informacion sobre Pankurst, Lopez, Gutierrez

Sylvia Corona:

Muchas gracias.

Saludos a todos.

Searching for Obituaries?

Does anyone have a good source for old newspaper Obituaries? I am looking for an obituary that would have been posted about six years ago.

Also, has anyone ever used this service:
http://oa.newsbank.com/oa-search/we/Archives/

The site charges per obituary and I wanted to find out if it was worth it before purchasing. Also, wanted to make sure the site was reputable.

Celts, Visigoths and Greeks in Spain

You mean the Visigoths coming to Spain during the middle ages, right?

The Celts, according to this article (and others I have read) had settled
in Spain even prior to the Romans who came around 200 B.C.

What I found fascinating was the Greek settlement of Spain!

Sanchez Perales in Guanajuato

>
> Christina,

I think Maureen's suggestion is a good one. In addition to the border
crossing records I would try the 1930 Mexican census. The images are
available online at: labs.familysearch.org

With any luck you might find his parents were still living in the area as
well as his siblings or other relatives. The city of Guanajuato has 364
pages of census records. You do have to register, but there is no charge.

Spanish Armada Hurtado Mendoza

I am hoping I can once again request from this group some information. You have all been so helpful in the past. This is in honor of St. Paddy's day....the Spanish/Irish connection.

I spend my genealogical time between the Irish (mine) and the Spanish (my husband's) I constantly tease him that sooner or later I will find that we are related. We have some similar traits and sometimes that is good, but other times it causes conflicts. Anyway, I am descended from the O'Neill family in Northern Ireland on my maternal side. My great grandfather's name was Hugh O'Neill and my grandmother used to tell us tales of the great Hugh O'Neill. We always thought it was ...you know....just fairy tales. Well, although somewhat embellished, some of her stories are in rare historical books. Anyway, out of curiousity, I started researching the Spanish Armada. Hugh O'Neill (not my great grandfather, but the famous one) was linked to this. Then I found out that many ships from the Armada were wrecked along the Northern Ireland coast. A couple quite close to my paternal ancestor, Owen Gallagher's home of Rosbeg, Donegal Ireland. Some accounts say that most of the soldiers in the ships drowned or were killed by the Irish or interrogated and hung by the English. Other accounts say that some Irish people hid some of the survivors and they eventually made it back to Spain. (I have another link to send with an interesting description of the Irish by one of the survivors, will send later)

Anyway, I am getting long winded here, but I came across a google book mentioning a familiar last name for this group.... Hurtado Mendoza (see page 107 on the link below) Hope this link works, if not let me know and I will give you a phrase from the book that will allow you to search.

http://books.google.com/images/cleardot.gif

Thought you Mendoza fans might like this.

Now for my question, does anyone know if the Spanish kept records of names their survivors and how they survived to come back to Spain? Where might I get my hands on some information on this subject?

PARES and Spanish Armada

Out of curiosity I went to the Archivos de Simanca and typed in 'armada'. I received a response asking for a more detailed/specific request. Remember there was more than one armada sent against England. The survivor you mention is named Cuellar. He was one of the senior officers of the operation. You could query his name. Include the date with the word 'armada'. I have never researched the Simanca archives. It really isn't one of my interests. Good luck....

Saludos,

Ricardo Rodríguez Camarena

I updated my files - DE LEON, CARLOS, BANUELOS, FLORES, VILLANEDA, & many others

In the last few weeks, I accumulated a lot of new ancestors for my parents ELIAS DE LEON and MARIA CARLOS.

Thanks to you, my Family Tree has reached 12 generations in many of my ancestral branches! There are over 1,200 individuals and almost 400 surnames!

I also added some other ancestor names in the hope of finding a cousin here.

In particular, since I have no known living descendant DE LEON cousin, I would like to find that individual for a big hug and kiss!

Reynoso/Conrique mutual linkageswith Hurtado de Mendoza lines, and others ..

Daniel,

I'll be glad to share! After all, sharing and consulting with each other
are central reasons for our participating in this forum.

At this time, I'am in the middle of restructuring/re-entering the data that
I have into one revised database (including sources for all entries); but,
with a few days, I should give you a specific response.

Reynoso/Conrique mutual linkages with Hurtado de Mendoza lines, and others ...

Ronnie,

My research notes confirm the 6 marriage entries in your message, today.

Also, as you stated, the convoluted relationships that resulted from the
marriages of siblings in one family marrying siblings in another family and
then, descendants of those marriages (third-, second- and sometimes
first-cousins) inter-marrying again (which commonly happened among the
founding Spanish families in Los Altos) can be sometimes difficult to
define. I can keep them starlight using a couple of comprehensive
genealogy software programs that do it for me. I use Legacy Family Tree
from Millennia, in conjunction with PAF from Family Search.org

What software program(s) do you use?

As to my linkages to Toribio Hernandez the Arellano (and the Hurtado de
Mendoza line):
They derive primarily (with some multiplicities here and elsewhere as noted
above) from Sebastian Ramirez de Mendoza (born about 1608) marrying Maria
Hermosillo about 1633, in Jalostotitlan.

Sebastian was the son of Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza and Gonzalo Ramirez de
Arellano, who married about 1607 in Jalostotitlan.

Isabel was the daughter of Rodrigo de Olivares and Maria Hurtado de
Mendoza. They married about 1588 in Lagos de Moreno.

Maria was the daughter of Toribio Hernandez de Arellano and Isabel Hurtado
de Mendoza (shown repeatedly on the records as Isabel Velasco).

Isabel and Toribio also had 2 other daughters:
Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza, who married Alvaro Ornelas in Lagos de Moreno on
October 29, 1586; - - - and Marta de Mendoza, who married Juan Sanchez de
Lara on January 6, 1587.

Sebastian (above) was the Great Grandfather of Dona Maria Juana Inez
Maldonado Lozano (born 2 March 1727 in San Juan de los Lagos) who married
Don Francisco Conrique, my 6G Grandfather.

So, as you say, somos primos, ....and I look forward to hearing from you
again !

Isabel Hurtado de Mendoza

I don't think this ISabel and Isabel Velasco de Mendoza are the same person. Because The velasco one was married to Luis Carillo. Isabel Velasco would have been born ca. 1565, our Isabel should have been born ca. 1535-40 at least. Francisco, Marqés of Almacan was born ca. 1530 so these two are not the same people. I think were better off with Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, who settled in Los Altos.

New Member Annoucment-Dennis Duke Romo

Thank you for welcoming me to this wonderful group of genealogists, and want to thank personally David Mitchell and his wife Irma Romo Mitchell for recommending me. This is my 11th year of research into the state of Jalisco specifically into Encarcion De Diaz, Aguascalientes and Caqistle from which my Romo (De Vivar) lineage comes from, so my goal is to link my roots from Mexico to Spain.

In my quest I was fortunate to find a friend ( possibly family) in the Mitchell's as we believe that through the Romo journey to California is where my ggreat grandfather possibly and one of the Mitchell's ancestor re related. I am thankful that the Mitchell's/Romo's In Pomona have invited me to meet with them at share our family's history next Saturday.

Once again thank you all for the privilege to Join.

Respectfully

Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Duke Romo

Lagos

Well, this is definitely good to know. I didn't know all of this before,
the origins of these two names, San Juan de los Lagos and Lagos de Moreno.
So, that means, my ancestors are definitely from Lagos de Moreno, before
they were in Guadalajara. And, before that? Well, that will take some more
searching.

Thank-you, everyone! Gracias, Gracias!

Hey who wants to work with me to contact the folks that are organizing this conference? I'd love to contact them and ask that they record the audio of the presentations so that those in other parts of the world that have interest in the content can also appreciate the good information. If you want to help me translate a request I'd be willing to do the rest.

Which Lagos?

Sometimes, in my research, when it says where a person is from, it will just
say "Lagos." Do they mean San Juan de los Lagos, or Lagos de Moreno? I am
trying to figure out which direction to head for my ancestral research and
don't know which way to go.
