Patty,

* Marriage
* Catholic Church
* Civil

https://familysearch.org/catalog-search

azules the dicen "Registros parroquiales ..."

I contacted Family Search re this issue and this was their response:

"Thank you for contacting FamilySearch about the blurred and pix-elated pages.
FamilySearch recently loaded a new image viewer and this may be causing this issue if you are on an older browser. The new image viewer works best with Chrome 21/22, Internet Explorer (IE) 9 or Firefox 15 or higher. In case your computer cannot run IE9, you may wish to try Chrome and in case you do not currently have the Chrome browser on your computer we have included the link for download below".

I am using Firefox 17.0.1. I would like to suggest anyone in the group having this problem should contact Family Search, and perhaps they will attempt to correct it.

http://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/i/san-cayetano-21/

Localidades/"Ranchitos" en Tlajomulco:
http://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/jalisco/tlajomulco-de-zuniga/

http://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/i/el-fraile-9/

Saludos,

Correas from Atolinga ZAC early 1800's

My great great Grandfathers were born around the
1810’s , their names were Juan Correa and Maria Reyes
Diaz, they had 4 kids Francisco(priest), Ysidora,
Francisca , Maria Gertrudis and J. Guadalupe Correa

I am also searching Correa/Correas from Atolinga and Tlaltenango, Zacatecas. Perhaps we will find a common ancestor if you are able to get 1 or 2 more generations further back.

I did come across these children of Juan Correa and Maria Reyes
Diaz:
1. MICAELA CORREA DIAS
Gender: Female Christening: 12 MAY 1830 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico

2. M. BONIFACIA CORREA DIAS
Gender: Female Christening: 17 MAY 1830 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico

3. MARIA HILARIA CORREA DIAS

4. JE. VICENTE CORREA DIAZ
Gender: Male Christening: 07 APR 1834 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico

5. MA. JUANA LADISLAO CORREA DIAZ

6. FRANCO. CORREA DIAZ
Gender: Male Christening: 29 DEC 1837 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico

Gender: Male Christening: 19 DEC 1839 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico

8. MARIA FRANCISCA DE PAULA CORREA DIAS
Gender: Female Christening: 04 APR 1842 Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico

I also came across this marriage record during this same time period:
JUAN CORREA

Marriages:
Spouse: MARIA DE LOS RELLES GARCIA
Marriage: 02 MAR 1829 Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico

Perhaps, the GARCIA is a mistake or her surname is DIAZ GARCIA... or some other explanation...

Good luck on your search,

Thank you for your help. There might be a
posibility of 2 marriages Correa-Dias at about the
same time, for there are two kids 1 or 2 months apart.

We will be in touch pariente.

Juan Carlos:

I don't know if you have yet looked in the IGI on familysearch.org but they have all of the Atolinga and most Tlaltenango films indexed there and there are some entries that look to be your ancestors:

JUAN CORREA
Marriages:
Spouse: MARIA DE LOS RELLES GARCIA
Marriage: 02 MAR 1829 Tlaltenango De Sanchez Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico

FRANCO. CORREA DIAZ
Christening: 29 DEC 1837 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico
Parents:
Father: JUAN CORREA
Mother: MA. DE LOS REYES DIAZ

MICAELA CORREA DIAS
Christening: 12 MAY 1830 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico
Parents:
Father: JUAN CORREA
Mother: M. DE LOS REYES DIAS

JOSE GUADALUPE CORREA DIAS
Christening: 19 DEC 1839 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico
Parents:
Father: JUAN CORREA
Mother: MA. DE LOS REYES DIAS

JUAN JOSEF. ANASTACIO CORREA GONZALES
Christening: 19 AUG 1804 Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico
Parents:
Father: RAFAEL CORREA
Mother: MARIA ROSALIA GONZALES

You should get a good genealogy program like PAF and start entering all of these data so that you can keep them organized and run reports. It would be nice to see your genealogy in a register format. It seems you have a pretty good start on your research.

You should also order the Tlaltenango film where your gg-grandparents' marriage is listed. It should list their parents and then you will know whether this Juan Josef Anastacio is the same Juan as your gg-grandfather.

Comentario

Thank you very much for this help. I am sending
you a genealogy tree that my granfather on my mom's
side built back in the 1960. It looks like there might
not be that accurate. It is a start.

Is it OK to ever consider crossed out information as legit?

A while ago, I found out that my ggg-father Francisco Bonal is listed as "hijo de padres no conocidos"(parents unknown) in both his marriage certificate and matrimonial information.

Hi Steve,

I'd like to give an opinion based on how I've tried to compile my tree. I have come to some opinions of who and what should be on my tree by godparents and assuming things from the records I read. Ultimately, I decided not to build my tree on conjectures, because I want it to out live me, and I would like to pass something along that is as accurate as I can possibly make it. It's a question, I think, you have to ask yourself. How accurate do you want your tree to be?

I have seen what you have described with your 3X gr grandfather in the records I'm looking through for Tepetongo in Zacatecas. Not that unusual, but often the children were left at the doorsteps of the people who they've taken their surnames from. It may be because the birth mother decided to leave her child at the real father's door step or perhaps the birth mother knew this family was well off enough to take care of the child, can't say for sure. In Tepetongo, their was a Gertrudis del Muro, who had a couple of children left at her doorstep. Later, I found she was a benefactor of the church and town. Probably why children were left at her door.

Also, "criada" could mean she worked as a servant in the home.

Thanks,
Barbara

Book on research?

I've been reading some of the emails/postings regarding a book that has information on family names (research). What book is/are they referring to?

Hi Ann,

There are several books that have some family trees in them. I currently have one on loan from the library "Genealogía de Nochistlán antiguo reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII según sus archivos parroquiales" this written by Jose Luiz Vazques y Rodrigues de Frias it contains a history of the families of Nochistlan. I own a booked named "Archivos parroquiales de Aguascalientes, Siglo SVII. It also has a number of parrish records. APdeAg (short for the title) is loaded with records but I haven't had a chance to read the book. Since it doesn't have an name index it is much more difficult to find the names as I would have to go page by page to find them. I'm not sure what books you are referring to. I you would like a name looked up in Genealogia de Nochistlan......I would be glad to look it up.

Hi Juanita,  If you would please...look up the name of Jose Manuel Gutierrez
(1764) and see if you find anything on him.  In your book on Aguascalientes,
please see if you find the birth records and dates of my father-in-law, Lino
Gutierrez, b.23 Sept 1900 but I don't know where. His parents Pedro Gutierrez
and Anastacia de Anda.  Pedro Gutierrez was from Coral de Piedra, Jalisco.  I
looked in Arandas, Jalostitlan where they thought he was born...I think his
family was guessing.  I will appreciate any help you can give me in finding more
info/clues to my ancestors.  Thank you.

Hi Victor:

When you signed up with Facebook did you take the time to read the fine print and all of the "Service agreement"?  If you did not, I suggest you go back and read it.  They get rights to ownership of anything and everything you send in, post, and share by using their website...They have thousands of people in third world countries mining the data that comes across Facebook and building databases on individuals.  It is estimated that over 25% of companies contemplating  prospective employees are consulting these databases to get an insight on individuals before they get hired.

If you are going to suggest to other people to join "Facebook" remind them to make sure they read and understand the "Service agreement" before they sign up.  You are opening and giving up your privacy to them when you sign up.

Hi Rosalind, Thank you so much for your offer. Unfortunately, I am a descendant of Valdez, Berumen,Carlos and de la Torre, on my maternal grandfather side, which is my main line of research at this time. They all are from the Jerez, Tepetongo area in Zacatecas as far back as I've gone so far, which is the mid to late 1700's.

Thanks again for your help , good luck with your research.

Hi Erlinda,

I only have a tree on Ancestry right now. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to put my Valdes branch on rootsweb.com. As soon as I can figure it out I'd like to do that. Many, many hours of research that I know may help someone else.

Thank you for the link to your Rootsweb link.

NARANJO, COVARRUBIAS, FRANCO

My husband's ancestors, surnames Naranjo, Covarrubias, Franco were from San Gabriel, Jal. Sometime between 1914 & 1930 they moved to La Cienega/El Limon, Jal.

Several of us have ancestors with these names and they were into the area of Tecolotlan, Ayutla, Autlan, and Ejutla and many other area since the early 1600's.

What may have happened is that they moved to San Gabriel from these other areas and were returning to be near family. Historically those dates coincide with the Post-Revolution and then the Guerra de Cristeros in the 1930's. Feel free to make contact for any help.

There are a lot of baptisms that are missing from the records and therefore
some will never be found. I have some ancestors for whom the baptisms are
missing. The baptism of Jose Manuel Gutierrez de Mendoza y Santos Bustos
can't be found and it is the reason he isn't mentioned in Retoños de España
Tomo V Volumen I capitulo Gutiérrez de Mendoza página 87. The father of
Jose Manuel, Juan José Gutiérrez de Mendoza Hurtado de Mendoza, was born in
Lagos de Moreno. The mother of Jose Manuel, María de San Juan Santos Bustos
y Hernández Gamiño, was baptized in Ayo El Chico on 24 Mar 1738, where she
was married on 20 Feb 1754. The wife of Jose Manuel was María Magdalena
Martín del Campo y Jiménez de Castro the daughter of Juan Cayetano de la
Santísima Trinidad Martín del Campo and María de la Asunción Jiménez de
Castro y Galvan de Rojas. Camacho is not one of her surnames. Camacho
Riquelme is the maternal surname of the great-grandfather of Jose Manuel.

The only places you will be able to find reported ages, when the baptisms
are missing, is from records of Información Matrimonial and Dispensas.

Pazuulo Definition

Yes, I was reviewing burial records, so you are right that it must mean infant. I've seen the word spelled a couple of different ways.

The only correct way to spell it is parvula/parvulo. The Real Academia
Española is the authority on the Spanish language.

spelling is parbulo/parbula.

Pazuulo - What Is It?

Hello Researchers,

I keep encountering the word "Pazuulo" and "Pazuula" after names, such as "Maria, India Pazuula." Does anybody know what this means?

Need help with surname

Hi everyone,

Hello Juanita,

Re your side note it only states that they are "Ciudedanos de esta vila", doesn't give the name but the front of this book says "San Miguel en Mexquitic", probably the villa they are referring to. Also on the "Padrinos" he is Juan Esteban Quiros and his muger....

You have a similar problem that I am dealing with. My search is stopped at my 4X great grandfather Jose Maria Valdes. Which is the most common of names, as is your Jose Maria Hernandes. I'm sure, like me, you have found many almost identical records that seem to match all the names except for dates that don't make sense. All I can tell you in that regard is it happens a lot in my research because of the common names I'm working with and that it's is not too unusual. I have spent many hours correcting my tree due to these similarities.

Also, I'm not sure why you assume that the name Marmeto is a misspelling they do have some Marmeto's in family search.

Good Luck,
Barbara

Barbara,

Thank you. I'm learning more each day in how to research properly and effectively. I assumed the name mareto was misspelled because I thought the other records for sillia hernandes was the one I was looking for which then meant the name was misspelled. Lol, I too have spend hours correcting my family tree. I too am stuck on the last Jose Maria Valdez. In the last record that I found I encountered my first wife with seemily no last name. I read that many times during those years the indios didn't have last names. I was exhuasted looking at that line so, I've moved on with the intention of going back later. Thank you for your support. I really appreciate it.

In order to determine if Marmeto is a rare Spanish surname I looked went to http://www.linajes.net/ and searched for it. It does not show up at that site so I did a search for the surname in familysearch.org without specifying a country. It shows up a lot in the Philippines. Then I specified Mexico where Marmeto shows up a few times. This surname most likely made it's way into Mexico from the Philippines.

In the second link it is Jose Marcelo and not Jose Marceto. Look closely at all of the letters l and t in the document. They are written differently. The l has a small line like a tail. The t has a a line going all the way through and much longer.

Thank you Armando,

I've only been seriously researching my family history for a few months and sometimes I find it quite daunting. I begin to question what I believe is a correct extraction and then the someone to tell me I'm on the right track.

Those tricky letters are sometimes frustrating and I start to doubt that what I deduced to be the spelling must be mispelled. And then there is those almost but not quite data that makes me crazy. Lol, but you guys are great and very helpful. I love seeing how your thought process goes to get the result. It is extremely helpfu. Thank you so much.

Los Senores de Zacatecas by Frederique Langue can be purchased through the Fondo de Cultura Economica online bookstore, which is listed in the Links section, under specialty bookstores.

You can also get the Miguel Caldera book there in Spanish as well as the "Breve Historia" series of books that have been published for each state, e.g. Breve Historia de Zacatecas, Breve Historia de Jalisco, etc.

Linda,

I just printed it after it finished downloading as a pdf. I didn't try to save it; it will print from the file if you click on the little icon that looks like a tiny picture of a printer. It took a long time to download, since I have only a really slow dial-up, but it printed out quickly after that.

I just found an entry while searching the early Durango records for a Lazaro Ortiz de San Pedro marrying a Maria de Chaide and Lazaro identifies his parents as Lazaro Ortiz de San Pedro and Maria Esquivel of Zacatecas.

I am hoping somebody out there familiar with the early Tlaltenango records can help me learn more about Lazaro Ortiz de San Pedro or Maria Esquivel. I'm guessing this would place the birth of Lazaro (the elder one) at around 1570-80. I saw some postings from several years ago and it appeared Arturo Ramos was very knowledgeable about the early families. Also, has anybody figured out why Ortiz has "de San Pedro" attached? Was there a place known as San Pedro in Spain?

Thank you.

I must have missed the previous announcement on NR on the movie, "For Greater Glory". I think that a well-made film's objective, whether historical, fictional, non-fictional or whatever, will usually stimulate the individual to seek more knowledge on the subject. Most films, in the space of 1-2 hours cannot tell the whole story on any subject and everything on tv or big screen should always be questioned on their facts. The important thing is that it does open you up to questions and to seek answers. Since I tend to be a visual person, I am so thankful to have anything on film that relates to my family and where they came from - it tends to make it more real for me! We are just so blessed these days have so many sources available to aide us in our search. Isn't this what we are doing on our ancestry search? We hear these fascinating stories from our family and friends and then it peaks our interest to know more, to know the truth, and it sends us on this quest for documented facts on our ancestors.

Happy hunting!

The movie is also called Cristiada. The production of the movie was
reported in a thread at http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/18836 There
is an interesting post at
http://www.cristiadafilm.com/blog/2010/05/31/we-did-it/ that says "Pues a
personifica…." by Ileana Gorostieta.

I do wish movies would attempt to be closer to to the truth. It's also
unfortunate they didn't have more Mexicans in the cast since the movie is
about Mexico. At least they made a movie about our region. An uncle of mine
used to like to recount the history the war. He was fiercely Catholic. One
of his sons told me that he had seen bullets holes in the Parroquia of
Lagos de Moreno from the Cristero war. One of the last stands in Lagos took
place at the Mesa Redonda formerly known as the Mesa de los Villalobos.

Andy Garcia's statement that people didn't like to talk about it isn't
necessarily true. There was a film made in 1946 called Sucedio en Jalisco
about the Cristeros that can be seen on Youtube. Also on Youtube is a 5
part documentary called Guerra Cristera The song "El martes Me Fusilan by
Vicente Fernández" is about a Cristero.

Hi all:

I already saw the movie a pair of weeks ago since I live in Mexico. I think it's a good movie but I do agree that there are a lot of discrepancies between the movie and the real story.

First of all, I didn't like that the sound is in English with Spanish subtitles, I know it was done with the purpose of having a greater audience in foreign countries and in general I prefer the original sound of American movies but at this first point I don't feel really connected with the environment of the picture, Mexican farmers speaking English at that time in Mexico is not credible. English speakers should do an effort by hearing the movie in Spanish and reading English subtitles.

Secondly, one of the facts I'm very sure that had a great diference from the real life was the scene where the priest José María Robles is hung and killed in the church. The real story that was passed by my family and is found in the Vatican archive during the process of canonization is that when the situation turned worse in Tecolotlán, my great-great-great grandmother Doña Adelaida de la Brambila viuda de Agraz took the risk of hiding the priest inside her house and they celebrated several clandestine masses in there. One of the family servants told the authorities the fact. The soldiers went there and they kidnapped San José María in Adelaida's house not in the church and hung him in the Sierra de Quila not inside the church, also the temple of San Agustín de Tecolotlán didn't suffer the destruction seen in the picture. Adelaida had to scape to Guadalajara with two of my great-great uncles to a house she had next to the "Casa de los Perros" (now a museum in Guadalajara) because the soldiers told her that only because she was a member of a distinguished family in the town they would give her the chance to scape within the next 24 hours, if she hadn't that privilege she could have been killed.

The cast is great specially because Eva Longoria is my far relative, we share two lines the Longoria and the Villarreal line. All actors are well-known and it will atract more people to see the movie.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Movie "For Greater Glory"

For us history buffs...(and also those of us who like Andy Garcia movies).....

Actor Andy Garcia joined Fox & Friends a few days ago to talk about his new movie, ‘For Greater Glory.’ In the film, he plays a general who gets recruited by the Cristero Army to help the Mexican citizens fight for religious freedom.

It’s based on true events that took place in the 1920s where 90,000 people died fighting over the course of three years.

Film opens in theaters on June 1st (already showing in Mexico).

Your report should include your Y-DNA and/or mtDNA Haplogroup.
For simple interpretation, google "haplogroup" and the one you belong (do separate searches for YDNA and mtDNA) and go to the Wikipedia result you get from the search.
Also you can find matches from your Familytreedna personal page of by sharing your results in one of their groups.

You can upload his results to ysearch.org then you can post his ysearch userid.

Did he join a project? Like Gary Felix's Mexico DNA project? If so which surname?
