido como Diego Flores de la Torre. Nació en
1539 ó 1540 en la ciudad de Guadalajara, Nueva Galicia, como hijo legítimo
del conquistador Hernando Flores y de María Àlvarez de la Torre, hija
legítima del Lic. Diego Pérez de la Torre y de Doña Catalina Mejía. Sus
medios hermanos eran, por haberse casado su padre en un segundo matrimonio
con Doña Isabel de Alvarado, hija del conquistador Gómez de Alvarado: Don
Gómez de Alvarado, beneficiado en la villa de la Purificación en 1594, el
futuro capitán Don Hernando Flores y Alvarado, Jorge de Alvarado, Don Juan
Flores de Alvarado, Don Pedro de Alvarado y Don Luis Gómez de Alvarado.

Hasta los 8 ó 9 años de edad vivía en casa de sus padres en Guadalajara,
aprendiendo a leer y a escribir. Después lo llevaron al colegio de los Niños
de San Juan de Beltrán, en la ciudad de México, por dos años. A los 10 ú 11
años, sus padres lo regresaron a Guadalajara y cuando cumplió 15 años lo
casaron con Doña Àngela de Velasco, natural de la ciudad de México. Pasó su
vida entre la ciudad de Guadalajara -donde fue confirmado por el obispo
Ayala- y Juchipila, donde tenía su casa de morada y su familia. Heredó de su
padre la encomienda de Juchipila. En 1569, esta encomienda contaba con 600
indios.

Estimados compañeros,

Aquí les tengo otro tema de discusión. Se trata de uno de los apellidos más alteños que puede haber: González de Hermosillo. Aunque es una familia que ha sido ampliamente investigada por todo genealogista alteño, necesito ayuda en una rama en particular proveniente de Teocaltiche. Como muchos ya saben, Teocaltiche carece de archivos elementales a finales del siglo XVII y los principios del XVIII. Esta falta de registros bautismales y matrimoniales dificulta la investigación de la línea siguiente.

El día lunes, 5 de junio de 1752, en la Parroquia San Agustín, Ayo el Chico, Jalisco, contrajeron matrimonio Juan Joseph González de Hermosillo y María de la Candelaria Hernández Gamiño. El acta de matrimonio literalmente dice lo siguiente:

"Don Juan Joseph González de Hermosillo español de Teocaltiche, y vecino del Carrizal con Doña María Hernández española de dicho puesto del Carrizal. ----- En el año del Señor de mil setecientos cinquenta y dos, en cinco días del mes de Junio, yo Fray Antonio Silva de licentia parrochi haviendo precedido todas las diligencias matrimoniales, y leídose tres moniciones en tres Días festivos inter missarum solemnia no haviendo de ellas resultado impedimento alguno, casé y velé en facie ecclesie por palabras de presente a Don Juan Joseph González de Hermosillo, español de Teocaltiche, y vecino del Carrizal, hijo legítimo de Don Juan Antonio González de Hermosillo y de Doña Gertrudis Gómez Rendón, con María Hernández, española de esta jurisdicción en el Carrizal, hija legítima de Don Juan Hernández y de Nicolasa Vázquez Zermeño: fueron padrinos Don Juan Manuel Ascencio de León y Doña María Anna Ascencio de León, Testigos Cayetano de Estrada y Ambrosio de Estrada. Lo firmé . . . Fray Antonio Silva (rúbrica)."

Como pueden ver, don Juan Joseph González de Hermosillo fue hijo de Juan Antonio González de Hermosillo y de Gertrudis Gómez Rendón. A base de la única fe de bautizo que he podido localizar para un hijo de ellos, en 1725, calculo que se casaron en 1724. Y usando una fórmula común, calculo que Juan Joseph González de Hermosillo nació entre 1695 y 1705, y que su mujer Gertrudis Gómez Rendón nació entre 1700 y 1710, fechas más o menos conservadoras.

1. Antonio Gerbasio González de Hermosillo, fue bautizado el 24 de junio de 1725 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco. Se casó con María Rosa Marín de Peñalosa, el 10 De junio de 1750 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco.
2. María Antonia del Carmen González de Hermosillo. Nació hacia Nació hacia 1727 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco. Se casó con Nicolás Romo de Vivar, nacido hacia 1712 en Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes. Se casaron el 23 de febrero de 1748 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco.
3. Juan Joseph González de Hermosillo, nació hacia 1729 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco. Vivió en El Carrizal, Ayo el Chico, Jalisco. Falleció entre diciembre de 1780 y octubre de 1796 en Ayo el Chico, Jalisco. Se casó con María de la Candelaria Hernández Gamiño, hija de Juan Hernández Gamiño y Casillas y de Nicolasa Efigenia Vásquez de Lara, nacida el 24 de enero de 1731 en El Carrizal, Ayo el Chico, Jalisco. Se casaron el 14 May 1753 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco. Falleció antes de noviembre de 1783 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco. 5. Lorenzo Antonio González de Hermosillo, fue bautizado el 17 de abril de 1733 en Teocaltiche, Jalisco. Se casó con María Lugarda Macías Valadéz, hija de Francisco Xavier Macías Valadéz y de Antonia Jiménez de Castro, bautizada el primero de julio de 1742 en San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco. Se casaron el 20 de mayo de 1765 en Jalostotitlán, Jalisco.

Investigar en Teocaltiche resulta dificultoso a veces, y por eso no he tenido mucha suerte con esta rama. ¿Hay alguien en el grupo que sepa la identidad de los padres de Juan Antonio González de Hermosillo y de Gertrudis Gómez Rendón? ¿Existe alguien que tenga bien investigado Teocaltiche durante estas fechas?

Yo tengo muchísimas teorías, pero antes de exponerlas quisiera saber si hay alguien que tenga mejores ideas o pistas que me pudieran ayudar. A buena hora expondré lo que yo opino, pero por el momento dejaré que mentes más sabias que la mía me aconsejen primero.

Hello,

I have two Maria Alvares Tostado ancestor's in my family tree. One is Nava and she was married to Joseph Perez Gallo, but I'm looking for the parents of the other Maria married to Juan Delgadillo. Attached is her 1737 Teocaltiche death record and she is also named in her daughter's Petrona Delgadillo's marriage record which states Petrona was born in Nochistlan. I found children records of a Maria NAVA married to a Juan Delgadillo that fit this time line in Nochistlan, but I don't know for sure if this second Maria is also Nava.

If anyone could help me find the parents of Maria Alvares Tostado who died in 1737; I would appreciate it. I'm searching page by page, but so far I haven't found her birth or marriage records. She may be Lorenzo's sister, but I just don't know at this point.

Margarito Torres of La Blanca Zacatecas was my great grandfather. I found his death registration but I'm having a hard time reading it. I think this document contains other information that will help me trace back my ancestry further. I have attached the death registration and was wondering if any of you can help me read what it says. I thought his parents were Cristoval Torres and Teresa Morales, but I think this document says that they are his grandparents. Is that correct?
